Well, I haven't closed yet, but did pass ROFR!!!

Anyway, here's the situation: I'm taking my first trip home (OKW) Oct. 2-4, but thought I'd like to try a BWV std.-view studio for this short stay. I plan on renting points for this trip since I'm not using my points until Dec. Since I'm not closing until the beginning of April and don't have a MS# yet, should I go ahead and rent the points now and have that DVC member make the reservation, or should I just wait until I have my #, then rent the points and try for the studio @ BWV? I realize those studios are very popular for the F&W, which is why I'd like to start trying now.

Help!!!! :confused3

TIA!!!

On March 3rd (when the 7 month window opened) I booked 2 BWV s studios for Oct. 1-3, so they were available then. I think that renting points from a member now, and letting them book, is probably your safest bet.

Congratulations and Welcome Home!

That's just what I was hoping to hear. Then when I do get my MS# I should be able to call and apply it, right?

Not sure what you mean by "call and apply it". If another member makes the reservation for you, he/she will control that reservation, even though it is in your name. The other member can't transfer control of the reervation to your account without cancelling the reservation and transfering points to you.(and you'd probably lose the reservation to the waitlist if they did that).

Anyway, if you want to be sure of staying at the BWV for that time in a standard view studio, it's best to rent and reserve it asap. There may not be any availability left when you close -for that matter there may not be any availability left right now, either. You can always rent out your own points to someone else after you close if you won't be able to use them before they expire.

Best wishes-

I guess I was wondering if I needed the # on there once I receive it (ie. I've gotten the Dolphin thru Priceline - once I had the reservation, I called the Dolphin to have my SPG # added). I understand about the original DVC member controlling the reservation. Sorry to cause confusion - I'm totally new to this!!!

Just posted on the rent/trade board so the wheels are in motion!!! Thanks for everyone's input!!

o.k-you close in a few weeks (april). have you considered asking your sales person to check availability on your october dates (since you don't have a # to access yet) you might be able to go one of 2 ways-

there's a special offer posted on the dvc site about a free stay with the purchase of membership, or

you could use your current points (the ones you will get when you close), get the sales person to arrange a hold on the reservation and borrow from your '06 use year for the second stay you have planned.

I know this does'nt follow the quidelines of the club, but sales and member services staff can arrange some special accommodations. I had points that were due to expire 5 day before a trip I wanted to take so I was going to bite the bullett and borrow from my next use year, but the rep. I got at member services offered to do a special transfer of the expiring points so I could go ahead and use them (and this was on a trade out to Holland America for over 300 points).

it don't hurt to ask.

The OP is buying a resale, so I don't think that would work in his/her case. My guess is that you bought directly from Disney. AFAIK, the salesguides don't make any "exceptions" for those who arenot yet members (buying resale).

Best wishes -

you are so right-resale is a whole different game.

I'm only purchasing 50 pts. and on Oct. 1 I can borrow 2006 pts. which I'm planning to do for my Dec. trip - just wanted to actually have some pts. left to use in the year 2006.

Thanks again for all your suggestions!!!

Barb - When you rent, the owner will give you a confirmation # and a copy of the confirmation letter MS mails out to the owner. It's as though you are that owner's guest. There isn't anything for you to apply to the reservation - no need to call and tell them your member # or anything else. (Anyone can rent from an owner - no need to be a member to do that and no special advantage for one owner to rent from another).

Once you have the reservation number you can call MS and ask them if there really is a reservation in your name - that makes some renters feel better about conducting business with a stranger. MS might also let you add or modify requests (view, smoking/non, etc) but any major changes have to be done by the owner.

Good luck with that ressie & renting.

Best wishes -
