New DVC Cost-Savings Measure?

I realize this is not major, however, it does bother me.

In Jan at BWV, I discovered the Palmolive was watered down. DD was in another villa, and hers, too, was part water. I did get a new (undiluted) bottle.

Last week at SSR, the Palmolive bottle was half-full of water. I had a scheduled move to the BWV, where I had more watery dishsoap.

Why are they doing this? I think it's gross and tacky. At first, I thought it was a fluke or a new Mousekeeper. But apparently not--it's the way things have become. (I'll be adding dishsoap to my list of things to take to WDW, and I'll be writing a letter to complain.)

Maybe, just maybe, those bottles you all got were actually bottles that the last guests left and instead of replacing the bottles maybe Mousekeeping just added water. Definately doesn't make it right and they shouldn't do that (you'd think they'd have a machine where they could pour all partially used bottels and refill bottles) but I can't imagine that they are putting new bottles that are partially filled with water out for guests because what are they doing with the other new soap that they are having to pour out?

Or the last guest added water? We add water to our dish detergent at home all the time to make sure to use everything in the bottle and make it easier to use. Doesn't save money on each squirt, because you need to use more, but it does get it out of the bottle easier, keeps the bottle from gunking up, and lets you use the dredges. Now I wouldn't add water to DVCs detergent....

Wow. How many times do you actually do the dishes on vacation? You actually inspect the consistency of the soap in the detergent bottle? It sounds like somebody needs to show you the proper way to enjoy a WDW vacation. (just teasing )

It could easily have been another guest. Palmolive is so gunky and sticky that I'd be tempted to cut it with water, myself.

I agree with you, and think you should complain.

I dont think it was a guest at all. The bottles should be replaced between guests. Those are consumable items and not meant to be passed from guest to guest.

We do pay dues afterall and they are not cheap. What's next? Watered down bottles of body wash?

I agree the bottles should be replaced. On my last trip the liquid soap bottle was 1/2 full (I am the ever optimist, I didn't say half empty). We always use the soap to wash our refill mugs and coffee mugs. I would think most folks do.

I bring my DAWN from home because it cleans better and even smells better, IMO.

This is liquid dishwashing soap. Not body soap, not single use hand soap. Gee whiz, not a problem to me if they leave me a bottle that someone else has already used. Wipe off the bottle and leave it on my counter.

Sounds like a step in making Disney resorts part of the "Go Green" campaign. Nothing wrong with helping the environment I guess.

I am not sure, but I am sure you guys know....is this also the newer concentrate stuff that should only take a couple of drops of soap to do a whole sink? If so, watering down really doesn't matter and most people probably use too much anyway.

I agree, this is not a one use product like soap bars and shampoo, etc. It seems to be a pretty big waste to throw out a bottle that was used once. But as PP mentioned, I am surprised they don't just refill it with actual soap from a refill bottle.

I feel the same way. As long as they're not leaving used bars of soap and body wash its not that big of a deal to me. Heck, they could get rid of the dish soap altogether. I bring my own most of the time anyway.

We do our part to prevent this. My wife takes every soap related product and packs them before I get all the suitcases to the room. Then we go to Basin to buy soap. My life is a sitcom.

Maybe the dish soap that they use is industrial strength and they have to cut it with water?

In Dec at BCV, We had a full bottle at full strength. I do use the dish soap to wash Mugs too. LOL, I even use the dishwasher. I did notice that there were only 3 packets of dishwasher compound. Is this normal? It was fine with me, I figured if I needed more, I would go find a housekeeper. We were in a 2 bedroom, party of 8. I'm all for keeping dues down.

DVC does not have to sanitize their dishes like foodservice places, so having the proper cleaning supplies to wash the dishes is important.

I just dont think they instructed the housekeepers to water down the dishsoap.

I agree--a half-full bottle is better than diluted dishsoap.

For some, it may not be a big deal--and that's fine. But I do lots of dishes when I'm there, and I don't want a bottle of Palmolive water--I want soap.

Just call down to the front desk or bring your own. I'd say you have had great trips if that is all that has gone wrong.
