New Disney World Hotel Rumor!

Ok first of all this is only a rumor, but a great one!

According to a new rumor reported on the Mousetunes podcast, there will be a new hotel / resort where the current STOL (short take off and landing) is located near the Contemporary / Wilderness Lodge. If you don't know, Disney world has a air landing strip on the right side of the road when traveling towards the Contemporary across from the TTC parking lot. And the big news about this new resort is that it will be on the EPCOT monorail line! Yes a new monorail resort! It is supposed to be announced October 1st.
In light of that rumor-Disney also has plans of converting the wings of the Contemporary to DVC in the near future. :confused3

Yes it is accurate. WDW master plans exist that show the lake and canal. These are older so you could say plans change and they are outdated. However the current RCID 2008 comprehensive plan (available on the RCID site) clearly shows that a future canal will be constructed in this same area. Its on page 16 of the future land use element for those interested.
I've got a more legible copy of that map. It does not show a lake where the STOL strip is located. Rather, it shows an existing pond located along World Drive between Epcot Drive and Vista Blvd. The STOL is located north of Vista Blvd. This pond is within a conservation area on that map. The STOL is within an area designated "mixed use" on that map.

Some of the canals on the future development map are already in existence; however, the map does show what appears to be a much larger than usual canal, not yet existing (according to Google Earth images) running between Bay Lake (a little bit West of River Country) and an existing canal in the general area (East) of the STOL.

re Contemporary DVC--I believe the south wing is currently being renovated but the north wing is untouched so far.

Maybe these are plans for two separate DVC resorts.

A little off the beaten path here...

Lou Mongello actually spoke about how he was getting "hammered" on various boards about this rumor during the latest Mousetunes show. He seemed to indicate that his source is a solid one and he has faith in it. He also indicated that this rumor is under lock and key due to the effect it could have on SSR sales. I am not sure if the source told him that, or if he just made the same conclusion many of us made.

Or he's making stuff up. Take that, Lou :teeth:

AV just likes to stir things up without providing any real information.
Nope. It's just that Corporate Headquaters always have different buzzes, whispers and rumors than people out it in Nowheresburg.

Or have you forgotten the "big November surprise"...

OK, I'll bite. What does that mean?

Michael Eisner during a press conference announces to a stunned crowd that he is, in fact, DISer, AnotherVoice.

I know that.

Remember back in the days when dinosaurs walked the Earth and we listened to music on something called a "record" (resembles a large black CD)? Remember what happened when the needle got stuck? :)

Could you please provide a link, I would love to see this..

Yep, clear as day on page 16. You can see the new canal. For those interested in the highlevel view of Disney's plans go to:

Don't know about the 2008 opening date. Seems pretty too aggressive.

The diagram at that link is something that someone posted at a Comcast account. I assume that the person who posted the diagram is also the person who made it.

The diagram is clearly not an actual architect's plan for The Walt Disney Company. It looks like speculation by a fan, and nothing more.

The location of the canal on the the diagram does not match the path of the blue line on page 16 of the RCID document.

Take a look at the term "Vista Blvd. remodeling" on the diagram. First, when the path of a road is changed, the term is "realignment," not "remodeling." (You remodel a kitchen or a whole house; you realign a road.) And the path through the ramps makes no sense at all.

I agree Horace. I posted images from Google Earth to illustrate the area on previous pages, I could have easily Photoshopped in a second castle if I wanted to. That does not mean it will happen.

There's gonna be a second castle everyone. Yeaaahhh! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

A lot of concept drawings from Disney don't happen. I think you guys will be surprised on the accuracy on November 1st! :woohoo:

Can't state my sources...jobs are at stake.
