Hi swan and dolphin lovers...I have a dilemma. I am taking my son to disneyworld in May. We were hoping for a code to come out to stay at AKL but so far there hasn't been any. I can stay
at the Dolphin on the nurses rate but my TA is very against the idea! She said I would hate the Dolphin being that it is not a
Disney resort...She booked me at the Carribean Beach for rack rate which is actually more than the I would pay at the Dolphin.
From everything I have read from your past posting everyone seems to really enjoy these resorts. Just wondering what your
opinions are???Thanks

I would choose the Dolphin, if for no other reason than you don't have to take a bus everywhere. you can walk or boat to Epcot and MGM. The doors to the rooms are also inside, which I like.

of course, then there are the beds, the room size, the grotto pool, the Boardwalk.....how much longer until my trip? LOL....

I have never stayed at the Carribbean Beach resort, so I have no idea what it's like.

you'll get a lot of good opinions here :)

Are you kidding? You can stay at a Deluxe Resort for less than a Moderate? For me (slightly prejudiced, of course) I would choose Swan or Dolphin hands down.

Pros:
1) Cost less
2) Heavenly Beds
3) Location next to Epcot
4) Location next to MGM studios
5) Number of GREAT and even SUPERB restaurants nearby.
6) Night life on the Boardwalk
7) Grotto Pool
8) Transportation system: Boat to MGM, or Epcot then Monorail to MK (or bus to MK from hotel)
9) Level of service and courtesy from CM's.

I do go on... !:hyper: Think about it. Write down your pros and cons for each on a sheet of paper. Then post your results! I don't think the MOD's are BAD in any way, it's just the Swan and Dolphin are better. (IMHO)!

You're welcome, tink44 and MOMPOPPINS!
Have fun NancyIL! You're right about that... wish I was going!
Hello Kimmar! Stop by anytime... I hardly see you post anymore, stranger! :wave2:

I totally agree with madge!

How can one compare a moderate resort to the S/D?
Does your TA even know that the S/D have recently been refurbished and renovated?
(Not that it was ever shabby in my eyes to begin with!)

Kaybee....I have stayed at many of the WDW resorts, but not the CBR.
But, I will tell you this...the S/D is one of the best resorts on property.

In fact, DH and I are taking family and a small group of kiddos, friends of my son's (who have lost their parents to cancer or parents are fighting cancer) this June to the Dolphin!
I do this every year! I consider it one of my missionary works, since I am, so far, a cancer survivor.:)

Like madge said...the beds, room size, grotto pool.....you just can NOT beat the S/D for value and LOCATION!!!!::yes::

Just stick around here for more great and invaluable information.

NancyIL....:wave2: Long time, no see!

Also...I've playing around with my PSP, and I spruced up DF99's clippie.....what do ya'll think?
Any ideas?

:smooth: Need to put my shades on! LOL! Looks like something from Sgt. Peppers? You have to be pretty creative to do that... well of course you are... look at YOUR signature!::yes::

hehehehe!

I AM the Animated Clippie Queen!
:teeth:

Think DF99 will like it?

Disbug....I am working on yours, too.;)

I really can't speak for her since we have not met personally... I think it is VERY original and can't wait to see what you do with my little purple bug! (*You should have seen her for Christmas... I had flashing Christmas lights on her! LOL!)

Glad you are up late tonight! Any more questions for the Swan and Dolphin FAQ? I am heading for bed.... just finished part 2 of my recent trip report...

I LOVE IT! ::yes:: Can I take it out of the box and play with it?

Morning all, back to work after a nice long Presidents' Day Weekdend!:hyper:

Good morning, all! I am on vacation from school but not from work responsibilities so I DIS in the early am and at dinner time.

BambiTamby~ the clippies are awesome! It is really nice having you here and sharing your knowledge of all things S/D.

MP~ I know how you must feel - 2 years with no WDW and now a trip looms close - excitement abounds! I usually cannot make a trip every year but recently because of discovering the teacher rate and spg points here on the DIS in 2002, I have made an every year trip since then with the hopes of #3 this summer.

Kaybee~ I used to say I would never stay at anything but a Disney resort - what a snob was I! But since discovering the S/D and the terrific rates, I would choose them over a mod in a heartbeat. I never once missed the Disney feel at the S/D - it's all there. You are surrounded by Epcot, MGM, B/YC and the BW. The sights and sounds (the sensory feel) of Disney are there, too. Both resorts have a Disney desk and last summer one early morning I saw 2 characters from Pocahontas walking through the Dolphin lobby. I echo what Disbug and BambiTamby have said, too.

kimmar aka hugh...~ I was very disturbed by what happened to your thread. It seems that some people like to create controversy. That can put the receiving posters on the defensive and cause great angst. It is one thing to post an opinion which is very acceptable on a public board but to be angry and accustory is another. Better times are ahead.

....coool, BambiTamby; how'd ya get those wings to move???? (sorry to digress:rolleyes: !)

We're almost twins - just one letter off!

I have stayed at the Dolphin with a nurse discount, at a Disney deluxe, and at a Disney moderate. While I am also watching for codes and may consider switching to a deluxe if the right code comes out, right now we're booked at the Dolphin, and there's no way in this world I would choose a moderate over the Dolphin!!! Even if the moderate were cheaper, it wouldn't be worth it.

We loved our stay at the Dolphin and are very excited to be going back. The location is the best in the World - you can walk to Epcot and MGM, or take boats. And the buses here are the best we've experienced of the places we've stayed.

The hotel itself is wonderful, and my sons adored the grotto pool. Their favorite resort at WDW is the Dolphin, mainly because of that pool!

I felt the Dolphin was every bit as "Disney" as any other resort we've stayed at. How much more Disney does your TA want, when you can walk to 2 parks?!

Even if a great code does come out for a Disney deluxe, we'll have a hard time deciding whether or not to take it. We'd like to try some of the resorts where we haven't stayed yet, but it will be really tough giving up another visit to the Dolphin!

Here is to another vote for the Dolphin. We have stayed at Dixie landings in the past and although its a nice resort its not the Dolphin. It's hard to even compare the 2 resorts... I would pick the Dolphin in a minute over a moderate resort...location location location...

Well its finally time.... time to do the single digit dance...

I guess you can say I am little excited today :hyper: The suitcases are out and I am beginning to pack...:teeth:

Waving to the room

::MickeyMo ::MinnieMo We will be at WDW soon ! I will unfortunately not be "live" from the Dolphin, I don't have a laptop, but will post when we return on March 14th.... :wave2:

I can feel your excitment! I hope you and your family have a wonderful time at the Dolphin! I'm sure your family is happily counting down the days. Before you know it you will be there enjoying WDW and all the magic it holds for you and your family.

I agree with everyone that the Dolphin wins hands down over a moderate! The Dolphin is a deluxe in every sense of the word.

Waving to everyone!

We are finally less than a month out for our first family trip to WDW!!! I am trying to tie up the last few strings. We will need a refrigerator so we can have breakfast in the room every morning. What does the Dolphin charge for this? Do I need to call the hotel directly to request this? Finally, how big is it? What can I fit in it? We have a grocery stop planned with out transfer and I was thinking about buying fruit snacks, breakfast bars, granola bars, milk, juice boxes, bottled water, beer?????? Any other suggestions???

You guys have been so HELPFUL!!!! THANK-YOU!!!! THANK-YOU!!!

kctinkerbell

Mom Poppins, I am so excited for you!!

what character breakfast did you finally decide on (with the free vouchers from Paramount)?

Can't wait to hear about your trip to the Dolphin :teeth:

Madge ~ We are eating at Cinderella's Royal Table and Chef Mickey's. Out of 4 trips to WDW, we have never been to Chef Mickey's. I am a little concerned about our CRT day at MK. Its the day of Spectromagic (Tuesday). I think we may leave when it gets to crowded and come back later in the evening. I don't think my kiddos can make it in the parks from 8:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. :) I still have some last minutes changes to make to our sshedules :) I have been packing all morning...

Muffy ~ Thanks for the good wishes :)

Kctinkerbell ~ I am sorry but I cannot help you with any information on the refridgerator... someone pop in and help you in a bit... :)

Waving to the room.... Where's DF? :wave2:
