New Disney Ships: News, Rumors, Speculation.....and Names!

Enchantress is usually associated with "evil" it is also associated with seductress, sorceress, and witch. Again it would not translate well into other languages because of the connotation of evil. Just the thoughts from a linguist.
So sorcerer Mickey is ok but a sorceress isn’t? Thoughts from a non-linguist is, Enchantress is a great name, I picture beauty, grace and class when I hear that. Kind of like the Good Witch on Wizard of Oz.

I don't think they'll name a ship Sorcerer either. It's great if you like a name but it doesn't mean it's practical. Wasn't this thread talking about other markets for these ships? Disney has to choose names that translate and work in other languages. Enchantress doesn't. Many languages do not feminize words in the way that English does making the "-ess" tricky. For example in Turkish the word translates into "female wizard". That's just an example of the translation that has nothing to do with connotation. But for another example in Chinese the only way to translate enchantress is "witch".

By all means add the name to the list of favorites from this group. I'll not be adding anything else to the topic of this particular name.

And vice versa if the person it was named for did something bad, of course they aren't gonna say that.

Yeah, I was thinking along those lines also. Once the ship is named and christened, it's a lot of work to rename it and re-register it ;)

Okay, so let's play a game (can you tell I'm bored at work).....

If you could pick only three names from page one that would match cohesively with the four current ships, what three names would you pick (from existing suggestions on page one only please)?

Mine: Imagine (I think Imagination might be too long), Star, Wish/Wishes

And what ONE character from the page one suggestions would you like to see in the atrium?

Mine: Walt Disney with Mickey like in Magic Kingdom. He and his wife loved cruising so much.

[I'll tally up the votes later and post on page one]

Enchantment, Imagine, Marvel

Goofy

Names: Discovery, Imagination (agree that Imagine slips off the tongue easier, but sticking with nouns), and Spirit

Atrium: Goofy

Do you think would use a ship and revamp it to be strictly a Marvel theme? A floating Marvel park maybe combined with Star Wars themes? That would be interesting.

Oh oh oh -- and that brings a new name to mind -- Disney Falcon ;)

It definitely goes with the cohesiveness and the ship could definitely be a draw for Marvel and potentially Star wars fans with themed sailing that they are already doing.

Also I was debating Star as the third but I just love saying the Disney Marvel lol. If they can find a name that combines the two they will probably bring fans by the boatload pun intended lol.

No, I don't think that would happen. Even though there are lots of Marvel/Star Wars fans there are many more potential cruisers that would find this a turn off.

I like Star Wars (ok, ok, I am starting to get fatigued a little tbh) and I still wouldn't want to see this... its not like they themed the classic ships around ONE IP. Why start now?

Mine: Adventure, Legend, Discovery. (I thought Disney Treasure was suggested or maybe that was my imagination but I stuck to the rules and only picked from page 1)

Captain Hook for atrium

Not only that but is considered bad luck to change the name of a ship once named.

The only advantage I could see is MAYBE the Fantasy could start doing normal cruises between January and April again. I'd love to go back on her, but I don't want to be relegated to my cabin, the Rainforest Room and/or Palo all day to avoid Star Wars.

Adventure, Discovery and Imagination.

Imagination has to have Figment art.

Mulan's restaurant will have an east Asian theme.
Jasmine's restaurant will have a West Asian/Mediterranean theme
Lilo and Nani's will have a Polynesian theme and Stitch, of course!

I love the idea of a true Asian menu. However, DCL currently considers Animators to have Pacific/Asian food. If they follow tend and keep AP on the new ships, I'm not sure they'd do a service Asian inspired menu.

My top three are Imagine, Wish and Spirit.

I would LOVE Steamboat Willie in the atrium. And for them to sell a miniature in the shops onboard!

As long as it isn’t the Disney Anna or Elsa and doesn’t have those characters in the atrium, I will personally be happy!
