New Disney Ships: News, Rumors, Speculation.....and Names!

I agree the tech will get enhanced etc. The one thing that bothers me about what DCL is doing is that there os no incentive to go to a different ship. I'll use Palos. Palos is common to all 4 ships. if you've done 1, youve done all 4. It's not like Palos on the Magic, say Bennihana on the Wonder, Brown Derby on the Dream, where each 1 is different theme, different menu. I can see Animators being common to all 7 as that's a staple, but the others need to be different from each other so each ship has an identity and appeal with an incentive to move from 1 ship to the next. I k now I'm probably mixing up lines here, but something like Guy Fieri on 1 ship and a sister ship has Margarittaville, another ship has Johnny Rockets etc.
Exactly! The only reason we are doing the Dream in 2020 is so my girls can experience the 18+ activities, otherwise there is no incentive for us to go on the Dream. We have been on the Wonder, Magic and Fantasy(x2)

Speculating a bit here but I believe Disney's intent is to keep the ships (and therefore the experience) similar across the line. There are a many differences, but guests aboard any of the ships will experience a very familiar feel. The differences that will drive people to different ships are the itineraries and ports.

All ships today have Palo. Dream and Fantasy have Remy. I can see the new ships all also having Palo, but a different restaurant in place of Remy. That said, I'm not sure what it would be with Palo being Italian and Remy being French.

Agree with PP that Animators is likely to be there as well as Cabanas. One of the others will be aligned with the Disney character/mascot of the ship in some way. I'd love to see Stitch be one of the statues in the main lobby with a Hawaii theme restaurant. Oh the possibilities. I really like Tiana's Place on the Wonder for that third restaurant. The Magic now has Rapunzel's Royal Table. Thinking about Disney movies, which movies have an iconic restaurant scene or (like Tiana) have one as part of the fantasy? Ratatouille is already covered with Remy. Maybe they do something based on Flo's V8 like Cars Land? I would love to visit the Snuggly Duckling bar, maybe instead of O'Gills? I understand they did this once for the debut of Tangled.

Haven't read the thread. Did look at page 1. A few comments:
While I think that Disney Wishes follows the similar theme for ship names, I don't think they would go for it as it starts with W like the Wonder.
I don't think they would choose Imagination only because Carnival has a ship by that name that name. Yes, Carnival also has the Magic, but that launched after the Disney Magic.
I can absolutely see them choosing Believe for a ship name.
I'm surprised Disney Vision isn't listed on possible names, although I realize that Royal Caribbean has a ship by that name. It's catchy though and still evokes that fantasy like theme of the other ships.
Another one not on the page 1 list is Disney Illusion. Yes, very similar to Magic, but not the same and I can't think of another line that uses it.
I also like the Disney Empress, with it's tie to the Pirates movies and opportunity for a Chinese theme with Mulan as the atrium character. I don't see them using this though, especially if they pick Disney Enchantment (which I think is the strongest possibility from the names on page 1).
Another one not on the list is the Disney Sorcerer. I can see that name taking shape. That's a medieval England setting that would set up for that type of theme for the atrium character (e.g Rapunzel). The name also evokes the same fantasy flair and allows for the Fantasia theme for bow/aft art as well.

The pattern I'm thinking Disney is going to go for is something that aligns with the current ship names in some way (Wonderment, Fantasy, Magical, Dreamy). At the same time, it should tie into something of the Disney existing franchise of movies, be unique in the industry and among the fleet and provide some sort of theme for the ship that could be carried out in the restaurants, pubs and atrium settings. A lot of the names from the list on Page 1 are a complete departure from the direction Disney has been going in. Since the ships don't look like a complete departure, I don't think the names will be either.

one can look at it any number of ways. If Disney is doing it as cost savings then that's 1 thing. Of there doing it because that's what everyone else is doing to their fleet, that's a different story.

I really don't think it's about cost savings. I think it is about creating an experience. People don't like change and consistency breeds comfort and less stress. They keep some things the same and some things they change. Nice balance. No two waterslide experiences are exactly the same. Even though they have Cabanas on all ships, they layout is different depending on ship class. Palo is the same name but a different place. Why do people go to the same restaurant on land?

I just don't think it's a cost savings measure.

Ding, ding, ding, ding! :thumbsup2 I think you hit the DCL nail on the head! And for me and my family, one of the main things we love about DCL, and why we want to return over and over is that we KNOW what we are going to get, small variations that are bound to happen notwithstanding. We get the most gorgeous ships at sea in my strong opinion (I'm talking predominantly about how they look on the exterior, though I think Disney's ships are stunning inside too, Tastefully so.), we get superb service almost without fail (I've spent over 3 months total on DCL cruises), wonderful family friendly entertainment, good to great food, and lots of things included that other cruise lines do not have.

Think about Disney fans.....just the Disney parks for example: people LOVE it when there is something new being added (usually LOL) like new attractions, new lands, etc. But boy howdy! If Disney is going to DELETE something???? MERCY!!! Remember when Mr. Toad's Wild Ride was being removed? And I was one of those people that was sad to see it go. Even and especially on the Disboards, we hear folks complaining about something gone that "used to be". How many of us miss the fabulous upstairs part of The Cove Cafe on the Wonder now that it is assigned to Concierge guests? Me, for one. ::yes::

I return to a restaurant we love over and over and over because I KNOW what I am going to get. And if DCL is someone's cruising "cup of tea" like it is for us, they're going to return over and over in many cases.

Did Rapunzel's Royal Table replace Lumiere's on the Magic? If so, I'm surprised as they came out with an additional Beauty and the Beast movie :confused3

Also, for PP, I have added Disney Empress & Disney Vision to page one. Does anyone remember the Empress Lily at the old Downtown Disney (I think later it was Fulton's) named after his wife? We ate there and it was a lovely place and so fancy.

Even though Carnival has Imagination, Disney might use Imagine.

No Rapunzel's replaced Cariocas ( the original Parrot Cay)

Both cruises I've been on had a Snuggly Duckling night at O'Gills. I think it's a fairly regular thing at least on the Magic seven night cruises.

Snuggly Duckling Takeover always takes place on the Magic on the same night that Tangled: The Musical is performed (one of the two nights if Tangled is performed twice on the cruise) :)

I don't think they would choose Imagination only because Carnival has a ship by that name that name. Yes, Carnival also has the Magic, but that launched after the Disney Magic.

Carnival also has a Dream and Fantasy, both of which began sailing before Disney's (2009 and 1990 vs 2011 and 2012), so that's clearly not an issue ;)

So if we have Tiana's and Rapunzel dining experiences, does this mean we might see other themed dining? Moana? Big Hero 6? Brave?

I would be interested to see a restaurant themed to the ""Spirit of Adventure" from Up.

For us it was our least favorite for food and decor. I personally found it dark. My friends were on a Med cruise this summer and raved about Rapunzel's. They do a lantern parade.

I personally liked the "original" Parrot Cay -- in its glory days. Once they removed all the décor for the Med cruises in 2007, it killed it for us - but still liked their menu.

As I said before (and is suggested on page one), Disney needs a Mulan themed Asian type restaurant. Every cruise line we have been on had an Asian specialty restaurant. One themed for Moana with Hawaiian food would also be an exciting idea. I'm listing that on page one. Thanks.

Edited to add: I also listed a Mexican themed restaurant to honor "Coco". That movie really surprised us and was very good.
