New general public discount

I just got off the phone with a CM and was told that the Easter break time frame is blacked out for the new discounts. :sad1: Still waiting...

Thanks, still waiting here too.

Just got a bit excited when the special offers page listed the dates to include Easter break for some deluxe hotels.

We had the 4/3 deal last year, if nothing comes up I guess it's off site for us.

I see some of you are booking with an AP rate, and others are using the general public code. Is there a difference?

The general public code is 30% off values, 35% off moderates, 40% off deluxes, and 45% off villas, whereas the Annual Pass discounts are 40% off values and moderates and 45% off deluxes and villas. Plus Annual Pass holders can add the Dining Plan to this offer without having to buy one day park passes.

What is AP?

Ahhh...thank you! With all the numbers flying around, I missed that extra % off!

OK this will be our first trip and now it looks like we'll be going early summer instead of December as first discussed.

Historically, how long before these discounted rooms start to fill up if you want a particular resort? My husband wants to wait until next week to book, will that be a problem? I don't want to miss these rates!!!

Also, am I correct that this discount is availabe as long as the start of the vacation is by 6/3, even if you stay longer? That's how it looks to me but I am not sure. Kids are out of school last week of May so we could go and arrive by 5/28.

Thank you and this is great!

Enjoy your first trip  ! I started crunching numbers, our trip is 2/25 - 3/6) until I saw that the general room only discount is for 1 to 4 nights. However, can someone please correct me if I am wrong? I think the gift card might be a better deal.

I think this is a much better deal than the gc, I am sure someone will post the specifics but it was about the same or cheaper for the Contemporary w/dining w/ this deal than to book w/o dining and take the gift card, and we all know 750 would not cover as much food for a week for a family of 4 than the dining plan. So I see this as much better.

The discount is greater for 5 or more nights 30/35/40.

Depends on the numbers - for me the 40% off was a better deal, but a friend who there the same time as me, at another resort, felt the gift card was the better deal, good thing is there hopefully will be a deal for those people without pins.

I booked 5/30 - 6/6 at Beach Club and it looked like the room rates went back to full price for 6/4 and 6/5. I'll take whatever I can get though - every little bit helps!

Ya, I didn't mention that I was staying at CBR - so the room only discount is better than the gift card for those staying at a deluxe resort. It might be a wash for me since I am staying at CBR..... Since it is for your entire stay I might have to keep crunching numbers :)! To find out what is best for my family of 4!

If you are staying for 5 nights and need tickets, I think the GC is the way to go. Here are my numbers:

5 nights at POR (Need tickets so I'm not including that)
Rack rate: 2 nights at 185 and 3 nights at 170 for total of 880.
Getting 500 GC.

In my mind I am just taking 100 off each night since I'm staying for 5 nights and that brings the room down to 85 for two nights and 70 for 3 nights.

Will be checking into the Dolphin for 4 more nights with the teacher discount after that. Am getting 9 day tickets from POR that I will just carry over to the Dolphin so I get the lower price per day dealie on the tickets.

I think if people would go with the GC and then do a split stay with the 35% off code they will be doing well. I would have stayed at the Contemporary instead of the Dolphin but since the discount ends on 6/3, I was looking at paying 350 per night for two nights. No thank you.

Teacher, your numbers make sense. So do you not do dining? How much more do you think you will spend for food? Just needing advice since this is my first trip. We are a family of 4, my sons are light eaters. I also have the option of the Dolphin since I work for state gov't. I wish we could go earlier but my son missed a lot of school this year due to swine flu and as it is I am pushing it, they will miss last 2 days of school and I need to run the #'s on that as well to make sure I don't end up failing him if we do this, lol!!:scared1:

We don't do dining. We are a family of 5 with teens 17, 15, and 14. However, I have never seen the sense in paying that much for the dining plan. Some people say it saves them money, but not how our family eats. I average 100 a day for food. For breakfast we do eat yogurt & muffin/donut/granola bar in the room because we are rope drop people. We do not buy soft drinks at lunch or dinner and we don't have dessert at every meal like you would get with the DDP. We don't drink soda at those meals at home so we don't do it out. We will order water. We will have pizza one night, maybe two. If my son had his choice we'd eat it every day! We have two to three table service meals that balance financially the cheaper pizza nights. Typically counter service averages around 50 per lunch/dinner so that is where I get the 100 per day. Pizza for one or two nights drops that by about 30 that goes into the table service amount since it is obviously higher. We do get the coffee drinks as a treat in MK and of course our beloved Mickey Bars. Our children prefer to do it this way rather than having a lot of TS because we are there to play, not eat. We will be using our GC to pay OOP for our dining, so to me it is like free dining My Way.

Glad you agreed with my math. My DH doesn't understand Disney Math!

Wow, just to make sure, you average 100 a day for the 5 of you? Is that possible? If you can w/ 3 teens, I would think I def can w/ two skinny elementary boys who often share kids' meals since they eat so little. I have to force them to eat! But that makes me want to consider dropping the dining if that is what you are saying. I like to eat but I don't like the scheduling all those din reservations that would come w/ the reg. dining plan, I was already mulling just doing the TS dining plan instead and just doing a couple of TS during the week and paying out of pocket. Since I have boys, I told my husband we are in luck since they could care less about dining w/ Cinderella :cool1: .

Also, can anyone say how long before they think the resorts will start maxing out the discounted rooms w/ this new discount? Am I safe waiting a week or two? We prob will go w/ POR FQ or Contemporary. Still trying to decide.

So very excited!!! :yay: We had ressies for the Poly CL...booked them several months ago. Went online this morning and saw the great offer. Just saved $1800 with the new 40% off code. We were able to keep the same reservation number....super easy!!! It's always good to save a few bucks!

kimgg - just another voice from someone with 3 older kids (pre-teen/teen) who does not use the dining plan and stays close to $100/day. Kids meals will sometimes be enough for my kids, and one or two table service over a 5 day trip is plenty for us.

Some folks use the TS dining as a needed break from a long day in the parks. We're fine with the food courts at our hotel or the counter service restaurants in the park.

Last trip (this past June) we ordered about $50 from Garden Grocer prior to our arrival. Had yogurts, granola bars, soda, OJ delivered to our room on arrival. That took care of some mornings or the PM munchies.

I think with two young kids, you can certainly do it for less than $100/day. You've got to know your dining style and consider your tastes. Check out allears.net for menus at
the counter service locations and play around with the numbers.

Is this new room discount just for 1-4 days? What is the room discount if you stay longer? Thanks and alittle confused. Been crunching numbers for the best deal for our trip in may.

No the discount goes up if you stay 5 nights 5% more. So it pays to stay longer.
