New buyer, without a tour?

Did you try and waitlist yourself for BLT?? I only ask because, as people buy into BLT, DVC continues to release more and more available rooms for reservation purposes. If you really want to stay at BLT, you should consider a waitlist... If not, SSR is beautiful and you'll have a great time there too. :goodvibes

Yes, keep on buying these things people, and keep on promoting that June 15th rumor, Crystal! I want my 4-night August wait list to come through!! :thumbsup2

Have my California Grill reservation all ready to go.

Interesting...what's this releasing of rooms all about? I thought that all the rooms would be available at BLT 11 months in advance to all who belong to BLT upon opening. (we are on waitlist as well. Hmmm....)

Disney can only "release" a certain amount of rooms depending on the overall completion of BLT. As the completion gets closer, there will be more rooms available to reserve. At last check (here on the DIS) I read there were only abou 40% of rooms available for reservations. I'm sure that number is different now, but that is the last I read.

I do not know if this is the same as THV, but I read only about half of the THV's are available to rent to DVC members, that the rest get rented to the public, because SSR was not sold out. Would this be the same for BLT that only a certain amount is rented to DVC members and the rest are to public?

I had stayed at AKL before the villas were put in... and bought without going on a DVC tour or seeing what they had done to the rooms to transform them into villas.

I think a tour would be more important if you were buying a traditional timeshare from a company you didn't know so well. If you visit WDW and stay in their hotels, you have a pretty good idea of what you're getting into without taking a tour.

We bought both our contracts (AKV and BWV) without touring the DVC rooms, but we'd been reading on the boards for years, so we knew what we were getting. We'd been to AKL for dinner and stayed at BWI, so we were at least a bit familiar with the resorts.

Actually, I say we knew what we were getting, but when we took our first trip, actually staying in a 2 bedroom in January on developer points at SSR, we were all blown away. We felt like we had so much space in the 2 bedroom, we honestly weren't prepared for quite how roomy it was. All four adults (DH, DM, DSF, and I) were impressed, and I don't think any of us are easily impressed. We have no regrets at all about buying when we did.

Yes, it is the same with BLT. Until the rooms or units are sold, they belong to the developer and are rented out as cash.

As sales of the resorts continue, they "release" more units to be sold. Once those units are released to DVC for sale, then those can be reserved using points.

I had read the same thing, that about 40% of the rooms at BLT had been released for sale and about 1/2 of those had been sold so far. How true this is, I am not sure.

I have been on the tour and the photos you see on the websites are exactly what you see on the tour. If you like the photos and like a great view with a great location, you will not be disappointed. We are buying in about two weeks. Hope you join us!

We bought sight unseen too. Can't wait to tour the AKV models next month when we stay at SSR on our developer points. We knew that with all of our children being over 9 now that we were either going to have to start paying for 2 rooms or the villas... so we might as well buy. I saw where someone else said that they would only buy sight unseen from Disney and we agree. We would never have considered it from anyone else. We love Disney and we know that Disney wants to keep us coming. Animal Kingdom is our favorite park so we purchased there, Good luck with your decision.

Has anyone made a first time purchanse without going on the tour and seeing the resort offerings first hand? I was going to wait until Sept, but I really want to take advantage of the incentives going right now for BLT.

we have been members for almost two years now, and when we bought, we bought over the phone and had never seen SSR where we had bought! When we visited the next time, we took the tour and were very pleased with our purchase.

We bought AKV sight unseen last March. We hadn't even been to AKL ;). But I did my research, read lots here on the Dis, looked at every picture I could find and knew it was the right choice for us. We had our first trip home last Dec. and fell in love with the place! We have to stay at OKW next week due to a scheduling snafu, and while we know we'll like it (gorgeous pictures), we're all sad we can't stay at "home" ;).

We are buying BLT without seeing the model, though we have stayed at BCV before. I knew I wanted BLT even if it cost me a little more. You just can't beat the location and the transportation options. Also, since I'm getting the full 50 years, I feel it will have more value if I ever go to sell it. I know some of the 2042 sell for more than SSR, but as you get closer to 2042, I doubt this will be the case.

IMHO, unless you are picky about decor, anything Disney builds is going to be well designed.

We bought five years ago at SSR without ever having set foot at the resort. We had stayed at OKW and VWL on rented points several times before we purchased and spent countless hours reading the disboards and felt like we were highly educated regarding DVC prior to buying in. I called and told them we wanted to buy 220 points and of course they didn't question it!:lmao: On our first visit back to the "world" after becomming members (we had a reservation at VWL on rented points) we called, told them we were members and wanted a tour of what we bought.

Tour? They have a tour? I bought DVC before even going to WDW. :confused3

Then again I was an AP holder at DL, so at least I knew I enjoyed Disney.

We also bought without a tour (SSR). We had stayed at the Disney Institute before it closed and new it was the location we wanted. We have never regretted it!
