We have decided, after years of researching, to purchase a DVC resale contract this year. We have stayed at both OKW and SSR many, many times. (More than what’s in my signature, as these are the resorts our families stayed at when visiting us when we were both CMs.) As such, these are our two favorite resorts on property, and where we would like to own.

1. It seems as if it’s much easier to buy at SSR, and the MFs are lower. If we buy here, how likely are we to be able to also stay at OKW? And likewise, if we buy at OKW, how likely are we to also be able to stay at SSR? We will be purchasing enough points for 7 nights in a 1-bedroom villa each year, and we will never be looking for studios.

2. What are the chances SSR 1-bedroom villas will officially sleep 5 after the refurb?

3. Right now our favorite time of year to travel is October, although we have gone at all times of the year. I foresee us going more in the summer as the kids get older. Does UY really matter in this situation?

Getting into both of those resorts at 7 months is not bad most of the time. I don’t see any major problems for 1 bedrooms. Now if it were studios for the first 2 weeks in December that’s a different issue. OKW points are cheaper for the 2042 expiration. But have higher Dues (maintenance fees) than SSR. Use year only matters if you need to cancel and when you visit. If you cancel a trip within 4 months of the use year the points cannot be banked and have to be used by the end of the use year or be lost . The other issue is let’s say you have a July use year and schedule a trip for 10 days starting on June 25 and ending July 5. This trip covers 2 different use years and would need to be booked as 2 reservations. 1 from June 25-30 and one from July 1-5. So if you would like to go in summer and fall a April or June use year might be ideal, but others will work but you might have to manage your points closely.

If you want the HH section at OKW, then it would be a good idea to buy there. But typically a 1BR at SSR and OKW (not HH section) are pretty easy to get at 7 months.

HH 1 bedrooms only have one door to use the bathroom through the master bedroom though. So any guests staying in the living room must enter the master bedroom to get to the bathroom. This issue was corrected in later built units.

If you cancel a trip within 4 months of the use year the points go in holding and can only be used for a reservation scheduled 60 days out or less. The selection for rooms is not great. Thank you! Did not think about this particular situation with having a trip falling like this.

Thanks, good to know!

And I thought I had done all the research I possibly could - I was not aware of this, though. It’s not super important to us for the kids, who would be in the living room, to have bathroom access without coming in the master bedroom. Definitely slightly annoying, but not enough to stop us from booking this category. Thank you!

From the member website:
1-Bedroom Villa Standard Room
View Floor Plans- Modal
Standard Categories are located in The Grandstand, The Carousel and The Paddock.
1 king-size bed, 1 queen-size sleeper sofa
5th guest can be accommodated, but please note that no additional bedding, linens or towels will be provided.

OKW 2042 has the twin sized sleeper chair for the fifth person, so it's the one oddity for Kathy's comment. BLT and AKV aren't 2042, but they also have the twin sleeper chair.

All the other 2042's have nearly identical layouts and the sleeper chair and murphy bed don't fit there. With the newer murphy bed (queen and bunk) may change all that.

in reply to the Jackal's statement:
"If you cancel a trip within 4 months of the use year the points go in holding and can only be used for a reservation scheduled 60 days out or less."

I don't believe this statement is accurate. I thought the points from a cancelled reservation go into holding if the reservation was cancelled between 30 to 1 day out from the arrival date.
If you cancel a reservation 31 days or more before the check-in date the points from the reservation go back into your current use year. (If you had used banked or borrowed points in that reservation, they now must remain in the current UY and cannot be banked.)

Yes you are correct, living on 3 hours of sleep does that to you .thank you for correcting that.
