Ok, I enjoyed the last thread until it took a different turn. I would like to start another thread....

Personally, I do not think price per point will be as high a reported ($140-$180) They know current owners have add-on-itis and would love to be a part of BLT but with such a high price per point, they are going to exclude a lot of current members who already know the DVC deal and would be happy to plunk a reasonable amount of change down to own there. I personally will not buy there for a few reasons:

1. Love the location but only if visiting MK. Other parks a far away.
2. Price per point will be higher than I am willing to shell out
3. Don't care for theme
4. Would rather have points at BCV and take me chances at 7 months to get into BLT

If I want to be close to one park, I think I'd pick AKV because I prefer the theme there and like the added attraction of the animals and education aspect for my kids.

Don't get me wrong, I am sure BLT will be a beautiful place but just not for me or my wallet.

Theme? what theme do you see at BLT?
The renovations I've seen at the current Contemporary are more of some form of trendy "Bistro Deluxe" type decorating, and architecturally, BLT is your typical "glitzy condo". A true theme would be 5 star minimialistic moderenism, and BLT would be a great work of modern architecture.

Maybe that is why BLT and the Contemporary doesn't really resonate with us; no theme. Our kids are older so closeness isn't a big factor for us - just someplace on property, please. I would rather do an add on at VWL. That is what is so cool about the DVC resorts; something for everyone.

I am going to stick with the theory of moderate price increase and a higher point structure per night.

I think the point the OP is making is the total lack of theme of the current CR. I stayed there once and didn't care for the modernistic decor. I felt the theming was very "cold". I've been in the redecorated CR rooms and while they are a bit nicer they are still too "cold" for my taste.

I will not be purchasing BLT points unless they are super cheap as I have no overwhelming desire to stay there. If I ever am able to book there at the 7 month window I may just to try it. I much prefer the themed "warmer" resorts like VWL, BWV, OKW & SSR. I haven't tried BCV or AKV yet but will at some point. BLT is definitely at the very bottom of the list.

Just to be fair, its not far away from Epcot... its a quick Monorail ride away... granted you have to enter at the front versus the more convenient back entrance so I will concur BW and BCV are better for Epcot access... but BLT is not that far from Epcot.

I won't be purchasing at BLT, because we really have enough points for us...but I'd like to stay at the BLT from time to time. I like the Contemporary, it is my favorite non-DVC resort, and if I can snag a stay in the villas occasionally, I'll be happy. If not, I still love my home resort of OKW.

... And the monorail entrance at Epcot seems to be about a mile closer to the entrance than some of the EPCOT bus stops, and it is a seriously grand way to experience an EPCOT entrance (where you first "fly around" Spaceship Earth before disembarking.)

I am not at all against BLT, and will want to add-on if the price is reasonable. To me, BLT would be an ideal combination of great views (hey, when you are in the contemporary, you do not have to look at it) and convienence to my favorite parks and restaurants.

To me, bad modern style is cold and sterile. Great modern combines stunning craftsmanship and design. (For instance 2 years ago This Old House did a modern home that was very modern, warm and striking) Although I would never live in a "modern" home I would like to stay in a very-well done modern hotel. I do not believe that Disney wants to pay for top quality modern, so they get more bang-for the buck with their warm-trendy look.

I think the price will be as high as reported.

However I think that will allow Disney to give you a HUGE one time only discount of $30 or $40 a point for existing members. That will drive the sales VERY quickly. LOL!

I find the monorail to be one of the most frustrating transportation modes at Disney and the MK is the park I spend the LEAST time in. (My last visit I hit every park BUT MK) As a result, I get to sit this buying frenzy out!

I am in agreement with you (I am also happy to be wrong), but I buy the argument that at the current price structure, Disney would be unable to develop enough properties, either standalone or as part of a deluxe resort, to continue to drive the revenue stream. Even if the economy is "recessed" for a year or two and slow sales down, things will turn around. It may be better from a revenue point of view to charge more and make fewer sales so that the rate of development slows down. Another poster in another thread had made this comment and it makes a lot of sense to me as long as they can make the revenue stream continue at the higher prices. It may turn out that many of us current owners are no longer in their target demographic. Makes me glad I did my add on in May.

As I've stated elsewhere, I hope BLT turns out to be a DVC resort (partially or all). I'm buying points there as soon as they start selling them. To me, BLT will be worth it. :goodvibes

You can walk to/from the MK. It will offer a wide range of dining opportunities, not only at CR (California Grill, Chef Mickeys, The Wave), but at those monorail-accessible resorts (Victoria & Alberts, Citricos, Narcoosees, Kona, Ohana's, etc), as well as those at the MK.

You can get great views of the MK, Cinderella's Castle and Wishes, and Bay Lake and Seven Seas Lagoon. There is a wide variety of water recreation options available, including hang gliding, Sea Raycers, pontoon boats, fishing, etc.

:cool1:

not a rumour, call it a figment;) of my imagination...just throwing something out there that might appeal to a different target audience
What if the points for BLT were set @ $200 a point:idea: , with an exclusive length of stay FOTL perc (think Loews @ Universal) to all persons on any ressie made with BLT points?

Do u think it would sell? Imagine, a mere 25 point add-on @ $5000 w/banking & borrowing could = studio & FOTL once every 2 to 3 years; tempting stuffpopcorn::

I tend to agree there is little theming at the Contemp. although I still like it. Consider this...the MK resorts are a mirror image of the MK itself. GF is like Main Street, Poly is like Adventure land, WL is Frontierland, Contemp is Tomorrowland. All we need is a new Fantasyland hotel.

Wow! I never thought of that! You are right. That is a great observation.

Yep, same scenario here. We spend the least time at MK, and the Contemporary leaves me cold. The Monorail looks like an outdated slow mode of thransportation anymore, so not sure what the big attraction is supposed to be here. I doubt I'll even have any desire to actually try to stay there anymore than I have a desire to stay at BWV. Neither are my cup of tea.

Although there is not a great overall theme. If you have any kid left in you, there is at least a "wow" factor when you see the main building with the monorail travelling thru.
.. And the views from the higher floors will also be great. (I never heard anything great from anyone staying in one of the short, long wings: long walks + mundane views)

exactly!

im thinking there is a market of potential DVCers who don't necessarily want to retreat to a "gimmicky theme" resort that is seeped in disneyana:confused3 ; looking for something more understated and upscale (with a tasteful hidden mickey or 2 lol).

I am one of those that will add on if at all possible... my target will be the number of points that gets me a stay of 5 nights Sun-Thu in the late summer.
If we can afford it we will do it...been waiting a while for this and decided against add ons or reasales until now hoping for Contemporary. We have an affinity for the Contemporary and its views and proximity to the MK and other resorts.

I think this resort will absolutely become booked up at 7 months and people who cannot reserve 8-11 months ahead will be forced to sell.. generating more resales... and more money for Disney under ROFR. Although originally we all thought the price per point increases were justified by increased resources at places like BWV and BCV I think it has become more market pricing - set where they think it will sell... and provide incentives when they need to boost sales.

If I can't afford it I guess I will have to wait for Fantasyland Villas or Mediterranean Villas on that lakeside land between the TTC and CR... :rotfl2:

I will say one thing about the pricing rumors...they do seem to be having the effect of getting people to re-think purchases at the current resorts. I've seen a number of posts to that effect in the last few days.

The common line of thinking seems to be that Disney is holding off on a BLT announcement so that it doesn't impact sales at AKV. Perhaps these little rumor leaks have been orchestrated to serve a similar purpose--to push more toward AKV now out of fear that a big price increase will hit when BLT is announced.
