Ok first of all this is only a rumor, but a great one!

According to a new rumor reported on the Mousetunes podcast, there will be a new hotel / resort where the current STOL (short take off and landing) is located near the Contemporary / Wilderness Lodge. If you don't know, Disney world has a air landing strip on the right side of the road when traveling towards the Contemporary across from the TTC parking lot. And the big news about this new resort is that it will be on the EPCOT monorail line! Yes a new monorail resort! It is supposed to be announced October 1st.

That rumor says the resort will be DVC part of the CR DVC rumor that has been circulating around for a while :)

The podcast I heard awhile ago (1-2 months) said that a new DVC Contemporary Resort project was going there. Which of course, would be on the monorail line.

Just curious, how can it be a DVC for the Contemporary when the proposed site isn't close to the Contemporary? I was under the impression that the DVC for the Contemporary is taking over the garden wing that is being renovated right now.

Just a Hmmm, but maybe WDWR and DVC have studied the idea and it has developed into this new proptery as per the amount of interested in a Monorail DVC property.

This rumor has been discussed on DIS a few times, both here and on the DVC page. So check those out for some more info.

The problem is that for many moons, a new DVC has been rumored at CR and Poly, much like at BW and WL. Lou Mongello reported that now it seems an entirely new building will be constructed at STOL. Though these two are related rumors, they are not the same rumor.
Infact, the debate over whether or not DVC will build to an existing MK resort or construct this new one still goes on. Nothing is very clear right now, but most of the current info is surrounding the STOL site.

If this works, the link is to a pic of the WDW STOL.

The second image shows the distance from the Contmporary to the STOL strip. It's not that close, so I don't think this could be the site of the DVC branch of the CR. MAybe a NEW resort. Heck, I'd love to see them go ahead with the VEnetian resort from Walt's original 5 MK resorts. Now THAT would be cool!

Hmmmm, I like this rumor! :teeth:

There is a new hotel and it will be open ofr the summer of 2008 my Dh his company is going to be holding its conference there...this is all we have been told is that it will be in WDW and at a new hotel.....

That's the thing - if Disney is indeed now renovating the north Garden Wing at the Contemporary, in a similar manner as the south wings, wouldn't that seem to indicate that there are no current (or near future) plans to gut or demolish the wing and build a DVC addition in its place? It would seem such a waste to renovate and refurnish rooms you are only going to keep around for a few years, at most. If you were going to put a DVC into the north wing (which, IMHO, would be a mistake - better to leave the Contemporary alone and build elsewhere, such as the STOL rumor), the work required would be far greater than the current renovation efforts (and such construction work would immediately be obvious).

I have seen at least one website indicate the north wing renovation is either now underway or will be very shortly, but I'm really shooting in the dark here. Is there anyone around WDW now who might want to walk over to the north wing and see if any part(s) are closed off for renovation?

Not to doubt you at all, but this could almost be referring to the (just announced) two new hotels being built by Hilton over at Bonnet Creek, though I thought they weren't to open until 2009. I could easily see someone referring to these (which will include a major conference center) as being "new and inside WDW", when in reality they are just new and very close to WDW.

My understanding of the CR DVC rumor was that the STOL site was the staging area for the new construction not exactly the locale of the new "wing".

I'm going down on September 30th. If any announcement comes out, can you keep me updated? If they're going to make an announcement on-site, I'll be there and take some photos, etc :goodvibes

I don't think that the STOL is the site for the CR wing, but some have argued it is the staging area for it, as you have said. A gigantic place where they put lots of heavy equiptment...for renovations to an existing wing.

The STOL site is now heavily rumored as the location of a brand new, not CR, DVC resort. It seems a bit over-the-top, but makes more sense to me then a few hundred units added to a refurbished wing at CR.

When a DVC property opens on the MK monorail line, there will not only be massive and quick new sales, but there will be a potential scramble for add-ons from the existing members, many of who have been waiting for just such a resort to open before they add-on. Disney knows this. For this resort, they can charge much more then they have for the previous one, and they will get it. A few hundred rooms at the CR seems grossly inadequate.

Can a DVC resort located at the STOL site be accessible to the monorail and/or the lagoon?

OK, but it seems the STOL is behind current resorts and therefore, not accessible to the monorail.

I don't think that resorts are between it and the monorail line. I think there are other obstacles, but that certainly can be worked out.

As far as the lake is concerned, they can build a canal.

The Epcot monorail line runs between World Drive and the actual runway of the STOLport. If this new resort is to be a "monorail resort", it would have to be on the Epcot line, not the Resort Loop.

Thanks Ted and Holly, that really clears it up. Now, I'm not so sure. I do think that they can get a canal connection to that area, and that may be enough to get people to buy in there. Hmmmm, this is a tough one.

Just for clarification on Lou Mongello's rumor, he claims it will be the first Resort on the EPCOT monorail line
