New DVC Ticket Deal

I was just looking at the offer on the members page and it says it can be used anytime between Sept. 10 and May 24th of 2015.
I did the online chat with the cast member and they confirmed that I had to buy the tickets (up to 8 per household) and that I would have to show proof of membership but that they can be used by ANYONE and I do not have to be with them for them to use them either !!! I asked if I could buy these for my daughters friends that are planning a trip for spring break and they said YES !!!

Wow. I just called and was told the opposite - that the 8 tickets were only for DVC members and their household? :confused3

I was also told I cannot "return" the 3-day hopper I just purchased for our October trip, but could save it for a future trip.

Both of these responses were what I expected but not what I hoped to hear.

Did you by any chance get a screen shot of this conversation? If yes, hold on to it just in case the next cast member you encounter see things differently.

Hope this isn't a sign that there won't be another Premium AP deal at the start of the year, much like they did this year. Fingers crossed.

I thought the showing proof of membership was interesting. It seems like you can only purchase in person or will at least have to go to GS in order to activate if they do allow you to purchase over the phone or online.

I'm so curious what must be in it for them...

Are they trying to ease crowds in MK by not allowing hopping?
Are they trying to even out crowds by allowing only one visit per park and basically requiring that one visit all four? This is not a good deal if you weren't going to visit all four for a full day each.

I'm guessing that this is NOT how most DVCers, especially after a while, tour WDW any longer.

even more confused now:confused3

Really wished I had heard about this a few days ago. We are doing a cruise in Oct and will be at the Kidani for a couple days before the cruise. Paying $100 pp to walk into a park for 2 days isn't worth it. We may do the MNSSHP one day and the pool the next. Had I seen these I would have stayed for a couple days after the cruise and they would have been worth it.

For short trips, especially around cruises these could work.

X: Welcome Home! How may I assist you today?

Me: Hi, inquiring re the new offer for 4 theme park tickets @ $199 + tax

Me: curious if I can purchase these for my adult children who are not listed on my membership

X: I'll be happy to help if I can. What are your questions?

Me: Also, if I have to physically be at the park with them for them to use or pick up

X: Yes, you must purchase them but you can give them to your children. You would set them up as will call tickets and they would use the will call confirmation numbers to link them to their MyDisneyExperience.com accounts.

X: They would not need to pick up the actual tickets.

Me: Do I have to purchase them at person at guest services in the parks or can it be accomplished by calling member services or Disney ticketing?

X: You can purchase them by calling Member Services and speaking to one of our Vacation Advisors. They can not be purchased online.

Me: Thank you, last question: is the limit 8 tickets per household or membership?

X: They can be purchased in person at the 4 Theme Parks or at Guest Relations at Downtown Disney as well.

X: There are only your husband and yourself on the Membership and you live at the same address so it is 8 that you can purchase.

X: You're welcome! Is there anything else I can help you with today?

It is odd, unless there are that many DVC'ers that have dropped down to less park days as a FP+ protest...or are going to Universal.

Now after seeing that above conversation, I'm wondering if this is to entice more guests to visit with DVC members.

Print out a copy of that conversation for your adult children to bring to will call. I had a big issue at GS with will call last Jan. I renewed my AP on the phone in Dec and was told to just show up to will call with my DVC card and ID. I purchased the upgrade, it is my membership and I had my member card....however my husbands name was on the credit card to pay, it was his separate card that he uses when he buys presents for me so I don't see where he is shopping. Anyway, the CM gave me such a problem as he said my DH purchased the ticket and must be there to claim it. Hard, because it was a mother/son trip-DH was home in NY. I often feel one hand doesn't know what the other is doing in this corporation.

I'm not thrilled with this ticket deal, and I have been lobbying DVC for a deal on tickets other than APs for a while. I don't know about you all, but we, as DVC members, visit WDW often enough that park hopping is part of our lifestyle. To lose that is a big waste for us.

any time I have purchased will call tix via a phone call with MS I was informed to bring the CC used for the transaction. I've actually never had to show it though.

Good to know that you got it all sorted out. We've had issues with GS activating wrong AP vouchers in the past but eventually it was ironed out even if it took several days for them to correct.

So many members have been lobbying for a tix discount vs AP purchases. Not all members visit more than once in a 12 month period & many of us combine other parks/beach/cruising into our visits and don't always require an continual AP.

it's really nice to be able to save some $ and be able to purchase tix for guests/family:thumbsup2even if the tix are restrictive as to parks.

This could be a selling tool to help move some inventory

I must have spoken to the wrong CM :(

My parents would like the ability to purchase tickets for my brother (their adult son) and his wife and 3 kids who are not members. They will all be traveling together and sharing a 2bdrm unit. I was told this is not possible...that it was limited to household members. Maybe there is still hope? I would feel better if we were all getting consistent answers.

If anyone is successful in buying these for non-household members and connecting them to non-household members' MDE accounts please report back!

Thanks! :thumbsup2

Unfortunately, this deal does not help our family as we usually go to the world in August and these tickets have a "use by" date. Don't really understand that. Why can't they simply expire 14 days after the first use, like usual :confused3?

Any Disney/DVC deal is used to increase Disney's bottom line. There are restrictions, certain use periods, and/or options that the buyer may or may not need or want. The AP deal was successful in getting DVC members to book extra vacations just like this ticket deal will.

Is it a good deal? For some yes, others no.

:earsboy: Bill

Seems so silly not to allow the park hopper option. It's a no brainer money maker for Disney. Wonder why the restriction.
