I just became a Starwood member and will be staying for the first time at the Dolphin. Can I use the Starwood check-in desk and can you tell my where it is located?:D

*two arm waving to the room*

but I've got to run... busy, busy, busy! :) Will tune in tonight..,
TTFN :D

Mom Poppins - hope you got enough info on live365 from the other posts. I think you need a high speed internet connection for it ot work well. (Anyone have success with a dial up connection?) This is a must for any Disney addict!

I use dial-up...for the most part, I get live365 just fine. I have a bit more trouble on the weekends, for some reason. right now I'm on the DIS in this window and the music is playing just fine :)

I image high-speed connections work much better, though.

my 2 cents on the car issue.....our oldest DS turns 16 in 2 years and 3 days (yikes!), he will earn the privelege of driving our Ford Explorer. It is a 1996, but has been very well taken care of. safe and reliable.

as far as having a car in college....I didn't. but, I lived on a campus where it wasn't a big deal one way or the other. if I wanted to go home, I hopped a ride with someone--some of my closest friendships were formed on those rides home. Times are different now, I didn't have that urge to "go, go, go" at 18 that the kids do now.

on topic: the starwood desk is off to the side of the main check-in desk, under the big sign that says "Starwood Preferred Guests" :)

does checking in at that desk increase your chances for an upgrade?

Thanks Madge:D :D :D
I'm so glad they have a sign, hate to be the one walking around aimlessly.;)

Bobump>> Thank you for the other radio choices! I just added some of them to my listings! I have "Reflections of Earth" on right now from Florida Project radio!

Mompoppins>> www.live365.com It takes awhile to get used to the setup, as it seems it doesn't make any sense at all. Last night we heard the night time parade and it brought tears to my DH's eyes as he remembered our 97 trip when we had our youngest on his shoulders and oldest holding his hand as they literally followed the parade to its ending point.

cars/cellphones>> We are both on cingular, but DD's phone is from bestbuy through virgin.com (virgin records). We had to pick and chose wisely as our area is not always showing on the maps of service. They also have a few other pay as you go plans. I can credit her account right online, and see who she has been calling and if SHE owes or I pay.

On topic>> Madge leaves soon! More "Live from the Swan!" I can't wait to hear all of her adventures!

Totally off topic>> Those purses/bags are just so precious! I guess I need to win the lotto to own a few, but it would probably help if I actually played the lotto! LOL I am enjoying yours, and the others you have shown us from online.

I need to get to... ummmm FOOTBALL! (Glad I remembered it was Monday!)

Debbie

Hi, all - just finished reading the last 2 pages.

ww52~ I'm glad you reminded me about your trip to Boston. When are you due to come here? Hurricane Isabel may have an affect on us later this week. Age is ageless here on the DIS (although I bet I beat you - maybe Lou and I are closer in age than we realize).
Frankie Avalon was my original teen idol - I remember his first hit DeeDee Dinah and that was before Venus. Although I wasn't quite in my teens when he first came on the music scene. I did buy his 45s at $0.99 each - now that really dates me!! ;)

Belle~ You can't miss the Starwood desk at the Dolphin. I had more PD sprinkled on me at the Swan and we didn't use the starwood check-in since there was no one at the front desk when we checked in. I just went up to the first CM I saw. She (Ana) was fabulous and gave us a room I never would have dreamed of getting - a jr. suite!
Although, our upgrade at the Dolphin last summer was to CL - not shabby either. :D

DF~ Thanks for the info on Annette. I know that MS is a debilitating disease and she has been in a wheel chair for a long time. I am assuming that she doesn't make any public appearances anymore.

WW52 - Your question can certainly be applied to the S/D with their high speed access - free for up to 60 minutes/session, I believe. ;)

At home here, I just installed a wireless router system. It was easy to install. My son saved up and bought a new computer (with a little help from Mom and Dad) and so far we have allowed it in his room. There's something about his computer being so much better than mine though........totally not fair :D Anyway, I decided to pay the monthly fee for a music service and he has agreed to pay for any additional downloads not covered by the fee. We kind of use the "trust but verify" method when it comes to internet activity. I don't worry about surfing so much as excessive IM'ing when homework is being done. So far, so good. We also request that the door be left open.

Dflight - regarding the logic of not allowing cars at college - My neighbors' reasoning was that they could afford to purchase new cars for their kids if they weren't paying room and board. To them, it was a matter of money. With us, if it is a 3rd family car, then my daughter will inherit it and it will stay here an extra year. However, it all depends on where my kids decide to go to school. When I went, it was discouraged by the college. It was a very small college town and very self contained. But, by my junior year - I had the itch and my dad found me a good one. I still have a few years to figure out the game plan. Somedays, I think I will never let them drive and others, I think I can't wait. LOL. Parenting is a fluid thing and I reserve the right to change the rules as I go along. ;) (that was a joke from the parent/son soccer game I played in yesterday) I agree with you though. It's important to get a reliable, safe car. I just wish hummers weren't so darned expensive:eek: Maybe that would make me worry less:confused: Doubtful.

I thought I was you today. I picked up my son from high school football, dropped his friend off, then took him to soccer. (just the local Fall league) Dh had already come home and picked up DD and DS (6) and took them to the game. (Oldest DS and DD play on the same team) Since it was raining pretty hard, I took muddy DS (6) home to start his bath/bed routine early. I know that YOU know the feeling of driving around in circles!

And, speaking of driving, there's a funny post on the "have you ever had a shock at Disney" thread. (or something like that) Someone checked into the All-Stars one night really late and ended up parking behind the taxi cab that was parked on the sidewalk.

Here's a link - you might have to page back 1 or 2 pages. Sounds like something I would do if I was really tired. Actually, it was eerily similar to something that I did when I first moved here. I got lost downtown and followed a dump truck (this was before they had those signs that say "construction vehicle do not follow") Well, I had a nice trip to where they were building the rapid transit system. That's all I can remember. I have blocked out the rest. LOL

On topic>> Madge leaves soon! More "Live from the Swan!" I can't wait to hear all of her adventures

I'm not so sure about the "live" part, Debbie. 3 kids, a car seat, a stroller, a camera bag, and a carry-on....the laptop might just be too much to deal with, LOL :)

at any rate, I'll be taking pictures and reporting back ASAP!

I keep thinking I should be doing "something"....but I'm not sure what that is! packing checklists are made, all important paperwork is in the vacation folder, the house is in reasonably good shape (will "big clean" this weekend)....I'll be a bundle of nerves next week, though! I just know it!

off topic--has anyone seem cute, SHORT sleeved Halloween t-shirts anywhere? I have checked target & old navy without any luck at all.....I'm afraid the kids will be hot at the MNSSHP...

I think my Target store had them. I'll check out some other stores tomorrow - since it's going to be my "the kids are back in school and I'm going shopping" day. I'll let you know.

I appreciate it, Mary!

Our Target has been slow to set Halloween this year, for some reason. I found t-shirts for the boys a few weeks ago. They are long-sleeved, though. The infant/toddler section didn't have any Halloween stuff out as of a few days ago...

on topic: can you use the DC discount at the poolside dining area?

marymrg>> Please don't do this often! It will end up becoming a habit and you'll be well known on the expressways! My problem is I am constantly driving the same stretch of freeway, in the opposite directions! Then again, I get to live in the nice peaceful country, so that is, as Martha would say, a good thing!

Madge>> Maybe... "here at the swan!" or.. "I was at the Swan this morning... where am I now?" "My kids are at the Swan, I am buried under baby gear!" Whatever you end up posting, we'll love to hear it all!

I love the story about the car parked behind the cab! I can picture us doing that when we used to drive straight down without any stops *except at the waffle houses in Ga for more coffee and a rest stop at night* I am so glad we're flying now! That is 28 hours I am gladly rid of!

Belle>> The desks, any desks, are all very easy to find, and if all else fails, just ask the valet at the front, or bell services just inside the door. You're going to have a great vacation!

Good night sorority sisters and honorary brothers!
Debbie

PS Let me know how the wireless system works out! We've talked about it, but are afraid with this old old house that our walls, too many walls(open floor plans were not the norm in 1885! LOL), are too filled with old wires and new and it will just create havoc with our connections.

Off to bed... is it Friday yet?

HM#1....we are wireless here.....I have a router and dd has her laptop networked to mine, wireless and loves it. She takes it all over, the basement, the deck outside and gets on. I have cable connection. Will never go dial up again. Oh the days of waiting to get on AOL....ugh. "Sorry, the network is busy"

marymrg...I went to the site you posted and only read a few of the 'shocking' things that have happened to others, and couldn't believe some of them! Hope that is never me!

Sheltered? Conan O'Brian? Those two are definitely "Oxymorons"
DF......you are right........Oxymorons! Especially if you watched the anniversary show. Sheltered was a long time ago! I am also trying to figure out how long ago I started on this thread. I am thinking about 18 months ago, as a poster. A lurker for a lot longer. Hmm.

I am with Hockeymom.......is it Friday yet? Off to bed.

Dropping in to say Hi! DD15 is up for school, now off to get DD9 going, too.

Waving to all of you! Boy, it took me a while to catch up reading all of the posts.

Madge -- did you find the shirts? If you don't find them at Target, maybe Kohl's? They seem to do a lot of seasonal stuff.

Lauren

Ozzie>> We also have cable and can't believe we survived for years on dial up! The first two years, we even had to call long distance!

On topic>> At the Disney desk at either the Swan or the Dolphin, you are able to purchase UPH tickets (among others) and take the first and last day off your tickets if you wish. You may also purchase Enight tickets at the same location.

Coffee, tea, and chocolate croissants are on the sideboard. Please help yourself! Thabo and MommaT aren't available at the virtual club level, so please put your dishes in the tubs when you are finished! LOL
The angels are due in 15 minutes. I have had over an hour at my desk and can't believe the amount of work that I managed to get done this morning! Have a lovely day!

Debbie

Hockeymom - What a calorie conservative way for me to indulge! Helping myself to coffee and a flaky croissant before I tacke the piles of paper surrounding me. Have a great day with the kids -

Lauren

Mary....I got totally distracted by the visit to the thread about being shocked...it was quite amuzing..

madge...not sure of when you are going but one year we froze at MNSSHP...ended up purchasing sweatshirts. We went for Halloween in 2000 it was chilly

ANNOUNCEMENT: I just stepped away from the computer and came back to 100's of little +'s on the screen...the arm of my chair was sitting on the key...I just laughed and laughed...ok back to your regularly scheduled post...

HM#1 ...We are also wireless here...house built in 1920 and haven't had a problem moving it around...I love it...

Everybody have a nice day..

Go Wireless!

madge...not sure of when you are going but one year we froze at MNSSHP...ended up purchasing sweatshirts. We went for Halloween in 2000 it was chilly

zurgswife we are going to MNSSHP on October 5...we went last year on the first night (around the 11th, I think) and it was HOT. At the moment, here's my plan....we are all wearing black shirts--my 2 boys have matching (long-sleeve) shirts with glow in the dark skeletons on the front, Anna & I have matching shirts from Old Navy, and DH is wearing a black polo ( that's as festive as he gets, LOL)

if it is blistering hot, then I have plain black short-sleeved shirts for the boys. I think they sell MNSSHP buttons at the MK, so I might get them each one to jazz up the plain shirt....I also saw these pumpking flashlight necklace things at target today that might be cute.

don't these stores realize I NEED the Halloween stuff to be out already? LOL! I suspect by the end of this week there will be a lot more out--it's 6 weeks until Halloween (this coming Friday) and that is a very small window for retail sales....

no Kohl's in my neck of the woods or I would check there :)
