It looks to me like the AP is only worthwhile if you can take more than 1 trip per year. Because we live in WI, the airfare is too much to travel 2 or more times. We can easily get 3 years out of our 10-day park hopper plus passes.
We drive to WDW. It's a 14-hour trip, but we split it up into two days. It saves us a ton of money in airfare. Our kiddos are fine in the car with the DVD player and Nintendos to keep them busy. With our points, we figured we could go once during Christmas and once in the summer time.
If you bought 10 days non-expiring, can you upgrade to an AP?
