New Disney Ships: News, Rumors, Speculation.....and Names!

This isn't Disney news, but with the speculation about stationing a ship in Asia, I thought it was interesting.

NCL built the Joy especially for the Chinese market. It was designed for Asian tastes, the food was mostly Asian, the primary language was Mandarin, etc. Well, after just two years they announced today that they are pulling it from China, spending $50 million :scared1: to renovate it and moving it to the west coast of the US to sail Alaskan and Mexican cruises. They are replacing the Joy in Asia by renovating the tiny Spirit (one of their smallest and oldest ships) and sending it over to China "seasonally". It appears they seriously miscalculated the demand for their product in Asia.

I've pretty much always assumed that Disney would put a ship somewhere in Asia, given their huge theme park presence in the region. Now I'm beginning to wonder. I was reading about the Joy change over on another website and someone mentioned that Princess recently recalled a large ship from China as well. I have no idea if that's actually the case, but maybe the Asian cruising market isn't as lucrative as many of us thought? I still think if anyone can make it work, it would be Disney. There is obviously a demand for their unique product in Asia.

Time will tell.

The new Bliss was kinda based off of the Joy with the go cart track and all. That one was designed for Alaska. The conversion to be more like the Bliss shouldn't be hard. The news here is those arw big boats and both will be doing Alaska.

Can you please share more info/detail about this?
It's kind of like Chipotle. You pick your base, your protein, your veggies and toppings. It looked really interesting. I only ate on deck twice though, and I didn't see this option until after the second time when I'd gotten my schwarma already. The station was at Daisy's where they have the fruit and sandwiches.

We did this on Carnival last year -- in their specialty Asian restaurant, they had free lunch every day. It was like an assembly line as PP described. They had some amazing selections and great proteins. We came upon it by sheer accident and were glad we did. It's a wonderful idea for seaday lunches -- hope Disney does it more often.

This option was also available on the Wonder in March 2018. Didn't try it since we loved the shawarma but it looked good.

Has no one suggested the Nautilus?

All the current ship names are nouns. Does anyone think they will start using other parts of speech? I would go with Adventure, Believe, and Wish. But one of those isn't a noun.

I will add that to page one -- you are the first to suggest it. :thumbsup2

How about Walt? or Roy? Or Willy? :sail:

But then don't put evil in the title? Lol. I mean there are villians in Disney so I don't think it would be a crazy idea but that's just me :)

Enchantress is usually associated with "evil" it is also associated with seductress, sorceress, and witch. Again it would not translate well into other languages because of the connotation of evil. Just the thoughts from a linguist.

Ahhh okay. I'll settle for S.S Ursula instead ;)

Dream and Wonder can also be verbs.

That station was there every day on the ebta in may. I think I had it every time there was a ramen broth option. The fresh jalapenos, cilantro, and lime wedges available really brightened the flavors!
