new blog: Matching Shirts in a Disney Park are a Good Idea

I never thought it was goofy looking.
Just families or groups having a great time and marking the occasion.

I never really thought about, but I like the point about it being easier to spot your family and keep track of the kids. I'll have to bring it up my my DW. :)

Funny story. I saw a kid about 3 years old in Fantasyland running back and forth between the Snow White ride exit and the carousel completely hysterical, red faced, bawling. I wasn't going to attempt to catch him, but I decided I should follow him and keep a look out for the frantic parents or a CM. Well, suddenly I see a family wearing matching white shorts and lime green shirts come out of BBB, and that's what this kid is wearing. I go up to them and say something like, "Hi, are you look for this lost child? Well, he's right here!" They look at me clueless, and finally the mom says in a thick accent that he's not theirs. At this point I'm not the only one looking at this kid, so I go find a CM and tell them there's a lost child running around screaming. She says she'll call someone, I go back to sit on a planter and wait for security, when this mom who was sitting on the ledge by the carousel comes over, points at me, and shouts, "Quit staring at my kid, you expletive!"

I left, the kid was still running around screaming, I wonder if security ever showed up.

Thou almost persuadeth me to buy matching shirts. I guess the real problem is what happens when it's a 5-7 day trip? That's a lot of matching shirts. Or one really stinky shirt by Saturday.

It's useful if you have small children who could get separated, but if our group is only teens and adults we'll all have phones so it's not a big deal.

My group of 6 ladies wore matching headbands (that I got on clearance at the Disney store before our trip) one year. They were gaudy and hilarious but man if they didn't help us find each other!

Can I just request that the ones who WANT the matchy shirts are the ones that design, create, and make the matchy shirts?

DH and DS like it. And they want ME to do it. And I don't like matchy shirts. Not even on other people. So that's super-annoying to be asked to create something you don't like/want.

The ONE trip I went close to it I had daily buttons made up for us to wear (though I think one day I actually made a little cotton purse that matched their buttons). But I'm not a graphic designer so when I had the DISigners help me, I ended up with squares of their design on a button, instead of it wrapping around the edges of the button.

Thankfully DH and DS have never asked again. They saw how hard it was for me, and it wasn't important enough for them to actually DO it.

I'm not too keen on matching shirts but something I did find useful were glow in the dark clothing/bracelets to use at night.

I've been making matching shirts for long Disneyland vacations. It's a bit of a tradition. I actually just buy T-shirts and use an iron-on printer transfer paper. It's not too difficult. We only wear them the first day of the trip. But we get some nice pictures this way.

It's like asking someone to cook a dish you know they don't like, and then being upset/surprised when it's not good. Haha!

We wear matching shirts when we travel in a large group (12 to 14 of us). We have never lost a child but have lost a grandparent or two on occasion. They always find us because of our shirts! We usually wear bright blue. Not necessarily the same shirt, but the same color. Last year we wore Halloween shirts (in October) with images on the back (black shirts) and that was just as easy to spot in a crowd as the bright blue. I know it can look a little silly, but it works to keep everyone together!
:):):)

I am all for them in the right circumstances. Usually I would pick a theme for each day. Our favorite characters, all one movie (and not even all Disney), Soda-pop, football jerseys, concert t-shirts, etc. You get the idea. It made great family photos. You can pick up these shirts at about any store that sells t-shirts.

The best time of all though. (Forgive me if you've read this before because I have posted it before). The Incredibles came out but wasn't released yet for home. I went to the Disney Store in the mall and bought 5 red Incredibles shirts. We had our young niece with us, who has long black hair. She and my youngest son were about 6 and our older son was 9. The boys also had red Incredibles varsity jackets, and my husbands was black. All 3 had the incredibles logo stitched on the back.

The entire day, everywhere we went, CM's and Characters were pointing us out and posing for pictures. At the end of the day I had a stack of the cards to go get our pictures (remember this was before they could scan your card).

Needless to say, the kids still talk about that being their favorite trip. And it's 2nd in their all-time favorite family vacation. Which is crazy considering they've done Disney a ton of times and they've been all over the world.

And it was all because this mom had the crazy and often criticized idea to put the whole family in matching shirts.

I can also point out it was the month that the 75 Mickey statues were at the park. We naturally wore our Mickey Mouse t-shirts one day and posed with every single one we could find. I have a few collage frames that hang in my staircase with all of those pictures. The kids did great and posed to match whatever the statue was decorated for.

I would never do matching shirts - first, it's a rare t-shirt indeed that I would wear in public, but also because I like to wear my vintage Disney embroidered henleys and other unusual Disney things, and there's no way I could match them. Plus my DD is still young enough to wear Princess dresses in the parks, and she would object vociferously to wearing anything else. But it's cool to see what other people come up with.

Did the tye-dye Mickey heads one year and the dried flour/spray fabric paint another time. Both were time consuming and worth it to me. Some family members never wore them again. Others asked me to sew holes as they aged. My all-time favorite pic was of my entire family in matching but varied colors of shirts I made.
