Has someone actually said that they hate dogs or animals, in either thread? Honest question.

Dan

No, but they sure make it appear that way. That's my point. And since this thread is now going the way of the other one I am done here, too.

And there is nothing wrong with being all over the place. I think there would be stress on either side to be honest.

Either way both sides wants clear expectations and follow through. I'm by nature a general rule follower. But if the rules are inconsistent or unknown it causes me stress in my everyday life. I get why people are concerned with Disney as well on this aspect.

The "yes, but.." allows for someone who may be ok with the new policy (even if only minutely ok with the new policy) but only if there are stipulations in place. And then the specific stipulation (I'm sure as best that the OP of the poll could concisely see from the other thread) of a choice given.

And yes as several of us have mentioned an "Other" choice on the other thread and on this thread allows a person to just be like "these choices don't just fit". But I do understand why you don't feel like "other" fits right now. Wait and see isn't a bad position at all.

When you take other polls for example they may have "on a scale from 1 to 10" with '5' being the understood neutral position but also allows you to provide the strength of your opinion or worded like "what do you feel most fits with how you feel" and then they give a range of answers including 'strongly agree and strongly disagree to also somewhat agree to somewhat disagree and even a neither option'

It wouldn't do too much good if all you were ever given was a 1 or a 10 or a strongly agrees or a strongly disagrees if that didn't match what you actually felt.

Agree! I almost feel like instead of the "yes, but" I'm more of a "no, unless" which I guess could be identified as "other" but I'll still wait and see. I read a post today about Disney needing to "earn their trust" right now due to their own personal experiences, and probably since I'm in my particular situation - locked into a trip with little reasonable recourse, hoping policies/communication gain clarity - and I have experienced recent curveballs from Disney in my last few trips, that's where the "no, unless" is, but unless covers some varied territory! I am also a rule follower!

I voted that I couldn't care less one way or the other, and I truly, me alone, don't care. But I keep in mind that I do not have an allergy or a fear of dogs. If that were the case I'd probably go with one of the 'no' options.

Yes, the "7 hour left alone" thing, and the "No restrictions on size or breed" thing is really puzzling.

Dan
The 7 hour part I agree is puzzling. I have no clue other than picking a random number how they came up with that.

The size and breed isn't as puzzling. I won't get into the breed thing here (I'm also unsure here so forgive me but does Universal have a breed restriction? I really don't know) but on the size aspect it's not a cohesive size restriction at other places from what I've heard. Some are 25lbs and others are 50lbs and Universal's is 75lbs. I'm sure yes Disney could have modeled Universal and said 75lbs but at the same time people would have put up a stink about that too and said that's too large of a dog to be allowed.

I agree. I’m almost afraid to say this because I don’t want to derail the conversation, but I’m personally less worried about size than I am about the breed, but I know that can really be a hot button for some.

No, but the assumption is that if you don't want dogs running around, you must hate dogs. If you don't want hotel rooms to smell like dogs, you must hate dogs. Or some such nonsense.

The problem is, most people being accused of "hating dogs" actually own dogs.

That's why weight restrictions are the way to go. I think the Four Seasons limits this to one dog, 20 lbs. That seems smart to me. It rules out most of the working breeds.

My main concern for this is Disney's apparent disorganization in implementing this. CMs are poorly equipped to handle questions about this new amenity (mostly because there aren't actual answers to some of the questions). This leads me to believe that the enforcement of where the dogs can be and how loud they can be will be lax at best. I also have zero faith in housekeeping's ability to deep clean, given that they don't seem to even be able to regular-clean very well a lot of the time.

I also feel very badly for those who have dog allergies (some of which are life-threatening) or dog phobias. It doesn't seem like all human needs were taken into consideration with this new policy.

Lastly, based on how some people parent their human children, I am led to believe that not all pet owners are responsible. I'm sure most are (same with human children), but it only takes a few irresponsible ones to make things bad for everyone.

I do not hate dogs. I like seeing dogs. But I do not like petting dogs or having dogs jump on/lick me. I'm one of those people who really prefers my own space. In fact, the only humans I will generally touch are my husband and son. I really wouldn't want a friendly dog greeting me at the resort.

The problem I see with this option, which is how things are currently, is that it limits the resorts for people that don't want to be around other peoples dogs at "name your favorite resort".(BTW, I'm not arguing with you, but with this option)

POR is our favorite resort. Our last four trips in a row have been there. Special place for us. We are a family of 5 and are limited in economical options already. We've visited the other moderate resorts that hold a family of five and IMO, they pale in comparison to POR. We would probably stay offsite before staying at a different mod, which is saying a lot for us. To step down to a value resort is more expensive than POR for a family of five.

Even if we weren't a family of five, we've visited every resort on property (Except Wildnerness lodge) and POR is the best for us. There are a couple of the deluxes that I would choose over POR, but the cost premium just isn't worth it.

In my opinion, if Disney modifies the policy so that dedicated buildings, or wings of buildings, are the only rooms for housing dogs at that resort, and the dogs aren't allowed in the general resort walkways, then I don't care which resort they are at because it wouldn't negatively impact me and I don't think they would negatively impact others. This is a win, with no loss, at that point.

Dan
Agree with this also. Just way more room for error. Mainly because you know if someone needs a dog room and the other section is full, or there's a problem with a room, etc, I don't see them turning them away and I see them allowing the dog in another room. They aren't going to turn them away. I honestly don't have a problem with dogs in the resorts as long as they aren't around my room. Seeing them in walkways doesn't bother me. I don't want to hear them or sleep in a bed that they were sleeping in.

Funny you say this because we needed to complain to our neighbor, who had just finished building their house next to us and moved in, about their obnoxiously barking dogs. (A Saint Bernard and black lab). Really loud and for extended periods outdoors.

Her comment, in the most surprised look was “well, our old neighbor loved dogs and didn’t mind the barking!” My wife was the one talking with our neighbor but I wish I would’ve been there to say... “We love dogs too, in fact we own one as you know! Your dogs are simply being a nuisance and obnoxious and you are being inconsiderate. Just because we’re telling you that your dogs are a nuisance doesn’t mean we hate dogs!”

Sadly I agree. Lack of enforcement hasn’t been WDW’s strong suit. Seen it too many times. Anything to keep the guest happy, but many times this is at the expense of other guests.

Not bashing Disney though, still a great place to vacation even so. It’s not a perfect world

Dan

I haven't voted because I'm just not sure. I think I'm on the "no, unless" bandwagon. I think it could be perfectly fine with the proper rules and enforcement, but Disney isn't there yet. I did email them because I have a trip at AoA next month in a family suite (generic booking - no Cars, Nemo or Lion King selected). I love dogs, have owned them in the past and will own more in the future, but am allergic to some dogs. At this point Disney can't guarantee we won't be in a pet-friendly room. They've put in a request that we end up in Nemo or Lion King, but it's just a request. They'll do a deep clean of the room, but I was told it may be late afternoon/early evening before our room is ready for checkin because they clean the carpet and it takes hours to dry. We were hoping for early checkin since our flight lands at 9:15 a.m. I'll be sure to bring allergy meds, but they make me sleepy and dizzy, which I don't think goes well with being in a theme park all day.

So, my world isn't going to end over this, but with a little more thoughtful planning on Disney's part, a lot of the concerns people are voicing could have been non-issues.

While I absolutely adore my dog and dogs in general, I vote no. Years ago I stayed at a pet friendly Kimpton hotel. And while it was clean as can be and I didn't see any traces of past pets in sight, I could still smell them in the rooms and corridors. Which, as previous posters, is a concern because of allergies, among other things. And personally, I don't want to have to keep my dog pent up while I'm out enjoying my day, let alone worry about him/her disturbing others barking and possibly destroying things. He's good at home, but I honestly don't know how he would react if put in the situation.

OMG! I wanted to say that on the other thread, but didn't feel like dealing with the drama of it! I get ppl who have been attacked, but otherwise...
I don't hate animals and have had various pets, including dogs, throughout my life. I don't want to deal with dogs or their oblivious owners on vacation. It isn't hard to understand.

Maybe they should do a dog week? I know during the hurricane they allowed pets. My cousin said the room she checked into was a mess, full of dog hair and it smelled like dog. Mousekeeping had to come and clean her room again! The kicker is she loves dogs and has four of them at home. I don't know if the staff could keep up with having to clean up after the animals.

Right. But there have been many posts on the other thread that were just nasty & it seemed to imply that they hated or very much disliked dogs. That’s who he is referring to & I agreed.

I struggled with a vote but went with I couldn't care less.
All in all I don't care.
I won't be bringing my dog and really, I don't care what others opt to do.
So that's why it's what I went with.
I don't think it's the best idea at first thought but I know it works at Universal so I'm not seeing why it can't work at Disney.

Which is why you won't see us bringing our dog to Disney. Even though I'd love to have one of the cute little Pluto welcome gifts, I'll be honest. Still, not practical. Plus we fly. And it costs less to board our dog at home than to pay the pet fee to Disney. All reasons why we won't bring a dog to Disney. And why I think most won't. I really think people are freaking out over something very few are going to do.
I won’t be bringing mine either, first of all they’d have to fly cross country. Not happening. And I agree, WDW is not the type of vacation where you’d want to bring a dog.
But if I lived a few hours away and drove, and didn’t have anyone come stay with my dogs, I would maybe consider it.

I don't understand weight limits. Small dogs pee like crazy! My moms yorkie pees like every hour. My larger dog can and will hold it for a very long time. If it's about hotel damage that would be more of a concern for the owners as I'm sure they would be liable for damages. If it's about larger dogs being more dangerous I've seen chihuahuas that I would consider pulling a gun on. Lol

Chihuahuas are the worst.
