new blog: Magic Kingdom January 2012 Construction Update

Nice read, and thanks for the updates.

My wife and I were discussing this the other day, and got to talking about how it would, or would not, affect your vacation, kind of like the podcast discussion the other day. I guess as frequent visitors, we don't mind so much, but I admit, if it was a first time trip, I'd be a little annoyed.

Wondering what everyone's thoughts on Disney doing something for guests during this time frame are. I realize they don't need to discount park tickets, and when a park is open all year, they have to do this at some point. With that said however, it would be a GREAT gesture to say, make park hoppers free for a time being, or offer something similar, that really doesn't cost them a dime.

Thoughts?

Thanks for the pics Kathy and Theresa. I thought that I could understand how it looked from your description on the podcast, but it looks worse than I pictured. With that being said it will not ruin our trip at all. I will be the only one who is a little bummed about this but my kids won't care. I am glad that I know so that it will not be a surprise for me. I am looking forward to comming back when my baby girl is bigger and doing all the new stuff with her and my son. I think what bothered me the most is the bakery construction sticking out into the view of the castle. I knew about the rest so I was prepared. Keep us informed!!! You are the best!:thumbsup2

I am really worried right now.

Is this picture, straight down main street.

Like i cant stand at one end and get a picture of the castle?

I will be there Feb 24th is this still going to be the case?

If so, i am truly upset and almost dont even want to go.

I am going in that day specifically for pictures of DH and i in front of the castle as we will be getting married that day at Sunrise and our goal for the day was to get as many diffent pic in MK as possible.

OH NO!!!!

Yes I took the picture looking straight down Main Street. If you stand to the left you could get a shot without the scrim. If you moved further up you could avoid the bumpout by the Bakery.

My cousin, his wife, 2 year old son and both sets of grandparents are going to WDW the end of Feburary for basically their first trip (no one in the group has been in 20 years) and I am debating about how much to tell them about the construction. I don't want to freak them out. I already told him about Dumbo. I think I am going to send him a link to Kathy's blog so they can be somewhat prepared. I feel bad, they are so excited to take Matthew on his first big trip and especially to the Magic Kingdom. He's only two so he isn't going to notice of course, but I hope the grown ups aren't too disappointed.

I think Kathy enjoys saying the word "scrim.";)

Yes, i think you are right about the "SCRIM"s,

BUT what is behind that SCRIM and why is the SCRIM So LARGE...

And does this mean there is no BAKERY either?

Oh gosh it is one of our traditions to go get something from the bakery and eat it while we wait for the parade:confused3

thanks for the pics.. kinda makes me sad because we are there in a week and we saw the same stuff at main street at Disneyland back in march.. but i am glad that the curtains that they do put up do look like the buildings that are suppose to be there so not all the magic is gone.
