New golf cart rules, you need insurance if not using disney carts!

On a further note about Kenny and his rentals due to this new policy means that anybody renting now needs to bring the cart in themselves so they can check the insurance policy and issue a new sticker. In the past if they happened to have someone returning a cart the same day you were picking one up they would have the person ending their rental drop the cart at/near your site w the keys. Now with the sticker having an end date means they can't do that any more.

Good point, @Jimsig.

Only one time did I get a KennyKart that was already at the Fort (it had 'slumbered' in someone's campsite for a night or two till I got there). But I've done the off-site meet-and-greet a couple times with no issues and if that's required, that should be fine. No KK rental should have been assumed that the cart would already be at the Fort. (That's convenient but not expected).

Ed

PS - IIRC I've gotten a KK 3 times usually when I had my parents at WDW at the same time as our family. I'm more of a bike rider and walker at this point still. But Kenny is a warrior to hang in there and flex with the changes.

So how would the KK work if you were staying in the cabins and don't have your pickup or MH to hitch the trailer & cart to?

We're anticipating that our next trip will be sans TT and we'll be driving our Prius. I hadn't considered a KK due to the insurance thing & figured I'd just have to rent a Disney Cart, but now Kenny's is back on my radar.

In the past, and I'm sure someone will be along shortly to confirm, you would meet Kenny in an offsite location. Back several years ago when we rented from him, it was the CVS or Winn-Dixie parking lot near Disney Springs. He would let you drive his truck and trailer back to the Fort where you would unload the cart, then return the truck/trailer back to him. After your stay, you would do that "song and dance" all over again.

Also, I have had the opportunity in the past to retrieve one of his carts that was parked in a strategic location for my rental. And on the flip side, he has asked me (completely at my discretion) when bringing back my cart to him, to pick up another cart while I was at it...

He rewarded me one year with a free week rental for being flexible and helping him out... But alas, those were sort of the good 'ole days...

Thanks for the info @Duane . Our trip is a few years out, but I like to start my planning early. Like the day after we get home from our most recent trip lol.

Disney planning can really brighten your day!

Not a problem! And I completely understand what you are saying about the planning... To me, its the "thrill of the hunt" working through and piecing together that make for a great vacation, and hopefully a great time for others to enjoy!

Kenny doesn’t list prices on his site. We won’t have a hitch (rental car, renting a camper) trying to figure out if it would be “worth it” or just use Disney’s cart

Kenny was close to half the price of the Fort. Not sure with the new insurance requirement. If you don't have a vehicle that will tow a small trailer, you just use his truck. The whole thing takes 20-30 minutes. That is worth it to me over a 10-14 day rental.

I have used him many times. Included with your cart rental is your ability to use his vehicle and trailer to bring in the cart. As long as you are the person driving it onto the property and unloading it in the overflow area Disney has not had a problem. It's the vendors who bring it right on themselves and do their transactions on Disney property that was causing problems. I'm using him again in September and everything is as it was in the past. I will meet him at whatever location he has chosen, in my vehicle, And then I will leave mine there and drive his truck and trailer to property and back. When it's time to return it I will drive out get his truck and trailer and do it all in reverse. It's a very simple process. He is much cheaper than doing it in the park. I think maybe it's 25 a day roughly cheaper. The price I have is like 360 including tax and everything and I pick it up on a Tuesday and return it the following Wednesday. So I pay for 8 days they don't charge you for the drop off day but you have to do it in the morning. Hope this helps

That Kenny price is excellent!

So I assume that after it's unloaded the cart gets driven over to Outpost to show proof of insurance and it then gets 'tagged' under the new procedure?

That I don't know the answer to yet. I believe someone earlier posted their experience with the new procedure and they did it when you come in and put the sticker on it when you first drive on to property. You're not telling them when you pull in that it's somebody else's cart you're renting. You just say you're dropping off your cart for your reservation

Any new updates on how this new policy is playing out? We arrive Saturday with our own personal golf cart. Insurance has been purchased and printed out for confirmation.

Let us know how it works out for you. I'm planning on trailering my cart over for the DISmeet in October and parking in the overflow.

From what I have read (and what hasn't been screamed about), it is going fairly uneventfully.

You show proof of insurance, sign the waiver and get a sticker.

Since there hasn't been a lot mentioned on here or social media, I think it has been going ok.
