Tonight, May 19, as we were riding past the closed Hollywood Studios at a little before 9:30, there was a fireworks show going on at the studios. This featured some fireworks I've seen before, high flying shaped explosions like are seen behind the castle in Wishes, and also some new fireworks I've never seen before like corkscrew fireworks and colored corksrecews. I only saw about 30 seconds worth of the show since we were riding past in a bus, but it was definitely something different going on. Has anyone heard anything about a new fireworks show for the studios?

Could be... but I think after-hours private parties at DHS can get their own fireworks show so it could be that as well.

Haven't heard anything, but maybe someone else has.

I had that thought too, and I did think that a 7:00 PM closing tonight seemed odd (the park has been closing late all week); I also wondered if there is an unannounced special fireworks show for tomorrow for Star Wars Weekends (seems odd that it wouldn't be announced).

Seen some postings online that there was a special Star Tours opening by invitation and the fireworks could have been a part of this party.

I'm 1000% sure this was a private function...

If you stay in the EPCOT or Magic Kingdom areas for a week or so and watch closely - you'll see at least one fireworks sequence going off somewhere that won't match the park hours...

Mad revenue for private parties...where that revenue goes?..beats me

My guess is for shrubs at Disneyland Shanghai

This is 100% correct. That is why there were fireworks.

Yup...it was a special invitation pre-opening event for the opening of Star Tours. A number of the blogs/podcasters were there. They got to ride with the characters, etc.

Well that explains that. Too bad they aren't adding a fireworks show for non-Fantasmic nights; no permanent nightime show adds to the myth of this being a half-day park IMHO.

Well they kind of do.

When F! was cut back they tried to call the grand finale show of American Idol their "End of Day Show".

Wow. I hadn't heard that. Let's see: You could watch Wishes... Illuminations... or complete strangers at a karaoke party.

Talk about lame!

Many years ago, pre-Fantasmic! (and pre-Sorcerer's Hat), there was a fireworks show at the Studio over the Great Movie Ride called Sorcery in the Sky narrated by Vincent Price.
