How would you play this? I got an offer on my CC for a $45 statement credit if I spend $500 online between now and October 14. I have accounts with both Sam's and BJ. I don't want to go too far over the $500 mark because that eats into percentages.

I thought about getting 3 of BJ's $150 cards which adds up to $425.97 and then just paying full price for a $75 GC or 2 $25 GCs elsewhere. But I don't like buying any GC for full price if I can avoid it. Then I thought about getting one $500 GC from BJ for $474.49 but then I have to figure out what to order elsewhere to total $25.51 or slightly more. My brain is aching from trying to math the math.

if you absolutely want to get to $500 as close as possible,

At Bjs
1x $25 = 24.49
1 x $100 = 94.99
2 x $50 = (not on extra sale) $96.98, you'd be paying $2 more for this $100 over the 100 denomination to get above the $500 mark
2 x $150 = 283.98
Total = 500.44
- $45 = $455.44 for $525. 13.25%

So, not much better than the 13% you got above

I think most people here can easily get Disney gift cards at a minimum of close to 10% off so these Dining Dollars aren't doing much. Also, in your example above of buying a $400 gift card, the other $340 that you are paying for, you are paying full price when you probably would have got it for at least 10% off elsewhere. Unless I'm missing something, I see almost no savings from them.
Well the difference is that the dining dollars were "free" with each ticket bought from UT. But as someone else mentioned, UT is higher than Unlocked Magic. However, unless Unlocked Magic is having one of their sales the difference isn't as drastic. For example, a 7 day park hopper that begins 9/20 is $628.19 (before tax) at UM and same is $631.73 (with the Mousesaver's discount) at UT. So yes, you'd be paying an extra $3.54 (plus tax) per ticket.

However, you get $20 per ticket bought in dining dollars that will reduce the cost of a DGC dollar for dollar. So in the example you mentioned, you'd pay $10.62 more for 3 tickets, but save $60 on the gift cards. So the net is just under $50. But you're right, since one can reasonably find DGC's at 10% off elsewhere, the net becomes just under $10. But that's still $10 more and without any additional work finding the 10% off.

However, if UM is having a sale the savings are wiped out and you're better off just to go through them.

Just got $20 off an order of $250 or more from BJ's today, ordered 2 - $150 Disney gift cards for $263 before the $20 off, pretty nice discount 19% off plus I used my Southwest Card for the points on the purchase so almost 20%. Wish you could get the 5% off with the BJ's Mastercard, but they won't let you.

Is there something I need to do to get a coupon? I haven’t received a single one since I signed up for BJs like this.
I don’t have the answer unfortunately but I can empathize - joined in May and have not received a single one of these. I did go in store and buy some produce to make sure it knew I was active, still nothing.

You sure that's right? 2x the 150s is $283.98 right now with no coupon. $263.98 would have been with the $20 coupon off, just over 13% discount. If somehow you got it to $243.98 , good for you

I've actually done in store shopping as well and yep nothing. I don't Just buy disney gift cards like I do at Sams club
I find they come in cycles. Last time others got something, I got nothing. I must spend too much there because I never get the $10 off $100 ones, always the big dollar ones like $15 off $250. It's better than nothing, but never super great. Maybe it's zip code related?

No BJ’s coupon for me either, but I went ahead and took the deal on three $50 cards for $141.99 and paid with a credit card currently earning 8.25% cashback. Total savings 13.15%.

If I get lucky and a coupon comes along, I’ll buy another one.

Is the cycle more than once a year? I’ve been a member since last October and never received a coupon.

@eticketplease

I tried to use my BJs $10 off $100 today but it would not add to the cart with the $150 DGC that's currently on sale for $141.99. Here's what I noticed. When DGCs are now added to your cart, the "instant savings" discount is coded as its own coupon. Maybe since that's now considered a "coupon" they won't let you stack the discount with the extra $10 coupon?

Edited to add: I called and had a rep on the line WHILE I placed the transaction. It never did show up, but he still helpfully refunded my $10 back to my credit card. Looks like this may be a new and annoying feature of these BJs coupons.

Yup that coupon was showing for me yesterday as well but it didn’t work when I made sure nothing had any coupons or special savings either.

Glad they gave the credit back to you at least.

What card? Promo or minimum spend return?

I wondered about this too!

I used a card I am working towards a bonus on, but may have changed my mind based on that return 🤣
BofA Customized Cash Rewards is offering 6% cashback (normally 3%) for one year for purchases in your choice category. One of the choices is online purchases. The boost for Platinum Honors brings the cashback to 8.25% on up to $2,500 per quarter for the first year.

You are correct! I didn't realize the $20 off coupon was already taken off the total when I purchased..... I'm use to having to wait a month or 2 for BJ's to add the rewards to my account that I didn't even look. :magnify: I just looked at the total. So I got roughly 13%, which is still pretty good.

Very nice! I have that card and met the bonus on "office supplies," but that's a great use of the rewards 👍
