new blog: How to Soar at Cars Land: Luigi’s Flying Tires

Thanks. I understand it's a positive article, but

While Mater and Lightning get all the attention with their attractions, two of the film’s breakout comic geniuses have created their own smash hit – Luigi’s Flying Tires! Since fans of Disneyland have been crying out for years to bring back a ride like the historical Flying Saucers (which had a successful 5 year run in the early 1960′s), it is almost a no-brainer to realize that this will be one of the more popular attractions in Cars Land.

On the contrary, it is almost a no-brainer to realize that this will be the worst attraction in Cars Land among the three rides. All the reviews before this have RSR and MJJ rated much higher than LFT.

Still, I enjoyed reading the blog. Very informative and energetic. I can't wait to ride this one. Heck, with extremely low expectations set, I may be pleasantly surprised.

ValpoCory,

I have read many of the same reviews. I see that we are going to the parks around the same time period. It will be interesting to see what changes may have been made to it by the time we are there. I guess for now we watch and wait!popcorn::

Great review, thank you for sharing

I can't wait to ride this myself .... 2 weeks :banana::banana:

ValpoCory. Out of the three rides in Cars Land this was my wife's favorite. I too really liked it but liked RSR better. It was lots of fun and once we figured out to lean in the direction the tire wanted to move it was a blast. A winner in our book.

You aren't alone, I've read other reviews expressing similar opinions. In generally, those people who are good at steering the tires like them; those who aren't good hate them.

Hey folks! Thanks for all of the lively debate about the blog! I also heard the folks that had already decided ahead of time that the ride had no value and then I decided not to color my perception either way.

Here was my thought process in reviewing the attraction:

  • I chose to go into the attraction with the mindset of my kids, who are 7 and 5.5. I looked at everything around me with them and I looked at their faces as we did stuff. You know, to a kid, all queues last forever and if they feel like being patient, they'll be good or if they want something bad enough, they'll be bouncing off the walls. After all, we grownups are the ones who assign "cost" value to time.
  • I analyzed popularity based on how much people were talking about the attraction - pro or con. Human nature actually dictates that there will be people who will try out a ride they feel they heard negative things on, because they want to prove that the naysayer is either right or wrong. Disney built a much larger queue for Luigi's than Mater's and the line patterns this weekend proved that this indeed was the need distribution. More attended Luigi's vs. Mater's.
  • Finally, I watched faces each time I rode. I don't think I saw anyone who got off that ride with unhappy body language.

I think most importantly, I wanted to communicate what I saw as it happened, so that people could be aware and prep themselves. Hopefully readers will take more time to look at the walls, flowers and queue and manage their own expectations going in.

I had the opportunity to ride this both on Saturday and this morning. I have to agree with the bolded. Despite the fact that it took a long time to load this attraction, I got a real kick out of watching everyone's faces while riding it. They had so much fun trying to grab the beach balls, steer their tires, and crash into each other - everyone had huge smiles, and some were laughing out loud. At least, this is what I saw while waiting to ride, and then after getting off.

I have to admit, though I kind of grumbled about waiting in the long line, at least we were in the shade and we had fun music to listen to. I did have fun on the ride.

I think it is important to note that communication is an important factor. Everyone in the tire needs to make sure they all lean in the same direction to get it going well. There were a couple of times we flew across, and it was so ... much ... fun!

very fair strategy ! So much more mature than the "haters" who have decided it's value prior to every riding the thing !

I find that I usually enjoy things others don't. I like movies that get thumbs down and sometimes don't like or get the really popular movies. :confused3

I am enjoying all the videos and reports as I won't get the chance to return to DLR until Sept. Hoping the lines are not quite as long then, but will still stand in line to get my turn on the tires. :woohoo:

I rode this four times. Each time I saw nearly everyone having a good time. (A few small kids were scared).

It is a lot more fun than Mater's Junkyard, which feels like a carnival kiddie ride. With a few feet of clear space you can get them going OK fast. It is only too slow in loading.

Here is what I saw every time I rode the Flying Tires.:thumbsup2
