New DVC Members YEA!!

Just got back from our trip and guess what we are now proud members of the club. I honestly just wanted DH to go on the tour just to look and never expected to buy. But as soon as he saw all the different places we could go he was in. We are now planning (okay I am planning) our next trip back in 2007.

I do have a question for anyone who wants to answer. Feb is our end year so we have to decided whether to bank our points by the end of July or should we try to rent them out before Feb 2007? We know for sure the we won't be going back until end 2007.

First, Welcome Home. I can tell you that banking your points may allow to have a longer vacation or better accommodations but let the pros here tell you about renting points, I dont rent but I hear its not always easy, enjoy your new Home.

Personally, I wouldn't have been very comfortable renting out my points in my first few months of ownership. Everyone's different, of course, and if you did rent them out you would effectively be reducing your out of pocket cost for the points.

Not sure on what type of accommodation you plan on reserving. If you bank your points, you might find that you will be going from a studio to a 1BR, for example, for the first trip. Beware of that, as a 1BR will spoil you for sure and you'll feel the need to buy more points!

I wish I would have the control not to go back so soon. That's our only problem with DVC...we're always trying to squeeze in more trips. We're classic examples of members suffering with addonitis! Seriously, I would just bank your points for a 1 bed, or longer stay for your next trip. JMHO.

Second, a question for those more expert in this 'stuff' than I...wouldn't the OP have additional time to decide on the banking issue since they haven't actually closed yet? I thought there were some sort of allowances made in certain situations.

We are new members as well, joined in January. After we booked out first trip in March we had extra points left over so we rented them. Depending on the amount of points you own its always nice to have some in the bank and in 2007 go all out for your first trip home. We probably purchased more points than needed now but after reading these board and everyone saying they wanted more points we just went for it.......so the extra points worked out well for us to rent. Again congrats and welcome home, you will love the DVC....

I wish I could say welcome home but I can't. We are in the process of purchasing at BCV...we passed ROFR (hopefully the biggest hurdle). Now we just have to wait for closing which could take a couple of months. I won't be on till we're actually in the system. Anyway........I'M REALLY HAPPY FOR YOU! Again, CONGRATS!!!!!!
