Update, I finished out the 5x $100 spend with another $100 DGC and then 2 x $100 Lowe's GCs (had to let DH in on the fun at some pointI can confirm that as of now, the Target spend to $500 extra bonus promotion is stacking very nicely with the spend $100 on GCs and get $10 Target gift card promotion.
Here's how I have stacked so far:
1x $100 DGC (and 5% with Target Red Debit) = $10 digital Target GC instantly + $100 qualifying towards $500 spend
2 x $50 DGC (and 5% with Target Red Debit) = $10 digital Target GC instantly + $100 qualifying towards $500 spend.
). I was scratching my head though because each $100 spend was ringing up at $95.50 (4.5% off) with my Red Card. After my first 4 orders had been placed, I called Target and they explained that they take the inferred value of the $10 promo GC off the top of the order when they do their calculations of the RedCard discount ... thereby making each effective order value $90, and my RedCard discount only calculated off that $90 (5% of $90 being the $4.50 that was taken off). This to me seems pretty deceptive, and not accurate anyway - they aren't actually taking the $10 off the order (indeed, by their logic, I am actually getting a $110 GC order for $100, meaning my net price is still $100), the $10 promo GC is not a cash discount that I could apply elsewhere, etc. I wrangled with the guy over it (more for principle than because I was dead set on putting $2 back in my pocket) and after some doing he offered to credit me an additional ... FORTY FIVE CENTS on each of my (to that point) 4 orders. Not even the paltry 50 cents per order that I was owed, but an additional .5% back on the $90 that Target considered to be the actual value of each order. At this point I was incredulous, and asked him if he truly intended to stiff my $2 refund by twenty cents, less than a quarter. He confirmed that yes he was indeed planning to do so, but in my case he would adjust it up to the full $2, as a one time courtesy. It felt less than courteous.
But it does potentially explain what others have reported, that their RedCard discounts are not showing up as a true 5% on some transactions - I have to assume this is usually happening when a "buy one GC get a $10 Target GC" promo is added.
