New Contemporary Resort Monorail/Incredibles Room Theme Announced - With Pictures

Half of you complaining that it's too sterile. Half of you complaining that there's too much IP. They just can't win, can they?
The deluxe resorts traditionally incorporated a lot of theming without using any IP. The heavy-handed use of IP was traditionally reserved for values. Deluxe level theming is supposed to be more attuned to the overall theme of the resort, well-researched & conceived to evoke the sense of a specific time and place in the real world: early 1900's New Jersey Boardwalk; Victorian-era Florida; early 1900's northwestern national park, etc., not a Disney character or movie.

Disney has apparently been trying to reduce the differences between the different resort levels, and it isn't a good trend imo. Leads to unpleasant hybrids like this in terms of theme, to less luxury at the deluxes, and to higher prices at the values.

Anyone have thoughts on the area under and around the beds. It that carpeting or just patterned flooring aka Poly or Yachtclub?

Not a fan. It isn't so much the retro-contemporary look (very pop century to me), it's the fact it's so bright and busy. I don't mind the incredibles theming but overall it just looks cheap. It also seems non-functional. A couch is nice but not if you cannot see the TV and as so many people have pointed out, there's no counter space. It just does not look like a $600 a night room.

I also think Poly's new rooms are a litle too busy, but I completely prefer them to this. It just screams pop century and cheap to me.

While it would be easy for Disney to charge people for this sort of behavior, I wonder how long these pillows last before people start thinking they’re a nice souvenir to take home (aka, steal) and Disney replaces them all with generic pillows.

They'd handle it the same way they do on the Disney Cruise lines. You would get a charge on your credit card for the pillow. :)

That was helpful. Thanks for posting it!

Now having seen the super-fast walk-through video in that Instagram post, I want to stay there even less than before. There's hardly any counter space in the room other than in the bathroom. This would absolutely not work for my family. I suppose they think that everyone's going to be living out of their suitcase and pulling their luggage out from under the bed a couple of times a day.

There isn't even a pack & play in the miniscule closet.

The room looks and feels an awful lot like some of the dumb-looking Motel 6 redo's that I've seen lately. I can stomach staying in that sort of room for way less money, but $700-$900/night? Forget it. It looks cheap. It's not a room that I'd want to relax in after a tiring and sweaty morning at MK.

Clearly, I'm not in their demographic, I suppose, for this room because I absolutely do not want to stay there. And you KNOW that they'll end up redoing the BLT rooms eventually to look the same way. So glad that we aren't DVC owners at BLT! If I was a BLT owner, I'd be frustrated.

I think that our splurge deluxe resort for our next stay might end up being WL, Beach Club, or Riviera instead.

Also, who's the idiot in marketing & interior design who thought this was a good idea?

Any reason you just continue to be repeatedly, aggressively negative, over and over, in this thread?

Nine different posts from you talking about how terrible it is. People get it: You don’t like it. Move on.

The resort is themed to be modern and sleek. This is a nice updated look with small touches of IP. If they were going for a retro look, then it wouldn't be the "contemporary," now would it?
And those comparing it to the Moana rooms, these rooms look just like them but with different wallpaper and furniture textures.

People have become very entitled and want SPECIFICALLY what they and only they want. Anything less is the biggest affront to the world and unthinkable – and they’ll let you know, loudly, how much they hate it. Exhausting.

As a parent to three tween/teens I love the couch. Extra sitting space to lounge. Devices have mostly replaced TV watching. We are fans of carry out but lack a place to eat in the room. The table helps address that. We live out of suitcases to help keep the room tidy. Pushing them under the bed when not needed works great for us. We are huge fans of the YC room set up. This room seems pretty close except for one drawback...no privacy between the shower/toilet and sinks.

Hmm - I keep looking for pics that give the complete layout of the bathroom/toilet area… I haven’t been able to find a view that paints the full layout/orientation for me, have you?

The old CR rooms did have a separate toilet room - that’s one thing I’ve been hoping hasn’t changed.

Feels like The Jetson's to me lol. I LOVE IT:love:

I think that’s the inconsistency for me: the Futuristic elements mixed in à la The Jetsons or Spaceship Earth with the rounded airplane/spacecraft design around the window.

The Contemporary Resort’s design and windows are modern, clean, straight, and sleek.

For reference, this is the Parr Family home in Incredibles II, which is Mid-Century Modern (I spy the sofa). They could’ve pulled this off without the splashes of IP you can purchase at Target. Very generic. Then I would’ve liked it.

Why do you care?

Because I'd like to read this thread and would prefer not to have to see the same poster every other post complaining about a new reason the room is so egregious to her?

Why do YOU care why I care?

That's what we liked!! Then there could be someone in the shower/toilet area behind a closed door and someone in the sink area - at least that's what initially drew us to WL - and I know the Poly didnt have those so it was never on our list of resorts... :(

I think that is where the puzzle picture is from with the towels on the wall. I doubt they opened up that wall leaving the toliet and a sink separate.
