New Disney Ships: News, Rumors, Speculation.....and Names!

Can you make out what the atrium character is?
i don't see one at all in fact, would really like more information on it

They are holding a lot back - that could be one of the things. There is clearly a podium there, and I doubt they will leave a plain podium which would just encourage climbing and jumping.

Another "rumor": One of the ships may port in Tokyo with a potential itinerary of Tokyo, Okinawa, Shanghai, Busan (Korea), Jeju Island (Korea) and Osaka (Japan). There would be 5 and 10 day routes. Not sure with the current uncertainties with Hong Kong if they will keep the Shanghai stop. I would love to see this type of route include Vietnam, Taiwan and/or Singapore. Again, this is only a "rumor" or what they contemplated a few years ago. Not sure if they decided to follow through but would be awesome! I could see one of the new ships being customized to include an Asian fast food venue on the open deck.

I've love this so much. I want to go to Asia and include a cruise on the trip but it will have to be without DCL unless they get there in the next 4 to 6 years.

id really hope if any ship did Asia it wasn't the Dream, Fantasy, Wish, 6 and 7 because i feel like it would end up like how the NCL Joy ended up being back in the U.S.
To clarify my comment, I think the most likely option is the Wonder doing a few Asian itineraries following its Alaska season to test the market. Similar to the Magic’s half season in the Mediterranean. 6-8 weeks with more than one home port in play, and a series of different itineraries. This avoids the issue NCL had. It was about a year ago that Captain Henry eluded to something of this nature as DCL adds ships. I also would speculate the Dream might be a candidate for this type of activity, as one of the new ship picks up 3-5 day Bahamian and Caribbean itineraries. We have done nearly 30 DCL cruises and variety in itineraries is important to us. DCL knows this but has to balance these types of interests with optimizing their profits.

I would like to come on here and be all smug about guessing the name but let’s face it we have all touted Wish, Imagine and Adventure around for months :P:rotfl2:

The name of the 5th ship is the Disney Wish, Rapunzel will be on the stern. Announced today at the D23 expo. First sailing is in January 2022.

Awesome. One of my favorite names listed. Any mention of who will be in the atrium?

I will add this news to page one.

I just realized how much later the first sailing is compared to the original announcement for Fall 2021! I guess the other two will also be pushed back by a year or so.

Did anyone else notice in the little video clip that when it zoomed out so you could see the top of the ship, there was no aquaduck? I wonder what they are going to replace it with!

My guess is Goofy. (My original thought was Jimminy Cricket for the atrium character) I found this picture on one of my Facebook groups. It was a painting in one of the DCL galleries on the ship about 6 years ago. What is very interesting is even back then, the picture depicts ALL of the current atrium characters in pretty much the same pose as they are ! So they had plans for 6 ships for a LONG time! (number 7 was a surprise even to DCL as it was one that was commissioned by another line and they cancelled it. It got offered to DCL since it was in between the 2 they already ordered.)

I would highly doubt DCL will go to Asia anytime soon, the market there is geared towards gambling trips mostly for adults and since Disney won't have any casinos on the ships it puts them at a marked disadvantage for breaking into that market, that and also the economy in many of the Asian countries is wobbly and may not generate enough revenue to make it worth Disney going there. With the creation of 2 new terminals in Port Canaveral and Miami it looks like DCL is planning on keeping 4 to 5 of the ships in the Caribbean circuit for the long haul. Potentially freeing up the Wonder for West Coast & Mexican Riviera trips with a Hawaii here along with the Summer Alaskan season and home porting in San Diego and Vancouver. And the Magic could add more New York/Canada cruises to their schedule as long as weather permits.
