I just got a notice today that the annual fee for the RBC WestJet CC will be increasing from $119 to $139. If you do not use the companion flight you will now only get 2 lounge passes from the previous Four passes. You also must spend $5,000/year to be eligible for a companion flight. RBC is tightening the rules

I gave up on WestJet when they pulled out of London. It was nice to travel to/from home, even if it meant that gawd awful walk in Terminal 3. I loved the companion fare and used it regularly. :(

They are giving me more and more reasons not to fly with them. Will probably still keep the card for now, but I already decided this year to only use them as a last resort. Had 3 trips this year, all with Delta.

It’s still worth it to me for the free checked bag.
This is the only benefit they haven’t cut yet, while simultaneously raising the fee. I’m pretty unhappy about it all but in reality, the companion pass was really worth very little. So much of a ticket’s price is tax and fees, which were always still payable, and they weren’t applicable to fare sales or deals. Still the less-for-more scheme is disheartening.

The last two years I couldn't use my companion fare because the price of the fare before taxes was less than the price of the voucher. After they cut a bunch of their east coast flights I gave up and cancelled this year.

The companion voucher took a significant hit in value a couple of years ago as well, when they disallowed using it for code-shared flights.

I had this card years ago, does anyone know if you are allowed to get it again for the bonuses? I need to book flights from Ottawa to Vancouver next summer so wondering if it’s worth it

Hi Hon
I tried researching an answer and was unable to find one.
I honestly would just call my local RBC branch and have them put you through to the credit card Mastercard company and ask them.

I just got an email stating that I can now (Nov) use my companion voucher for other things.
This has an advantage as I haven't used mine in a few years.
Not much in $ value ,,I think 50$ but every little bit helps.

Good luck
