but, I am jealous:p Wow, Sandy, I would definitely fire off a letter. Also, if you do a google search on Starwood preferred, you will find on th efirst or second page a link to a press release of how Sheraton is handling bad experiences like this. It looks as if you will either get free points, services, or nights...that is always cool in my book:D Have fun:jester:

Forgive me if this subject has been covered already.
My DD has been accepted to the Disney College program and begins on Aug. 20th. We currently have reservations at the Swan for the end of November. We are paying the government rate of 129.00 per night. Are Disney Castmembers able to get discounts at the Swan/Dolphin and if so would it be a better rate than the government rate we currently have? Thanks for any help

Hi! As we are heading to WDW in May and DreamFlight, you definitely make me think twice about the need to be careful! With 2 DS age 3 and 1, their hands are everywhere and on everything then immediately rubbing eyes, nose and then fingers in the mouth! Yuck! So, I checked the CDC web site. Here is the link on SARS. I feel better after reading it but I am definitely ordering the microbacterial wipes for the trip! Thanks for the tip! Never hurts to be safe!!!!

REF. SARS: This has definitely crossed my mind. With a DS as an RN, she has discussed the # of guests/patrons visiting WDW hailing from Mainland China. I'm wondering if the execs @ WDW are planning any preventative measures (esp. with ever-present threats of bio-terror). It is a terribly nastry strain of the coronavirus. Check-out this site for some info on 3M 8233 Respirators and Masks, Gloves & Sanitizing wipes in Stock

Dreamflight,
Do you think that with all of this going on right now in China they would still risk traveling to the us for Disney world??? I would think they would not want to risk airline travel right now unless absolutely necessary! This is very scary! I'm leaving next week and I know I will be very careful not to breathe near too many people...sure how am i going to do that Easter Week:rolleyes: Ok maybe i'll just don a michael jackson mask...pooh!! there is always something to worry about!!!;)

Oh great! I just saw my post for the first time.....my DH, the Professor (RobMax) set up my name and signature! Hmmmmm, I guess I may have embarassed him by photographing characters on many trips long before our DS's made their WDW debut! Ha ha! I wish I could post the picture from our first WDW trip where I made him do one of those dress up pictures with me!!! We did Pirates of the Carib.!!!!! If he could find that pic now, he would burn it!

Character Stalker ~ Don't fret about your user name! I'm a major character addict - I love to see the villians. On my last trip, the Queen of Hearts was wandering along the Great Movie Ride attraction area. She was completely alone! So, what does a character addict do? Approaches her cautiously to have my picture taken. She gestures for me to curtsey and extends her hand. You would have thought I just met Harrison Ford! LOL

A few years ago, I was reading a sign in the Animation Courtyard and quietly from behind Jafar approached and stood menacingly behind me! My DH was videoing the entire scene including a startled but laughing me.

jaygatz ~ since I won't be traveling to WDW in the near future, I hadn't thought about SARS. However, if I were, I would take precautions with me such as DF suggested. There are so many from Asia that travel to Disney particularly in the summer.

Sandy and disnurse - PLEASE keep posting!:)

The DW seems to be airing out her DH's laundry!!! :)

Congrats on your DD's acceptance to the DCP! I know they definitely have access to the lowest rates on property, yet am unaware if the Swan/Dolphin are included in this group. It is worth a phone call (to the resorts), just to inquire. Otherwise, the $129 rate is still phenomenal. ;)

Beader...(Hi, Sandy  )...Is this the "World Sheraton", over near Sea World? They should remove the charges PRONTO. Also, I would strongly suggest following the advice of Jay (for the Sheraton link), and lodge a formal complaint. You will more than likely receive a comp/points for all the inconvenience. Sorry for all the troubles you have incurred...no one should begin their vacation on a "sour note", let's hope the SWAN is 100% SWEET! I'm awaiting news of your check-in....;)

Character Stalker...moi aussi! Glad you found the SARS info helpful. Also, VERY NICE TO MEET YOU...DW of the Prof! His inferences to you have always been loving and delightful. Please, find the pic...I'd give anything to see it!! LOL. :p Humor goes a long way on this thread. :)

jillz....Please, do not be overly paranoid. I did not intend to make anyone so worried about this virus they will not enjoy themselves at the parks, etc. Just remember to be very cautious around food areas, and wash your hands frequently, etc. Yes, it's ALWAYS a good idea to be careful in crowds too. I would not expect the Chinese to cancel their plans for a trip to WDW, even with all that is going on in the world. Most of the infected persons are not even aware they have SARS, until the symptoms become severe. Perhaps I'll avoid the "China" pavillion in Epcot, the crowds...and lose my addiction to moo goo gai pan and lo mein! :p Just enjoy....and "ASK" any/all Disney reps about this issue if you have any reservations or queries. Education is the best method of prevention. Please, read the symptoms and great link factsheet provided by character stalker. ;)

*** News Story on Friday, 4/11:
http://www.msnbc.com/news/885653.asp?0cl=cR&cp1=1

Hello!!! We are here and check in went fairly smooth!! CL is 1250 points a nite. Our check in person showed us the list. We are actually on the 10th floor. All the rooms on the 12th floor are empty. The rooms are all open, and I peeked in. The beds were all stripped, so maybe they are renovating up there???Nice view, no balcony I can see EPCOT to the left and MGM to the right YeaHH!!! Went to the Boardway and I was SHOCKED to see it empty. Talked to a pin trader and he said the crowds are very low right now even with spring break.Went to the CL and enjoyed cold soda and munchies!! We are heading out the Downtown Disney this evening and a late dinner and some shopping. Magic Kingdom in the morning!! I cant wait. I wish each and everyone of you were all here. I promise I will think of everyone and enjoy it for all of us!!!!!!

Sandy

So no free upgrade?? Oh well, the way I look at it, what else am I going to spend the "points" on anyway??? Are there balconies on the 10th floor at all? I hope the weather is good. Have a great time!!

Hey all, beader7 look up and over we are on the 18th floor at the dolphin
CL was 1250 points, we cashed in pts for this, hotel is "near 100% full" was what front desk reported. Check in was smoooth, waited 2 hours for was a termed great view room to be ready and boy is it ever. We have CL privies and had some snacks there tonight. only rooms on CL were standard so we are thrilled we waited. As reported by beader7 it is empty over at the boardwalk.
we can see both epcot and mgm fully. waiting on fireworks.

DF99 - What a rush - I think a trip to space would be astonishing!

Just back from Chicago & the Hyatt on E Wacker Dr for my convention last week. We checked in at the Gold Passport desk and I didn't push for an upgrade, but they had already provided us with a partial city view - we were looking at the bridge that goes to Michigan Ave & the WGN building etc. Beautifully lit at night. One of our friends had a dumpster view (ha, ha) so we were 'upgraded' in that respect. We did receive our fridge free of charge and they never implemented the higher rate for nites 2 & 3 of the 4 when we had the 3rd co-worker with us. So we didn't do too badly! Everyone there was so polite - felt like we were important! I should have asked for Regency Club, but conference provided breakfasts so we didn't really need it.

Only regret was that we checked in on Tues. On Wed they were offering comps to some of the other attendees because they overbooked (2,019 rooms & they booked a ton more assuming people would cancel - oops!). One Gold Passport member was offered 2 free nites at any Hyatt property plus 24,000 midwest express miles if he would move to the Sheraton for one night. He told them no! I told my co-worker we would have been headed for the taxi so fast they wouldn't have known what hit them! The Sheraton was across the river - 5 min walk or quickie cab ride.

Oh, Tag Fairy, can we jazz up my colors? It's finally turning to spring here & I am in the mood for color!:D

Anne - no free upgrade here at the SWAN. We were short points, but we talked our check in person into letting us slide till next Sat and there should be more points in our kittie. No balconies on this floor. Seems like the balconies are on the lower floors, from what ?I can see.

Disnurse- Good for you getting that great view!! We are now loooking at the fireworks from Pleasure Island, we can see them in the distance. I am surprised that the Dolphin is close to 100%, this hotel seeems kinda empty. Everyone must be off at the parks. Do you have a balcony? I wish we did, but our view is really nice and we are just steps from the lounge(up 2 floors)
Have fun! We are doing the MAGIC KINGDOM in the morning! Th weather here is GREAT!!!!!!!!

Sandy

beader and disnurse - Thanks for the posts - your rooms sound great! Keep the posts coming. :Pinkbounc

LOL, they say that MRE's are getting better these days. Hmmm, Thai Chicken & Tang, anyone? :p :D ;)

Disnurse and Beader, glad to hear some news from the front (lol) and that the weather, especially, is cooperating. Have a great week and soak up some of that Vitamin D for us! Also glad to hear that renovations are under way on the CL floor.

Has Spring finally Sprung?:sunny:

maybe it has sprung, but we go from 80 tomorrow to the 30s by late Wednesday afternoon!!!! I am still craving some Florida sunshine!

I am checking in at the Dolphin next Tuesday (YIPPEE) Is it possible to find out which room you've been assigned before check-in? If so , how much time before date of arrival can you check?

How soon we forget the Lamb Fries Story :p :D :p

LOL...NO, I NEVER forgot that one! I was mostly referring to this one:"Thanks! But looks can be deciving. I actually almost (thanks DW) made it out of the house today without brushing my gelled hair. Looked like a NE haystack. Unfortunately that wasn't the first time. I actually made it past her about 6 months ago, made a visit to Wal*Mart on the way in (man did I get some weird looks) and then caught a glance of my hair in the mirror and had to reenter Wally world to buy a brush - now that was a bit embarrassing, especiall buying a brush when you look like the heat-mizer or better yet Don King! The longer I'm in the profession, the worse it gets. One of these days I'm going to fulfill that common childhood nightmare of going to school without pants on!" TOO FUNNY! She is a SWEETIE in my book (a LOT of women may have simply laughed, and let you pass). :p You can see the LOVE behind this pic:
aaaGlen1.jpg
AND, the neat hair is a testament to her level of commitment! ;)

beader & Disnurse! HELLO from the FRONT LINES! Sounds as if you BOTH have great VIEWS and Accomodations. CLUB LEVEL for both (Sorry for all the discrepancies with the points for this service. Some have reported 750, others 1250. Glad you actually SAW the LIST, beader). Wow...what a NICE check-in person, beader. To let you slide on the points until next Sat? At most resorts, they would not think of this. Customer service, such as this, sets the Swan/Dolphin apart from other resorts. :) OF COURSE...let us NOT FORGET, these are NOT DISNEY OWNED resorts. Feel FREE to report of your "disappointments" with ANY aspects of this reality (LOL). Enjoy...and PLEASE, keep posting (food for the Disney-starved soul).

WDW2000...I trust you are almost FULLY packed by now? Taxes are all completed and placed behind you? (Everyone?!). I would try to call the property the day before you arrive, and ask for the "assigned" room. They should be able to assist you with your request. Yet, sometimes, it is not assigned until the late shift arrives (the night prior to your check-in). They usually move things around, etc. Try calling VERY LATE the eve before you arrive. They should definitely have you in the system by then. ;)

anne60....HERE, HERE! We have the CALI sunshine :sunny: , with beautiful weather. BUT, I miss the "WILD" drenching sunshine and unpredictable weather of FLORIDA! Here in Cali, everything is "neat & tidy" with perfectly designed gutters, curbs and sidewalks...all surrounded by beautifully abundant manicured & well-maintained City landscaping. In FLORIDA...it's still W-I-L-D! There is a lack of curbing, permitting the long blades of rogue grass/weeds to "edge-up" to the uneven roadway. Gators inhabit the small puddles of water adjacent to the suburban landscape. The sand spills & swirls across the roadways in the whipping wind, as the storms blow-in from the coast. Spanish moss dances from the tree limbs, and time stands still. This is the pure unadulterated SOUTH...the FLORIDA I know & Love. ;)

Happytrails...LOL! You should try the Tex-Mex in a tube, (cheese spread mixed with chicken salsa entree topped with tabasco and crumbled crackers...yummy!), or the Embed burger (Ted Koppel's fav), hamburger patty, barbeque sauce and cheese spread...heat 'n serve! Mmmm :p Seafood Jambalaya, beef enchilada and mashed potatoes are still at the top of the list. There are 24 varieties in all, providing 1,250 calories of balanced nutrition (w/shelf life of 3 years @ 80 F). Spiced apples is one of my FAVS! Are you hungry yet? :p

greetings from the Dolphin.Checked in Fri. Got a balcony room overloking mgm 8th floor with CL I dont want to go home. This plce is amazing!!!It seems very quiet here. At Disney quest today almost empty. AK was quiet yesterday also. Weather is perfect.
