I purchased a resale in December which included "reservation status" points. Didn't seem like a big deal at the time because I looked forward to staying at a deluxe hotel for my next visit (I've always been an economy girl before). When I called DS for my reservations at Contemporary and AKL, I was advised I couldn't buy the Dining Plan. So let me get this straight, if I paid cash at these hotels I would be eligible; if I used points at DVC hotels I would be eligible and if I paid cash for DVC hotels I would be eligible. So what's the deal? Why does Disney consider using points such a bad thing at the non-DVC hotels? I'm essentially paying a premium price for my rooms as everyone says the points are usually worth more than the cash value of the rooms. I just would like to understand the reasoning behind this exclusion. HELP!

You can purchase the DDP if you stay in a DVC Resort but not in a Disney Hotel. If you paid cash, not points, for the room and you had any type of discount on the room you would also not be able to purchase the DDP.

The DDP was originally planned as a package thru CRO and was NOT available at DVC resorts.

DVC was able to negotiate to add the DDP for DVC stays, but stays at non-DVC resorts booked using points is still not available for the DDP.

The DDP thru DVC is a special program with it's own requirements, benefits and restrictions - no admission media is required, rack rate is not required, but only DVC resorts are included.

As for the "value" of the non-DVC options - many want to use rental rates as the standard for the "value" of a DVC point and that's fine for some situations, but DVC regards that "value" closer to what they actually received in maintenance fees for the current year for the points. When using that as the standard, the "value" has a very different computation.

I was going to make my own thread, but you answered my first question here

no DDP when booking at the hotel resorts(not DVC)

next question no DVC discount on those resorts (hotels) ?
i know AP's at times has discounts

Is/Will AK villas be available for non AK owners in Sept? Where is that point chart?

No DVC discounts on non-DVC resorts.
Non-AKV members (DVC owners) can call in June to see what is left.

Hello,

I am a realtively new DVC member. I was trying to find out if you could book a DVC Resort (OKW) as a cash reservation, and purchase the DDP.

The exact scenario is this:

A 2BDR for 8 people....they all have park tickets already.

Can I buy the DDP for the reservation if I pay for it in cash instead of points?

Thanks!!

-Steven

Member cash discounts at DVC resorts are not always available. I really doubt you could get the entire stay on DVC cash. If you only have a day or two, you might be able to get it. You'd have to make the reservation through MS and not CRO. If you make it through CRO, you have to buy the tickets (the entire package deal).

Yes I have stayed on CASH(w/DVC discount) and purchased the DDP, I have also stayed 8 nights with some paid cash and some via points and been allowed to purchase the DDP for the entire stay. We were not required to purchase any tickets.

I'm confused:confused3

DDP IS available to DVC members staying at DVC resorts on DVC points - yes?

I wouldn't call it an "exclusion". For the first year (actually more than a year), DDP was not available for DVC points stays. DVC was finally able to swing a deal to get DDP for points stays at DVC resorts. Their deal did not include points stays at non-DVC resorts. Keep in mind that "room only" reservations through CRO are not eligible for DDP, which is what DVC reserves when a member uses points at a non-DVC resort. You have to purchase a package to get DDP at non-DVC resorts.

Yes

So, if next year, I want to use my points to stay at The Grand Californian at Disneyland, I won't be able to get the dining plan?

Bummer....

Guess I should go look and check to see if there even IS a dining plan at Disneyland, now I'm not sure....
