NEW Disney Gift Card Deals and More.

So I purchased a $100 DGC getting the $10 TGC. But even though it said a 5% savings it came out to $95.50. This happen to anyone else? I have 2 Circle accounts and it happened on each account. I was able to make 2 purchases on one account and 1 on the other. But now I am getting an error on both accounts that their was an issue processing the payment.

Same for me online, only got 4.5% discount. Odd.

This was discussed when the offer was first released. The 5% is calculated off $90. They deduct the $10 GC incentive off the total.

@Jimsig

This has been discussed earlier on the thread.

They are giving you the 5% on the gift card which is being charged $90.
You are then getting charged for the $10 Target which the red card discount doesn't apply to.

So you are getting 5% but off of $90.
It just looks like 4.5% because you are buying that "free" gift card that can't be discounted.

Jinx 😉

For those that consolidate gift cards, I have a question.

If I transfer a balance from Card A to Card B and subsequently have an issue with card B, will I need to provide proof of transactions and recipts from Card A since the balance was transferred from there? Or just card B showing the transfer from Card A? If the former, I don't see any value in transferring the balance after a trip since I will need to hold on to all of the receipts anyway. Just use it and close it out. Otherwise I prolong the potential pain. If the latter, I'll always transfer to a new card when I get back so I no longer need to worry about providing support for the old one.

Once the balance is 0, ho long do you keep the old transactions and receipts for potential issues (aside from any reason to keep them for the actual trip expenses)? Immediately, or do you hang on for a little while? I've got a bunch of old cards and receipts I should probably clean up.

Thanks

I am going to assume the error processing the payment is probably a problem independent of the 4.5% issue.

As others have explained, Target is actually charging you in two transactions for what is truthfully only one transaction so that they don't have to pay out that 50 cents of cash back. Meaning, charging you first for a purchase of a $100 DGC minus a $10 Target GC (you'll see this appear as a "discount" on your invoice), and then giving you 5% CB only on the net $90. They will then re-charge you in a second, separate transaction for the $10 Target GC, meaning you have still paid the full $100 and the promo card is immediately loaded to your account to spend "again".

For the Target Circle deal, do you get a $10 Target gift card for each $100 that you spend (i.e. $100 in Target gift cards when purchasing $1000 in Disney gift cards)?
From my experience you must buy each in a separate transactions. $1000 in one transaction (if even doable) will net you only one $10 GC. I did 5 x $100 (a mix of Disney and others, but all part of the promo) and got 5 x $10 Target GCs loaded to my account almost immediately after each transaction went through.

Generally, I accumulate over 200 to 300 cards every year so I always consolidate them as there is no point to bring 20 $50 cards with me.

Well, I have never had a problem others have had to produce the receipts for all cards linked.

In order to consolidate my above example of 20 $50 cards you will have many links and this is why I notate that I transferred from card one to card two etc. and have the receipts notated for each location transaction number and date that they were purchased from just in case.

Once the balance is zero of all linked cards, you can then get rid of the receipts as long as you don’t anticipate any returns to the card or want to transfer to one again (plastic or card that plays nicely with Apple wallet comes to mind). I generally don’t keep the receipts but again write them down on the spreadsheet as receipt paper fades overtime.

I've never had an issue although reading your message maybe I should be more careful??

Once I've transferred to the new card, I erase records of the old one. I've found otherwise I'm not positive if I transferred it or not. I'm not sure what the old receipt would do for you though--you can prove you spent xx on a gift card, but then the documentation would show that it was emptied. Whether or not it shows where the funds I went, I don't think a receipt from an empty gift card would help much.
