Fantastic blog. Really enjoyed this and hope there will be more on this historical theme.

Very well done! Brings back a lot of memories. My family stayed at the Contemporary every summer from 1972-1978, usually for 3-4 days at a clip. (I even have one of the "souvenir" plates shown in the photo. :rolleyes1 Not sure how it got into my suitcase). We ate at all of the venues mentioned. To be honest, most of them were dreadful. Anything that had the name "buffeteria" attached to it was something to avoid. But the Gulf Coast Room was outstanding, even if, as a little boy, I had to put on a monkey suit. And my parents would hire us a "Disney babysitter" for their evenings out at the Top of The World. One time our sitter was a young woman whose park job was "Alice". When you are 10, you tend to remember girls who are THAT pretty. All in all, I loved the whole vibe. To me, it looked as if the futuristic era of the Jetson's was coming to life. A logical extension of the 1964 World's Fair. Thanks for the great article.

EXCELLENT blog post. I really enjoyed reading it. I would love to see similar complete histories on the other resorts!!
