The deluxe resorts traditionally incorporated a lot of theming without using any IP. The heavy-handed use of IP was traditionally reserved for values. Deluxe level theming is supposed to be more attuned to the overall theme of the resort, well-researched & conceived to evoke the sense of a specific time and place in the real world: early 1900's New Jersey Boardwalk; Victorian-era Florida; early 1900's northwestern national park, etc., not a Disney character or movie.Half of you complaining that it's too sterile. Half of you complaining that there's too much IP. They just can't win, can they?
Disney has apparently been trying to reduce the differences between the different resort levels, and it isn't a good trend imo. Leads to unpleasant hybrids like this in terms of theme, to less luxury at the deluxes, and to higher prices at the values.
