New CDC Outdoor Guidance

That is us 100%. We have trips planned in June and September based on current Disney protocols which are meant for an unvaccinated population. We think first week of June will hold, but we will cancel September if they drop the outdoor mask mandate, which seems super likely after Bob’s comments today, before our littles can get their jabs.
Crossing fingers the 1st week of June will hold.

Do you just let the vaccinated people go maskless? Because that’s CDCs guidance, not a mask less free for all. And how can Disney know who is and who isn’t?

They won't know. And Florida law doesn't allow them to ask for proof. So either they stay the course and keep doing what they been doing, or they relax the rules and just take people's word for it. Those are the two options Disney has right now.

People in here suggesting wristbands or special lines or vax passes, etc... won't happen. Those things can't be done in Florida. Florida law won't let you create two tiers of people.

Super busy with not a free weekend til September bc of weddings etc moved to this year bc of Covid, but I will immediately plan a midweek Disney trip if masks are dropped. Which I expect. Would like to also do maskless Vegas, but a cross country trip is a little more daunting right now. Pretty surprised how fast the casinos dropped masks considering they were more strict than Disney.

We have been to Disney three times in the last year (20 days total) and felt very comfortable. With today's news we are watching very closely to see if they change the rules at DW. If they do, we likely will not take our nine year old on the 16 day trip we have planned in July. I understand the statistics but unless someone can tell me how this will effect her in five years, ten years, etc, it isn't worth it for her to have long lasting effects from this virus. There are people out there who are planning trips and comfortable with the current rules but would not be comfortable with new ones. DW was one of the only places we felt safe to go but if they change the rules, I don't think

That's fair, and I understand and empathize with your concerns. Ultimately, you've gotta make the best decision for you and your family, and Disney has got to make the best decision for them. What decision will they make, and when? We don't know yet.

No matter what they do, it'll receive criticism.

By July -- the situation could be vastly different (in a good way, I hope). IF things continue on the track they are currently, cases could be nearly non-existent. IF the vaccination goal is met, more than 70% of all adults will have received at least one dose by July 4th. That'll be a game-changer, honestly.

Let's see what happens.

Maybe they did maybe they didn’t. My entire family for the most part never did/still never does wear masks. We got to sporting events that are at 100% go to store without them and everything. None of us caught covid.
So there is a chance that if you never put a mask on that you wouldn’t have caught it.
But then again maybe it did prevent your from catching it. No one will ever know.
I’m super excited that DeSantis is protecting people’s right though when it comes to vaccine or no vaccine.

I lived in an area where covid was absolutely RAMPANT from December through February. Our daily case rate was north of 150 per 100k for several weeks. I had kids in school every day in person. I had a kid who was exposed twice in his classroom. He didn't get infected. My husband had a close contact at work. Didn't get infected.

We all wore masks properly and consistently. They work, and not just to protect others from me.

I understand your concerns and totally get where you are coming from but we have a different view. We have a second week in June trip scheduled and are hoping at least masks outdoors is optional. My husband, daughters and I are all fully vaccinated and can’t wait to get rid of masks. Unfortunately our 9 year old is not vaccinated yet but we will go even if masks are optional. We plan on just carrying a mask for him and using it indoors or in outdoor situations that we feel are risky. It all comes down to your comfort level with the current guidelines. Also, just because masks aren’t required it doesn’t mean you can’t still wear one or have your child wear one. Ultimately you just need to make the decision that is best for your family and if that means waiting to go there is nothing wrong with that!

Many people with COVID are asymptomatic, meaning they have no symptoms. They can spread the virus to people who do have symptoms. Such are the perils of this virus. Unless you get tested for antibodies, you don't really know if you haven't had it. I know I've wondered a few times if I've had it. I was in New York City right before the shutdowns.

Anyway, hopefully, this chapter in history will continue to fade away.

I actually did get tested for antibodies. Twice. The first time was last July and the second time was just before getting vaccinated in April. Negative both times. My husband also took one before getting vaccinated. Also negative.

Me and my significant other are both first responders, had a new born baby in July, didn’t get one day off work, not even one working from home, and we both deal with people all day…and my almost 10 month old is fine.

Not sure if this could make others feel better but if we had to be exposed to people (both of us) all day long, never got to work from home, and he’s perfectly healthy.

I would be comfortable then right now the numbers are high... much better but still high.

I watched it and Fauci actually said kids are FINE without a mask outdoors but should still probably wear them in most indoor settings. My kids have been in school since August and have NOT been required to wear masks outdoors or when in their assigned seats— only group work and moving around inside of the school. No outbreaks this whole year 😀
So really then the best compromise for wdw should be just no masks outside required.

This doesn't help your kid. The mask you wear protects everyone around you. The masks people around you wear protect you. It's being around other people who are unvaccinated and not wearing masks that is dangerous for unvaccinated people.
Huh? 🤪

Masks protect other people from you much better than they protect you from other people. Therefore, for masking to be effectively protect an individual, everyone else around the person has to be wearing a mask (or be vaccinated).
My mask prevents air flow in both directions

I'm pretty big pro-mask, and don't mind wearing them at all (it helps a lot if you actually get decent masks that fit and add a proper nose wire).

But at this point, I think it'd make sense to drop outdoor masking, at least in completely uncovered areas, maybe not mostly enclosed but technically outdoor queues.

Indoor I doubt is going to go away soon, especially if they want to ditch social distancing.

My mask prevents air flow in both directions
Masks work by blocking the water droplets that carry the virus, this water evaporates the farther away from your mouth/nose it gets, allowing it to pass through smaller orifices, like woven cotton. This has been the science on masks since long before COVID.

Wearing a mask does provide some benefit to the wearer, but the biggest benefit is if the sick person is wearing the mask.

This is why Disney bans masks with outlet valves.

My mask prevents air flow in both directions
No, it doesn't. If it did you couldn't breathe with it on. What it does is block particles above a certain size. Aerosols are largest when they are first breathed out and get smaller as they get further from the person they came from, so particles too big to get past the mask of the person they came from are small enough to get through the mask of another person who breathes them in.
