New CM stuff

To answer the origianl question - if you scrap right to the page you have to go in order - but if you 'wallpaper' you do not have to -
- I keep one refill page at my scrap desk - and I cut the paper to the same size. I do my layout - then after a month or so when they all stack up I go put them into the albums - the best part is when I find that I 'forgot' something and need to get another page in there - it isn't a big deal to pull up the wallpapered page and move it - just add more tape runner to tha back!

KUDOS to you maggie -

I am a CMC and I love other stuff too
it is not a matter spending more money (I have a total of 28 CM Premiere albums - believe me I am not afraid to spend $as a lot of the dis scrappers know) I have a HUGE drawer full of extra tape runners and I have a ton or refills and tools...

But CM is actually geared towards 'getting the pages done fast' so that you use up product faster therefore needing to purchase more...'
They don't want you to spend days on a page - as I like to do sometimes (sometimes I go 'back to basics' to get some done faster')

so where the he-double hockey sticks- do I fit in
A CMC on the Dark Side

Thanks cobbler
but I won't be able to use the blade I have from CM it is a a rotary blade that makes a fancy cut? also is it attached or 2 pieces like the old style cutter? Does it have a cutting blade like the fiskar one? SImilar to the circle CM cutters? you the red green and blue ones? Or is a rotory?

oh and for the comments made about people who don't use CM don't care about their books, that is a very unfair and harsh response. I take a lot of pride and time picking out my items, working on my pages. Also if it is so terrible why continue using the books you have? Why not sell them on ebay and go to all CM? I think this is why people have such a hard time with CM it isn't always the consultants. I had a wonderful CMC she helped me so much getting started. Also spent a ton of money too! But felt it was worth it. But I found with my style and need for everything to be in order but would get bored very quickly doing the same theme all the time I got very frustrated. Plus I hated the white back ground. But didn't like cutting down all of my paper. I don't think all the other companies would be so popular if they were proven unsafe. Magazines sell this stuff and could have a lot of problems down the road.......
Plus the biggest thing that I jsut don't understand people have been saving memorbilia (sp) and putting pictures in a book have been around long before CM and as many have said are in great shape. I personally have one. It has to be about 50 years old! We also have some very old photos of my great grandmother. Again in very good shape. I think they found it in a bible.
So to me everythign is out there for each of us. You dont' want to use metal or post bound that is great. Glad there is a company that will provide the products you need.
Also there is metal in CM books It is what holds the plastic strap hinge. Is that totally acid free? if so how did they make it that way?
I don't want to argue over this. I think that it is wonderful there are so many different products to try and choose from. I personally would love to CM offer a true 12x12 top loading page system. I love the look and feel of their albums. And now that I hear they are making paper large enough to wall paper it wouldn't surprise me if down the road they offer a top loading system.
JMPO!

oooohhh
and I have to say the #1 reason i love CM -
I like all my bindings to match on the shelf :)
I want to line them all up - color coded for events and kids and have them look perfect (I am not to anal am I !)

#2 - I love the weight and feel of the albums.

I have biought others for gifts and don't have a problem with them - just my type a thing! ;)

For those of you who's consultants don't let you buy the coordinator or MKC gifts, please don't be upset we them. We are really not supposed to give them away. It's one of your incentives for people to have classes and help spread the word. In addition, CM does not do sales tax on them. Technically, if your CMC is selling them, she should be filling out forms and sending in extra taxes on them.

I'd never report anyone for that or anything, but also not something I'd do, because the tax man would catch up to me. That's just my luck!

Hmmmm....would this count in Oregon???? There is no sales tax here. And it isn't something she does often; I think because I ordered about $300 in stuff she figured that was practically like a party anyway...I don't want to be "naughty."

My comments are only in regards to my experiences with people who badmouth CM products - I didn't say that anyone who doesn't use CM doesn't care about their albums as that would be a stupid thing to say. I also use other quality products as well. In my personal experience - and I can only speak for myself - the people who I have found to badmouth CM products (whether in person, or on the Internet) base their judgments of CM on the following: too expensive, too simplistic, etc... I actually read on another message board today that those of us who use CM products (whether they be tools or their scrapbooking style) are "...ignorant & simple." Yikes!

Sorry if anyone misunderstood my comments, such is the nature of Internet message boards. Since I was making a personal statement based on my experiences, that is all that is relevant to the discussion - it would be ignorant & judgmental of me to make a sweeping statement about scrappers who don't use CM products - I am not this kind of person. I was merely commenting on my experiences thus far as a relatively new scrapper, and the people who I have encountered who don't use CM products or badmouth the quality, don't for the most part put as much care into longevity as I seem to do. In fact, on one of the other scrapper message boards that I belong to, someone just today said I was too anal because I asked a question about "photo safe" products. She basically said that I was brainwashed by CM & she doesn't really care if her books don't last that long as she just likes to complete her layouts and she doesn't care about what she puts on her pages in regards to preservation as what is most important to her is the overall look. I am quickly learning that everyone has their own scrapping style, and this includes how long books last for and what purpose their books serve.

In regards to replacing products, do you read any other scrapping message boards on the Internet? There are whole posts about problems with Fiskars products (I just returned my 2nd punch to Michael's tonight), especially trimmers cutting crooked - yup, mine did that too (only use it now for cards), as well as various other adhesives, punches, pens, etc... I didn't say that CM products are the only high quality products out there, but in my city of Ontario, Canada, they are the best. Perhaps you all have some other high quality products in the US that we don't have here in Canada, so you are lucky that way in regards to more selection.

Again, not trying to cause trouble or judge anyone, as I was only commenting on my personal experiences with this subject.

Hope I didn't confuse people too much. MKC gifts are for people who spend a lot (fancy square maker, the pink CCS patterns, etc.). So if you're spending $300, you should get a gift, although your CMC does not have to offer that program.

If your state does not have sales tax, then what I posted does not matter.

What I was trying to say, was that CM automatically charges sales tax to MI CMCs. I did forget that some states you can do you own. However, my thought was that CM charges me sales tax for retail price on regular items that we are supposed to sell. Now that I think more about it, I do not know what happens with business enhancers. They may charge us tax as the end user. I'd have to look into it to make sure that the proper sales tax was being paid. Given that my clients like earning things that can't be purchased, I'll stick with the recommended way.

As for the metal components, I have never seen anything against metal in your books. My knowledge of chemistry tells me that there is no acid in metal, so it should not hurt your photos. I've never heard otherwise.

One last thing that was posted before. If you go back further in history, paper was made differently. In more recent times, they started producing it differently to make it cheaper. That's when acids came more into play (don't remember about lignen). So, that is why photos from our grandparents age are fine and newer ones, especially in magnetic albums, can damage photos.

spinning- you have the 12" pattern and teh antique and/or arabesque blades? You can use the red, green, and blue blades with that too.

As for the new trimmer, it is not rotary. It has a blade more like the red..., but not exactly.

I hope I've answered the questions that I can. Sorry if I confused anyone.

I love, love, love CM products too; but I also go to the scrapbook store and buy some papers and stickers to enhance. I also get tired of the CM is the ONLY way to go attitude. My CMC is not like that, but I know the spiel and it bugs me. I just have learned from my own experience that CM stuff is pretty high quality- I like investing the money in the albums and tools cause I know they will last. I enjoy their stickers and papers, but there just isn't as much to choose from as the scrapbook store. I don't enjoy fibers and lots of the fancy extras- too fussy for my tastes, so CM suits me just fine. I do enjoy dressing up my pages though with different patterns of paper, doing interesting things with the punches, etc.

I am finding I don't have set colors of albums that I like- I'm too fickle! From 1995-2002 I did top loading albums (non-CM) and those range in mostly blues and greens. In CM I have a cranberry Disney album, two Tanzanite albums for 2003, two plum albums for 2004, a sapphire album for DS#1's school stuff, a Blush album for DD on the way, two champagne albums already bought for 2005, and a cream album for my wedding proofs (I had already done my wedding album in a CTMH album). I really am prone to the purple colors, so I suppose in 2006 I will go back to the Tanzanite; but they will most likely introduce some new shade that I will *have* to have! :teeth:

YIKES!!!!!!!!!!!! :confused3

I didn't mean for this thread to go this way! I just wanted to share my excitment about my new paper cutter and all the cool new paper and stickers I like!

hey julianne, I'm glad you are excited about all your new stuff! :) I know exactly how you feel.

tiger926, where in ontario are you? I grew up in rockcliffe park, ottawa, ontario. It's a nice place to live. Went to rockcliffe park elementary and queen elizabeth middle school and then lisgar. (where they thought we were too excitable and painted the cafeteria pink to keep us calm)

Can someone tell me what LSS means?? Is it local supply store?

lss means local scrapbook store. maggie

thank you....I just had to confirm. So does anyone have a store other than Michael's or AC Moore to recommend?? I just love spending money ;) :teeth:

I live in Windsor, which is across from Detroit. I have always wanted to visit Ottawa (especially since tulips are my fav flower!), but we are too busy vacationing to Disney these days! Don't shop in the states much, but I have visited Joanne's, Michael's & Target for scrapbooking supplies & I found that the prices at both craft stores were pretty comparable to here (too high in my opinion, especially Michael's!), but Target was reasonably priced. Scrapbooking has become a big hobby here since our Michael's store opened about 1 year ago, plus we have some excellent scrapbooking stores, and of course, Creative Memories consultants.

I love scrapbooking as I just started last year after my first baby (a daughter) was born. Currently I am scrapping our Disney vacation from last year, but I must finish soon as we have our first DVC vacation coming up in March, and our 2nd one in July. I am now working on our cruise layouts and my new CM stuff (haven't purchased their albums yet, but love their stickers and of course their tools) is working out wonderfully (love that trimmer!), but I also love the Sandylion line of Disney stickers, papers & coordinating albums.

I think I have the arabeque blade. it is in a black plastic thing. It fits in the groves on the ruler part. Then I have the 12 inch straight edge and then it has another part on it that has a wavey curve and another style curve. It is still usable. It broke in two but not so I can't use it. You use the cutting mat with it.

I may have to take a look at this new one.

I highly recommend Hobby Lobby (if you have one in your area). They have good prices anyway, but have weekly specials too. This often includes stickers, scrapbooks, paper, etc. at 40%-50% off. Like this week:

stickers- 40% off
Xyron (machines and refills)- 30% off
paper (packages and by the sheet)- 40% off
albums and refill pages- 40% off (I think!)

I also like Joann. They have the 40% coupon every couple of weeks if you sign up for their mailing list.

Here in my area, we also have a store called Memories and another called Archivers. I think both are national chains. They are great too, but more expensive than places like Joann, Michaels, etc.

I keep hearing about this AC Moore place. We don't have those here. :guilty: What is it like? Is it all craft stuff like Michaels or is it a store more like Target? :confused3

I was reading your post and thinking "Sounds just like where I live"...you have Archivers, and Memories, but no AC Moore. Then I read you were from Georgia. That explains it, that's were I am too. Are you in the Atlanta area? I'm in Conyers.

Hi, you can call your CMC and she can replace it for you, just do it quick since they are discontinuing the 12 inch pattern now that they have the new one out. I am going to regionals this weekend and can't wait to see the new cutter in person!
Franne

I don't think they can replace this one. I dropped it and broke it. Plus the CMC that I ordered it from is no longer selling. But can my personal trimmer be replaced? It isn't cutting as nicely as it did and some times tears the paper at the initial cutting edge. It is about 3 years old.

Thanks! We have a Joann's but I'm always thought of it as a fabric store only. I'll have to look for the others.
AC Moore is a craft store like Michael's. The quantity and uniqueness(sp?) of products is sparce here. I tend to find more stuff at Michael's...but have been told that different AC Moore's in my area carry different products..how weird is that?
