New Disney World Hotel Rumor!

Just for clarification on Lou Mongello's rumor, he claims it will be the first Resort on the EPCOT monorail line
That's a good point. And it's a point that further reduces the credibility of that rumor.

Can a DVC resort located at the STOL site be accessible to the monorail and/or the lagoon?
Sure, it would be possible to interrupt the Epcot monorail line with a new station (serving both directions) that's in walking distance for the STOLport site. But such a station would really end up hurting the monorail experience for monorail resort guests going to Epcot. It's bad enough today that they have to wait for two trains and to make multiple stops on the resort line (except for Poly guests who walk to the TTC). At least the Epcot line is an express! If one or more stations were added to the Epcot line, it would take longer, the ride would be less fun, and the value of staying at a costly monorail resort would diminish. That's why I think it won't happen.

And, sure, it would be possible to build a lengthy canal from the STOLport to Bay Lake. But it would be costly, and the boat ride would be long. Again, I don't think it's going to happen.

If somethng is on a fan podcast or a fan website, it should still be subjected to a sanity check, just as when somebody posts a CM rumor here.

While it would be a bad idea to interrupt the Epcot Express monorail, but why can't they run an express and an "Epcot monorail resort" train on the same track? At the STOLport station, there can be a switch that allows the resort monorail to split off to a rail section to the right of the track. It could be directly next to it, like the stations at the other monorail resorts.

This would require installing a switching rail there and marking certain trains for express or resort, but it is feasable and would not require building a whole new monorail loop.

I doubt this resort would be on the water. I don't see them installing a resort between the Wilderness Lodge and the Campground. Well, unless they theme it in the Wilderness style.

And I agree, any canal would be a long way. They could technically build a new lake, but that would also be pretty costly.

My bad, I had assume they were adding the resort to the MK/TTC line along with Poly, CR, etc. Now I see that it will be a stop on the Epcot line. I guess I need to read more carefully.

For years we all heard rumors the outer buildings of CR would be razed, with DVC built in it's place. I can't imagine that happening with remodeling going on in the same areas rumored to be razed. (I haven't paid enough attention to the north building. But could always take a peak. ;) )
Maybe building a resort along the Epcot monorail ended up being more feasible and enticing that tearing down and rebuilding entirely.
It would sell, and guests would still use the monorail. I can't imagine those kinks could and would not be worked out.
Another deluxe. Not a bad idea.... :goodvibes

Personally, I would prefer to see a new moderate resort. That obviously would not be on the monorail, but I think thats what they could use.

OK, after thinking about this some more, I really hope this is true. Think about it. A monorail to both EPCOT and MK!! How awesome would that be. That's better than being on the resort monorail line.

That's the thing - if Disney is indeed now renovating the north Garden Wing at the Contemporary, in a similar manner as the south wings, wouldn't that seem to indicate that there are no current (or near future) plans to gut or demolish the wing and build a DVC addition in its place? It would seem such a waste to renovate and refurnish rooms you are only going to keep around for a few years, at most. If you were going to put a DVC into the north wing (which, IMHO, would be a mistake - better to leave the Contemporary alone and build elsewhere, such as the STOL rumor), the work required would be far greater than the current renovation efforts (and such construction work would immediately be obvious).

I have seen at least one website indicate the north wing renovation is either now underway or will be very shortly, but I'm really shooting in the dark here. Is there anyone around WDW now who might want to walk over to the north wing and see if any part(s) are closed off for renovation?

Not to doubt you at all, but this could almost be referring to the (just announced) two new hotels being built by Hilton over at Bonnet Creek, though I thought they weren't to open until 2009. I could easily see someone referring to these (which will include a major conference center) as being "new and inside WDW", when in reality they are just new and very close to WDW.

No it is in WDW and the company is a huge insurance company and this has been confirmed by conference planning...and that it will be summer of 2008..in WDW...This summer while we are at the conference we will find out hte name of the hotel that is what they usually do.....I will let you know at the end of JULY!!!!

Cool.
Please give us all the details you can get.
I can hardly wait!

Just curious, how can it be a DVC for the Contemporary when the proposed site isn't close to the Contemporary? I was under the impression that the DVC for the Contemporary is taking over the garden wing that is being renovated right now.
I agree.Isn't the WL between that land and the CR?

To the monorail most definitely, but it will be the EPCOT monorail line, which would mean you'd have to switch trains at the TTC to get to MK.

As far as accessibility to the lagoon, it is a fairly land-locked area. Not many options, if any to connect to the lagoons.

There are plans for a lake on the STOL site that would connect to Bay lake via a new canal.

I agree that that's a rumor that's been spread on the Internet.

But is it really accurate to say that "there are plans" by Disney to actually do so?

And who said this is going to be a Disney development?

Well if its a DVC I imagine it would be a Disney deal don't you?

Yes it is accurate. WDW master plans exist that show the lake and canal. These are older so you could say plans change and they are outdated. However the current RCID 2008 comprehensive plan (available on the RCID site) clearly shows that a future canal will be constructed in this same area. Its on page 16 of the future land use element for those interested.
