New Disney Mugs now validated stay

Nigel, have they got the hot choccie machine hooked up to the new system? We were asking about it in another thread. Please say yes :hyper:

I'm a POR now but I don't think the coffee and chocolate machines are linked to the RFID system. It seems to just be for the soda. We had to exchanges our mugs yesterday but they let us keep our old ones. God knows how we will get 8 home!

The hot choc and both coffee dispensers are still a free for all

Okay here is a question. What is "Days consist of one calendar day mean"? I am going next spring from Thur evening to Sat evening. If I bought it late at night on Thursday would that count as one of my 2 "days" and it would switch to day 2 at midnight?

I would guess it means actual days and not a 24 hour period, so in your case you may be required to cover the 3 days; even though you are only using a few hours for the first evening.
It is a similar scenario with the park tickets. Some people have reported in getting an EXTRA day more that the ticket states.

If bought it Thursday that would be day 1, after midnight it would switch to day 2. As it works on dates not time.

To get Thursday to Saturday you would need to purchase a 3 day mug.

Thank you Nigel for the hot choc update :thumbsup2 I'm happy now - purple mugs and hot chocolate on tap - so easy to please ::yes::

Yes, as I understand it, it's not a good idea to get your mug late in the day if purchasing a set number of days because the 'day' expires at midnight. So if you buy one at 1.30 pm you get 30 minutes use out of it for that day.

It could be worth looking at just buying a regular cup for soda as you get one drink plus 2 refills. That said, if you were going to buy a mug for 2 days and want it for that first evening it only costs another $1 to add the day if you were going to get it anyway.

We are staying at Pop starting this Saturday. We plan on going to POR for a show next week. Will we be able to use our mugs from Pop at POR? I know the standard answer is yes, you can use them at all resorts, but if my mug from Pop does not have the RFID chip (because Pop is not in the testing phase), and the machines at POR require the chip, how will it work?

You could go over to POR and get your mugs there while you are staying at POP. That way you get the new mugs.

Oh you're just the hero today!!! :rotfl: DD finds it hilarious how excited I am about a purple mug. I've been saying they need to have one for years and finally ...... :hyper:

I am so happy about these new mugs! Now we won't have to pay the ridiculous prices for fizzy drinks at other resorts when visiting!

Of course, we'd never pay for refillable mugs- that would cost our family of five almost $100! We have the Deluxe Dining Plan and are looking forward to our complimentary mugs. :goodvibes

Only down side with practicality is having to carry your mugs around with you. It's something we don't do, however we do sometimes fill our mugs, take them to our room and decant into empty water bottles and then head out for the parks.

I never really thought of what it would cost for a family of 5  We have, and would still, pay for the mugs. I think the resort you stay at/proximity to the food court, length of stay and what and how much you drink has a bearing on whether there is value in them or not. I drink a lot of coffee and average at least 2 cups in the morning before hitting the parks and if we return to the resort while the food court is still open or stop back to change bags, we always grab a drink or two while there. There are many situations however where it would not be a good value.

We are a family of 3 and it would cost us $57 for mugs now :scared1:

We had the free mugs with DDP last time and they got used twice :rolleyes1 We always stay in a one bed villa at a DVC resort so have a full size fridge and I just stock it with bottles. Last trip we spent less on cold drinks in the room than one mug would have cost :thumbsup2

I agree it does depend on how easy it is to get to a refil station

We were at the beach club last year and our room was a short stroll to the food court so the girls went every night for a hot chocolate before bed. They actually went on their own to get all 4 drinks and enjoyed this sense of freedon and being "grown up" as much as any attraction Disney had to offer! :lmao:

This year we're trying OKW but I've heard you can be quite a distance from the refil stations so maybe they won't get used as much this year?

We're back to the Beach Club again next year and the first thing the girls asked was can we do the drinks again!

We had the mugs as part of our free DDP package last year and will get them again next year. We were staying at The Yacht Club so the boys went down to The Beachclub Marketplace every morning for hot chocolates and coffees and every evening for hot chocolates for all 4 of us. We also used them every day for sodas went we went back to the hotel for afternoon pool time so I think we definately got very good value from our free $72 mugs :goodvibes:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Do agree distance is big thing. We are at Yacht Club now and it's a pain to walk all way to marketplace sometimes. It's much easier when Hurricane Hannah's is open but there you have a ton of wasps crawling all over machine to contend with

Last night the drink dispensers at HH were closed so I asked at the bar and they filled it for me. We've used the place in the lobby on a morning too which is quite handy.
