New Disney promo vs. renting DVC points

I reserved a package w/the new Disney promo today based on resort choice (BC) vs. what I could get for renting DVC points through a "broker." But renting points would've still been *substantially* cheaper, but at a resort that really not interested in staying at. I hope I made the right decision but know I can cancel at no charge if by chance my stay opens up via DVC points. Anyone else in same situation? I'm feeling like I still overspent, ugh!

I am in the opposite end of this :). I am renting DVC points and it's still way cheaper and actually at a resort I want to be at! As long as you are happy I wouldn't worry about it at all!!!pixiedust:

I'm kind of in the same boat too. I'd worked out what I *thought* my discount would be, and it was so little that I didn't really consider it a discount and might not have even bothered calling for the promo. I was looking at a Value and for a $100-$200 more I could potentially rent points at AKL so it seemed an obvious choice except for my complete inexperience with DVC. But today I saw everyone getting great discounts and called about the promo and got a great discount too, which makes the price difference between my Value and AKL DVC much wider.

I think I might stay with my resort this time and do DVC in Fall. That said, it seems free dining is offered a lot in Fall and that could tempt me away from DVC... I'll probably change my mind a million times over the next few weeks!

I would have loved to rent DVC points, but we have the Disney Visa. We're using our rewards points to pay for most of our resort stay. Plus, now we're using a friend as a travel agent so she can get a commission.

Maybe next trip.

What are the best sites to look at for renting DVC points?

I used the dvc rent/trade board. Lots of people like Dave's rentals which can be linked to from the dvc boards here too :).

Thanks for the information.

If you rent points, be sure to understand the terms. Members can make their own terms and often reservations are non-refundable. So if something better comes along later, you may be stuck.
