I didn't think I'd ever have to post about trading on the Dis being less than fun these days, but here I am! I've had traders cancel at the last minute, and I've no problem with that, but it seems lately we've had an influx of new members not following through with trades and not notifying who they are to trade with of their change of heart. Is it possible for the Dis to come up with some basic guidelines regarding trades? Simple little rules, such as answer your private messages when asked for dates and times? I have no problem with anyone not willing to complete a trade, but I find it rude to not let the person they are dealing with KNOW they aren't willing to complete the trade.
Mods? Is there anything we can do about this? It's happened to me twice in just the past few days.
Any other suggestions we can leave for our newest members?

I have also noticed this of late. We are thrilled to have a lot of new blood in here lately but, this site is much more community oriented than most and I hope some will start to feel that groove and get into it.

Autowins aren't autowins and people are accepting offers and then not following through, just bad form.

I welcome one and all here, I just hope we can begin to expect a deal is a deal once again.

Ah yes, Captain Hook.

xD

I have a trade that a person has not responded to as well. >_<

I've gotta say it's not only new people. And I think there should be a rule against conditional offers. Such as "If this one falls through I may be able to offer this". And I get the whole pm thing though. If someone sends someone an offer in a pm and you don't like it how hard is it to send back a simple "No thank you" or "I've already traded the item"? :confused3 But let me ask you this...Do you feel it is right for someone to back out of a trade after weeks and weeks of not being able to meet up?

I think you have every right to cancel a trade at any time before you meet. It's the non-communication that bothers me most. I won't hold anything longer than a few days, never would I let it ride for weeks.

I agree it is bad form.

Unlike other boards, we don't have a reputation monitor on people who trade. But in most cases, not all unfortunately, words in text speak volumes in regards to honesty. In addition, we have seen some people who seek attention or popularity to only damage credibility. Sad fact but it is true. Hopefully, these individuals see these shortcomings fast.

Hopefully these people will learn that word does get around. Although, it may already be too late for a few of them to save their reputation.

Do I ask friends how their trade went? Yes, all the time.
Do my friends ask me the same? Yes, all the time.

I've noticed it too. There's also been alot of unnecessary posts on all the threads in the trade board.

I've had that happen to me, but I don't even trade all that often. I agree that someone can change their mind, and it's disrespectful to back out without telling the other trader.

I think a copy of this thread should be on the trade boards, too.

we are trying to crack down on that by the way llama :thumbsup2

im guilty of autos but i also dont think ppeople should agree to a trade and then not reply for 2 months you should check DIS often if you have agreed to a trade

I am new to VMK but very old to the DIS. ;)

I have only made about a half dozen trades on the DIS VMK board, but I also have already encountered someone here who did not follow through with the trade. We agreed on the trade thread and then all my PMs to set up a meet went unanswered.

And yes, this person is still trading here. :sad2: I looked through the guidelines sticky, but there did not seem to be any recourse, so I could do nothing.

As a long time pintrader, I was quite surprised by this behavior and situation. This is not how pintrading works. Sure, sometimes people change their minds about a pin trade, but then they usually tell their trading partner that they are backing out.

Unfortunately there is no recourse. I just hope people realize that reputation is everything on the boards. Word of mouth travels fast in a small community like this. Everyone should be aware we only permit trading with 1 account also so once that reputation suffers it is not easy to rebuild it.

Sometimes things happen that are out of our control which is acceptable (at least to me). I've have this happen before.

Its the times when trades are accepted and PM's are exchanged and then missed meetings or no word till quite later on that makes me not want to trade except with known traders. This is especially true when the items being traded are expensive and doubly true when items are not something you would buy. In essence, I'm fulfilling a need of somebody else because I want something of theirs but the item I'm trading I don't need.

Also, perhaps we need a clearer definition for rare and retired. I have seen many newer trade threads that claim an item is rare when that item is only a couple months old.

heh, thats vmk for you. Rare is rare the second its no longer available except by trade. Doesn't matter if there are 1,000,000,000 in the game :rotfl:

I hate to say it but it is buyer beware. Know the products or consult your friends as to if the item is rare or not. Your interpretation of rare or retired is certainly different from another who could be in the game only a few months.

One of my biggest pet peeves is when an individual makes offers on more than one trade thread, and even though I have accepted the offer the individual will not follow through until they have heard whether their other offers, which I assume are less than what has been offered to me, is accepted or not.

To clarify I have no problem with someone making offers on more than one trade thread for the same item, I just think that if they offer on 5 different trade threads they should be prepared to complete all offers that are accepted.

:thumbsup2 Agreed.

It would make one assume that the trader has more than one of that item, right?
