New early morning breakfast at Boma and AKL animal enclosure tour, $250 a pop

Are they off their freaking rocker? I can get close up animal encounters at Busch cheaper than that.

We did the "Keys to the Kingdom" tour and really enjoyed it , but $250 pp is just to steep for us !

In Pine Mountain, GA, for less than $20 per person, plus $20 to "rent" a van that seats 7, we drove through a safari in Georgia and fed and pet giraffes, zebras (watch the teeth!), antelope, bison, elk, many species of large birds, camels, and many others I can't remember! http://animalsafari.com/Georgia/

I think this sounds like a fantastic experience. I have two kids who grew up volunteering at our local zoo, and they would love a chance for this kind of backstage experience especially if they could meet the animals Disney mentioning. They would get a big kick out of preparing enrichment at Disney after doing it here. My DD is pursuing a career in educational programming in museum settings; this is right up her alley.

That being said, $250 is absolutely insane.

It depends on exactly what the close up animal encounters were all about. I wouldn't book it for the whole family but for me and dd I would.

I can have up close encounters with animals on my farm at home for free...included with that I also get to muck out their stalls and feed and water them for free!

Exclusive or not, the price point is way too high. But I also think it is just plain sad that Disney is pricing out families for these types of events. Would probably be a fun thing for this family of four, but for $1,000? Are they HIGH?

Call me naive, but I have a feeling these up charging events are not going to be as successful as people expect. I doubt many first time guests would fork out that kind of money for what they see as a theme park experience and they are very rapidly marginalizing those of us that know better, and realize that most of these were things we used to be able to get for free. There will be some interest, but I'm not sure there will be enough to sustain these things.

And if there is, they will only prove that some people have more money than sense. $1000 goes a long way in the real world. $100 per person... maybe. $250... And I have to decide who gets to enjoy it? NOT A CHANCE.

I truly can't see us doing any of these events. Heck, we dropped the dessert party at MK which my kids loved just because Disney got too greedy. I can take them to the confectionary and let them spend $100 on anything they want and enjoy that more. And this from a family that fishes, golfs, eats TS daily, and over-indulges a LOT on the extra charge stuff that still carries value in WDW.

No, it just proves that people place value on different things. You have no idea why someone would choose to do this event but just because they do doesn't mean they don't have any sense, or less sense than someone who chooses not to do it.

And up the road, for $29, you can ride in the open air truck at Busch Gardens and feed the giraffes and other park animals. We did this six years ago, and it was fantastic. And it is still the same price we paid back then.

Heck for $200 per person at Busch Gardens, you get a 7 hour guided tour with front of the line access and the Serengeti Safari is included, and so are breakfast and lunch. If I'm paying $250 for anything, it would be that ($200 for the tour and $50ish for park admission).

Now I want to go to Busch Gardens again!

Yeah, yeah, I get it. I've heard this a thousand times before. I'm not new. And I know that Disney is a business, and if I don't like it I should vacation somewhere else. Place your value wherever you like, it still makes no sense to ME. And, let's save 20 posts of debate. We can both be right. I hope you and your daughter have a great time, and I'm sure you're a very sensible person.

Back in 2002 we did a tour at AK called Backstage Safari. I don't remember the cost, but it was probably around $60 or so. It didn't include food except for some bottled water and packaged snacks, but it was great and sounds very similar to this tour. It had a zookeeper take you backstage to show you how the food was prepared and where they performed vet procedures. We saw the elephant and giraffe enclosures close up. It had lots of great information. I don't think petting animals was part of it though. It was a long time ago, so I don't remember a lot of details, but it was worth the $60 back then. Add $40 for Boma and I'm not sure why this tour is worth $150 more.
