And I just want to say this about this thread - I've really seen a lot of negative threads on ALL the boards here at the DIS - "What's the WORST, and HOW BAD IS bla-bla-bla", and just folks being mean to one another.

This thread is ALWAYS full of such happy people! I look forward to "stopping in" whenever I'm on the DIS.

Thanks to all!

What a nice thing to say! :)

I try to be as helpful as I can. I know when I was looking for information someone was always around to give me good tips and advice.

I like returning the favor! :wizard:

I agree, too! This has been a very pleasant thread to read! I can't wait to get back to the Dolphin next month!! 34 more days! Yippee!

I've never used the laundry room at the Dolphin, maybe someone else can help out with your question.

we didn't use the laundry this past trip (October '06) but have used them in the past. I think they were fine - IIRC, things didn't take an unusually long time to dry. I would stop at the laundry room on the way to the pool and put the clothes in to wash, and at the end of the cycle, I'd go back and put the clothes in the dryer. I'd stop and get the clean clothes on our way back up to the room. It worked well for us.

Thanks, Souper!

How nice of you to say. I was one of the long time posters here (have been a lurker only recently) and felt the same way. That is how the Swan/Dolphin Sigma Delta sorority thread spun off from this thread. :thumbsup2

:thumbsup2 :woohoo:
Thanks, Souper!

Thanks for the compliment - some of us have been posting on this thread and its predecessors for quite a few years. Truly have met some of the nicest people ever on here. I can't really think of a time when we have experienced any nastiness. Boy, have I learned a lot about the Swan/Dolphin too. Heading there in less than a week. Caroline:yay:

I'm sure that this has been asked many times before, but I'm hoping that one of the many friendly S&D experts can help me out with a couple of questions.

1. Will the Swan officially book a standard or balcony room to a party of 5? (There will be three children and two adults.)

2. If we do book said room on points, what is the cost for the roll-away bed?

3. If this room is booked on points, what would the cash cost be to upgrade to a guaranteed balcony?

TIA for any help!:)

1. no. You can sleep 5 at the Dolphin, though! :)

2. I have no idea.

3. depending on your SPG status (and depending how busy the resort is), you could be comped a balcony.

Hello everyone. :) I just booked the Swan for a long weekend in October. (Columbus Day weekend) It will be just my husband and I. We'll be down there for business on that Friday and then stay until Monday for some R&R and the F&WF. :beach:

My DH liked the idea of S&D because it seems a little more grown up. Does that make any sense? LOL. None of the restaurants there on the DDP, correct? (This is a good thing IMO if it's true.) Skimming through the last few pages, I notice someone said something about AAA discounts at the restaurants. Does anyone have details on that?

TIA. :)

Yes! That DOES make sense! :goodvibes We loved the Dolphin because we were in Disney, but we didn't feel like we were 'choking" on the fact. (if THAT makes sense?! lol) I think it's the "best of both worlds" - Disney at your fingertips, but a lovely, upscale hotel experience, also. We're returning next month because we loved it so much!

Have fun in October! :cool1:

PS: Love your "Bichon"! We have a shih tzu!:goodvibes

Thanks Singingmom. :) We are really looking forward to this trip.

We have two Bichons. Double your terror! ;)

well, now, you have to see our shih tzu Mocha and his people, complete with matching Mickey sweaters.... (my husband is a VERY good sport! ;) )

You know Barb, I had forgotten about the AAA discounts too. I know there are some folks here who know which S/D restaurants honor AAA. Since we'll be there this week, I look forward to their answers too. Caroline

Thanks for the help, Madge. :) I wound up calling SPG and was told that a guaranteed balcony was 11,000 points vs a standard at 10,000. I also forgot about the 5th night free promo. That will come in handy!

Hopefully for the last time. Anyway, we will now get to the Swan a little after noontime, instead of late afternoon.

How is the Swan as far as early check-in?

And if your rooms aren't ready, are you able to store your bags like at other Disney resorts? That would be fine with us, we'll be starving at that point and will probably head over to Epcot for lunch.

Thanks (again!)

Should be all the restaurants, eating places, other than the three 'signature' restaurants, Shula's, Blue Zoo, and the one that replaced Palio.

Early checkin is fine, they will take your bags.

Im staying at the Dolphin again in Sept WooHoo!! i LOVE the dolphin!

Anyway we booked an AP rate and have been upgraded to a lakeview room. We have now been emailed to say that we have been further upgraded to a courtyard view room? I cant finf any info on their website for a courtyard view? Anyone know what it is?

It's really only 1000 points more for a balcony? If I wanted to try to change my ressie should I call SPG or can they do it on the website? Is it worth it? I have only stayed in a Dolphin standard room, no balcony.

We've always loved having a balcony! I have my morning coffee out there while DH reads the newspaper. In the evening it's a nice way to de-stress.

If you don't think you'll have any time to enjoy the balcony, then just skip it. We really take advantage of the balcony when we get one though!
