New free dining offer yeaaah

I tend to believe the dates are probably wrong. Sun-Sat just doesn't make sense. You'd have tons of people trying to adjust their reservation by 1 day. You'd end up giving this big discount to tons of Thanksgiving Week guests.

With that in mind, IF (BIG IF) the dates were to follow last year's patterns, then I believe that the 22nd would be the last check-in date to get free dining.

(Most Christmas guests would be checking in on the 23rd or 24th)

I am SOOO praying that you are right! We check in on the 23rd but it would be simple to change our dates to the 22nd. Not so easy to change to the 17th BUT... we'll do it for free dining because the cost that we are paying for dining on our current reservations is almost equal to the cost of 6 extra days. To stay 6 extra days is $100 more than our current reservations if we take advantage of free dining!

I have been waiting on this information, and hope to go Dec 17th

We will be there Dec 17th too staying at Wilderness Lodge.

Wow just realized I reached 2,800 posts. Only took me 12 years, I really am bashful.

That would be awesome if it worked out that way. Fingers crossed. I've already book airfare so there is no changing it.

In 2008, 2009 and 2010, they allowed FD check ins until about December 21/22, thereby giving guests the ability to apply a FD discount to their entire stay, up to 14 nights, over the Chrirstmas/New Year's time frame, which is the single most busy and expensive week of the entire year at WDW. So, it's possible and not surprising that Thanksgiving guests might be able to do the same thing this year.

Certainly not denying it's possible. And the current FD offer does run from a Sun to a Sat, but it's a 6 week offer.
When you are doing one week at a time, with blackout weeks in between, Sun-Sat defeats the purpose of the blackouts somewhat.

We will see tomorrow, 1 way or another.

It would seem that Sun/Sat defeats the reason for blackouts. Why blackout Pop Warner or Jersey Week, etc and make it easy for people to have the discount over Thanksgiving or Christmas?

I know it's just wishful thinking on my part, because the traditional dates would work far better for me.

I planned my trip using a pin, but reserved dates that went along with past FD. I had a airfare voucher I had to use, so I bought my flights. It will still be cheaper to pay the airline fee and change my dates, but I would rather keep my existing ressies and just add the code.

:wizard: :wizard: :wizard: For alternative dates....:wizard: :wizard: :wizard:

This is my thinking as well. I hope for it to be Friday-Thursday dates instead. Then I wouldn't have to change my checkin date on Dec. 10 to a room only. We'll see either way tomorrow.

Here's a question:

Last Friday, my niece and her family booked a room at the BC as soon as she saw this rumor and made her check-in date 10/23 in hopes that they could then switch to FD, once this gets officially announced. Last Thursday night and Friday morning there were plenty of rooms available to book at the BC for the last week in October, as of Saturday (and still now), there are no longer any rooms available there. Does this mean, this hotel could now be excluded from FD since it is showing a solid booking?

Does anyone know if this could happen?

Does anyone know if this could happen?
No, not really. No one knows what Disney's internal guidelines are for how many rooms or room categories they will offer under a discount. For all we know they have already blocked off a number of rooms there for free dining rooms. I don't think anyone can be sure about this point, unless you have management access to the Disney reservations system.

So the only way we knew FD was coming in the past was Visa card holder discount came first?

It just doesn't seem right that we would have no information about the offer. I remember how the Dis usually has a heads up post in the scrolling headlines on the home page.

Did this happen with the August offer?

Unfortunately, yes. :headache:

A girl can dream though. :thumbsup2

Thanks for the response and thanks for sharing your intell.

We are traveling with 2 other groups, so I am just trying to make sure we have all options sorted out by tomorrow.

And, yes. I is always ok to dream!

Thanks again.

Also...why wouldn't Disney give the TAs a heads up? Wouldn't you want to have more staff on hand during the initial days of a FD offer?

Thanks....she's gambling and now freaking out...I tried telling her not to change the existing reservation she previously had based on a rumor but she didn't listen. Now she'll have to wait and see (like everyone else), if her gamble paid off.
