New Disney Theme Park reservation system

Someone on WDWMagic who took the TA training on the reservation system said that for WDW, the time only refers to park hours. It sounds like they may be using the time slots for Disneyland though. She said they very specifically spoke to this point in the training. (And another TA who did the training confirmed.)

Yes, this is accurate for WDW. Once you have your day reserved, you can also come and go as you please

I posted this on the Rumors board, but I'll throw it out here as well. Here's our sad story (I know - plenty of people have them, but here's ours)

The statement about new ticket sales for 2020 not opening until later this summer is brutal.

Our son and his friends had a May trip planned at Copper Creek using our DVC points to celebrate college graduation. They moved it to June after the free dining offer dropped as we (wrongly!) assumed that meant WDW would be open. When it became clear that wasn't happening he moved it to Aug 1-8 but none of his friends could go that late in the summer.

So - rounded up three more guys, added them to the reservation, and removed the original guys. The new guys decided to wait to buy tickets until they knew WDW would actually be open, which at the time seemed like a responsible decision for three recent college grads with limited funds. Of course, as we all know once Disney finally announced the dates they halted ticket sales. So none of them, other than my son, has tickets. All of the original guys on the reservation have long since asked for and received refunds for their tickets so we can't even go the reassign route.

I guess the only thing we can do now is have our son make his reservations ASAP, then wait until Disney decides to reopen 2020 ticket sales. Fortunately, as our son has tickets he should be able to at least check park reservation availability before asking his buddies to fork out the cash for tickets. Though I'm not too hopeful that there will be much left over after literally everyone on the planet with some type of ticket has already booked their park reservations.

I'm pretty ticked off that DVC allowed members to continue to make room reservations after WDW cut off cash reservations last month. And yes, I know that having a DVC room reservation does not guarantee entrance to the parks - so please spare me the reminder. However, after the whole June 1 Free Dining debacle, I couldn't imagine Disney being so obtuse as to allow DVC members to continue to make reservations knowing it would be very difficult if not impossible to actually get into the parks. We are new DVC members, and right now while I'm trying my best to stay positive, I'm not feeling the Disney or DVC love.
I feel your pain. I am having the same experience.
I am also ticked moved my reservation from 7/4-11 because the parks where not open also
I had 2018 points that had to be used by 9/30/20 So I moved my reservation to 9/22/20 & added some family members and then went ahead and bought airfare and then found out we couldn't buy park tickets
Never told by member service I could not buy tickets. They could have at least shared that info at booking. It is so unfair I feel like I have been played.
I no it's the virus, but come on we have been very loyal all these years to DVC all they had to do is give us a heads up.
So mean

DVC "leadership" throughout this has been a joke

I am hoping that maybe before Monday they will come out and decide not to allow everyone on.

I think it would have been so much better to make Monday just July and August trips only.

Park reservations need no more than the standard 60 day window used for many, many things. That would give Disney more options too, as the situation evolves over time. I'm still baffled that they didn't do it this way. Reserving parks for next year already for those of us that have APs and resort reservations already really isn't fair to those that don't, even if it does favor us.

Given the current criteria, riddle me this. I have resort reservations and current APs for Aug, Thanksgiving, and Easter 2021. Where do I put my priorities at 7:00am Monday morning? (Rhetorical question but you get my point.)

What if my Thanksgiving waitlist comes through and my reservation number changes? If I was lucky enough to get park reservations because they weren't all gone at 7:05 Monday, won't I lose them if my waitlist comes through? There's a bunch of FUBAR stuff wrapped up in all of this.

I have 4 day park hopper tickets valid starting 7/23/20. My daughter has the 4 park magic tickets valid starting 7/23/20. We also have a room reservation linked. Can I make our park reservations together at the same time or do I need to make them separately since we have different types of tickets?

And to add to this booking for next year.... How in the world will those of us with AP’s
that expires in December gain the ability to book past December when our renewal period isn’t even open yet? 🤔

My frustration is that there doesn’t seem to be any logic to who receives Disney’s informational emails and when they receive them. Some of our traveling party have gotten the park reservation email while my husband and I have not. Fortunately I knew this was coming so have been faithfully stalking these boards...Thank you Mods and fellow Disney Enthusiasts for keeping this (and other threads) filled with up-to-the-minute Information.

From some different sources out there..posted in other threads and what I was told...the system is going to only allow for 2020 bookings come Monday.

I know I want to get my August and October ones done next week...but not the others booked as those are solo trips anyway.

In terms of reservation # changes, yeah, I don’t know or haven’t heard about that

Together as long as you can see her linked ticket as part of your account.

As a loyal and enthusiastic 20-year DVC member I have to say I am truly disappointed how we “landed”
as a group in all this.

I’ve been supportive of Disney throughout this unprecedented pandemic and the challenges for the company are indeed enormous. I also completely agree with keeping capacity at a minimum over the next several (or more) months to keep guests and CM’s as safe as possible.

However, the fact that the thousands (?) of DVC members who have reservations already booked between now and September 2021 may now not be able to get into a park during their stay because they hadn’t previously purchased a park pass seems really unreasonable.

In addition, as they are allowing the general public to book new 2021 reservations on Monday and buy park passes at that time as part of a “package” this also leaves DVC members out of the equation, and simply adds insult to injury.

We had already moved our November 2020 reservation to next March but hadn’t bought tickets yet (we have AP’s expiring later this summer and weren’t sure whether we were going to buy 7-day passes or APs for next year, since we have to fly down from Boston). Thus we now can’t make park reservations for our March 2021 trip. While I certainly anticipate as capacity opens up there may be more opportunities to secure park reservations, it just seems to place unreasonable stress on their loyal group of DVC members.

We are now talking about moving to next fall but then we have to deal with the 50th craziness. And I have to use a LOT of points by the end of next November given all the banking that had to happen, or we will lose them. Ugh.

Perhaps there will be upcoming news this week for DVC members that mitigate some of these challenges but it certainly seems there could have been a better way to handle this!

For those who have a DVC stay booked but do not have park tickets yet, I am in the same boat and just talked with a DVC rep. In order to get park tickets on June 24th, we would have to cancel our DVC stay and book a new hotel stay with a vacation package. This means we will just need to wait until park tickets go on sale for who with a resort stay already booked.
This doesn’t seem fair. If they’re going to let non-DVC essentially purchase tickets, they should allow DVC members with existing reservations do so as well.

Just to clarify...they are not resuming any sales Monday. On June 24th, they will allow room only guests to purchase tickets for 2021 and upgrade to a package,

IMO, the reading of that should allow DVC members to also purchase tickets for 2021...similar to how we could the DDP.

On June 28th, they will be allowing new pavakge reservations for 2021 To be booked,

Nothing is being done for DVC or cash guests with 2020 reservations who need tickets at this time.

From what I know, they want to get ticket sales for 2020 back up as soon as they can which is why in the next few weeks, everyone with tickets will have had an opportunity to book 2020.

Once that happens, they will know how many tickets to sell for the rest of the year.

I think anyone with a 2021 trip should call Disney to try and purchase tickets on the 24th to see if they are allowed to do so.

I agree and someone pointed out it seemed to indicate DVC would be allowed to buy the tickets,

I would call Disney on the 24th vs MS, but I’d DVC is excluded, I would definitely certainly move that complaint up the ladder!

I think it was mentioned in the announcement that if you currently have a resort or DVC reservation and are in need of adding tickets that you can call ticketing and do this. I hope things work out for you!

Huh, Maybe I’m brain dead from reading about 30 pages of this board below yesterday, but thought the 2021bookings opening on Monday sounded correct. Will check back. Tks.

Also not sure I can convince a large family group that everyone needs to buy park passes now for a trip that may be 17 months away 😬

I'm holding reservations for March 2021. I let our annual gold passes lapse because they would have tun between February 2020 and February 2021, and we wouldn't have been there during that time. I didn't consider buying new passes to have sitting in my account as un-redeemed because, of course, we weren't going for a year. Now, I'm without passes and the ability to buy them. Of course, Disney will eventually re-open pass sales. But, will they open up in time for us to get park reservations? That's a big unknown, because there isn't enough history for anyone to know what capacity issues or whether the reservation system will be needed 8 months from now!

I have to tip my hat to Disney's IT department yet again. I've gotten multiple email messages saying I had a DVC reservation and tickets, so I should do the park reservation thing.

Does anyone know if we can still book our park reservations under one MDE? I heard rumor that everyone in your party will need a MDE? I sure hope not because some people are not tech savvy.
