Have a great time Madge! I look forward to seeing a "Live from The Dolphin" thread from you soon! :wave2:

I recently booked a room at the Dolphin and will be arriving in a little over a week. I discovered the Starwood Preferred Guest program and signed up for it online, and I got a confirmation Email but my card will not arrive before I leave on vacation. Does anyone know if I'll be able to use the SPG check-in desk and will still get the benefits of the program even though I don't have the actual card? I could bring a copy of the Email to show them. Also, if anyone has any tips for anything to do at the Dolphin, where to eat, what to see, etc., I'd appreciate hearing from you. Also, who has stayed in a renovated room? I called and requested a renovated room with the "heavenly beds" but they couldn't guarantee I could get it. How is the transportation via the water taxis or buses? We will be there right around Easter time, and I'm worried it will be so crowded that we will have to wait a long time for transportation. Can you walk to the Boardwalk from the Dolphin? How about to the monorail? Sorry for all the questions, but we've always stayed at a monorail-connected hotel before and I just hope the Dolphin is convenient as far as getting around. Anyone who can answer my question, thanks so much!!

Dreamflight, I hope you're feeling better following surgery.

Is it possible to obtain a specific room in the Dolphin via the telephone reservationists, which would require an upgrade (standard to lakeview with a balcony), or must I wait until check-in?

Lisa, I just read that you had emergency surgery, yikes! I hope you have a quick and uneventful recovery!

Sunlover,

You can print out a temporary SPG card from the SPG web site. In regards to rooms, request 6119. See my post a few pages back. I posted a link with a picture of the view from the room. This room was renovated with heavenly beds. As far as transportation, the Dolphin is great! You can take a boat to MGM, Epcot, or Boardwalk or walk to any of them. You take a Bus to MK, AK or DTD. When we were there this year and last Easter, the buses always seemed more crowded to the other resorts. No monorail to the Dolphin. Don't sweat it. The Dolphin transportation is Excellent!

GEEZ LOU!!! I am taking one of the kids - the other one is being locked in the storm cellar.................:p

If you want to access the monorail, you would either have to take a bus to MK or walk through to the other end of Epcot and hop the monorail there.

Oh, my! I've just had a chance to read up on what I've missed while I was gone and DF had surgery???????

LOTS of {{{{HUGS}}}}}      and prayers and pixie dust~*~*~*~*~* for a speedy recovery to you, my dear!

Madge - Make sure you check to see if your service provider has a local dial-up number. I have 2 set-ups in my laptop. One is standard dial up if I am out in our living room instead of on the satellite in here. The other is called Fairfield but it is NOT set as the default. Before I leave, I check Discover-net's website for a local dial up number and write it (or them if we are travelling) on an index card and tuck that in the laptop bag. When we check-in I read the directions for dialing out of the room to a toll-free number (8, or 9, or whatever - the comma is a pause normally to get the outside line) and then edit the number in the Fairfield set-up to that configuration along with the local number. Never pay a long-distance charge - maybe only a .50 local call fee. I call mine Fairfield because we are usually at a Fairfield Inn!!!!

It takes me all of about 2 minutes tops - usually longer to try to get the phone cord out of the telephone!!!

I have however stepped into the new world now!!! I have a ethernet card now AND a wireless card!!! They are going with me to Disney!

thanks for the tips! we have AOL, so I am hopeful I can find a local number without much trouble. I think Deb's site has a listing somewhere.....

we are in the home stretch now :) we leave this afternoon, driving to the TN/GA gorder and then on to FL tomorrow! Had to take DD to the peds office, she has another ear infection  some antibiotics and we are all set to go!

Bye Madge ~ Drive safe and have a great time ! We will be looking for your reports "live" from the Dolphin :)

Have a great time. Drive safely and wave towards Atlanta on your way.....DH and DS drove down this morning to watch our beloved ILLINI play Duke tonight and hopefully play someone else on Sunday. Big guys weekend.
DD and I will watch on TV. Needless to say, I am doing a lot of writing this weekend. I find that I am wayyyy to wordy!

Get better DF!! Better to be sick at home than at the Dolphin on your summer trip. Hope you are getting lots of TLC!

GO ILLINI!!!

I'll second that cheer! I'll cheer for anybody to beat Duke.....iy's old wound....dating back to college days. I've been fortunate enough to see my alma mater play in the NCAA Tournament twice...both against Duke....and both times lost by single digets.
:(

To stay on topic....I'm wishing those on their way to Disney...or already there a wonderful trip. We'll be heading down I-95 in 14 weeks....on the way to the Dolphin!!! :sunny:

After all the discussion a few pages back about preferred vs gold SPG....I got a new card in the mail today and it was preferred...I looked at my old statements and they said Gold.

I called SPG and asked why??? The gentlemen told me that Platinum AMEX onlly entitles you to preferred....I said well I've always been gold....he said email the powers that be and let them know as there wasn't anything he could do...

Zurgswife~I just talked to SPG recently about this very topic. She told me that certain Platinum Amex's are entitled only to preferred but that others are entitled to Gold. She said that it was based on whatever you were offered originally.

I think you should call back and try a different agent and explain again that your original offer was for gold status and that you have always been gold.

Just my opinion as I am pretty new to this myself.

Good Luck!!

Duke....I don't even want to talk about Duke....this is the 10 year anniversary of Christian Laetner's shot to beat KY in the semi finals of the NCAA tournament, I'm not bitter or anything....
ozzie, I hope your family eats at The Varsity--it's an Atlanta institution!

we're not quite halfway there, stopping for the night in Georgia. Lots and lots of Spring Break traffic, north and south!

That happened to me with spg... I waited a couple of weeks and called. I told this very nice woman I wanted to link my Dolphin ressie with my SPG Amex and my SPG account and she said "You know what that means? You are eligable for SPG Gold status! You should get a really good upgrade when you check in"... She was very nice and helpful.. You should try again!

I just recently found out about the SPG program on the Internet and signed up a couple weeks ago. I have my temporary card, but the real card won't come before my trip. Does anyone know if I'd be able to request any kind of an upgrade from a standard room even if I have no points yet with SPG? Would I have to request it at check-in? Has anyone gotten a free upgrade when they have requested it?

:worried: :guilty: I'm just stopping by to say "Hello", and express my feelings of angst and guilt for not being able to post more often. I've never been so weak in all of my life. I can not imagine feeling this way for "6-weeks" (or close) as the Dr. explained. I always thought you drink a couple of cups of juice, and the blood is right back where it was (at least when I've donated a pint). I lost quite a bit more than a pint. :(

MY DF had surgery on Thursday, and is recovering at home. :) Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers. XO

I want all of you to know, you are on my mind. I can not express the gratitude and :lovestruc I feel for all of you. Your posts brought smiles/tears to my face, and all the PM's which flooded my box have been overwhelming. I only wish I could answer you personally, but my ability to sit and type wanes pretty fast. To Disbug, even1, madge, BT, jgates, #1HM, ZW, MP, Muffy, Kelli, paras4ri, marymrg, jmcross, Lou, Dismom63, TinkOhio, crz4mm2, Tink44, GoofyinNY, Blondie, Ozzie...I miss you, and thank you for all your uplifting posts, PD, prayers and wishes!

*Mouseteacher...you are more special than you know.

I'll be back soon...and able to offer more tips and hints, and advice to all the questions posted! In the meantime...please, "Hold the fort down"...I'll return soon. Time for a vicodin, Slow FE and some rest.
