Very imformative article, but they got Disney's port wrong. We all know that Disney docks in Port Canaveral, not Port Everglades!!!

Yes. That surprised me, because I don't recall <I>Maritime Today</I> ever accidentally linking <I>Disney</I> with Port Everglades in the past.

Just heard on the local news tonight that the Holland America ship has 20 cases of illness already. Guess it didn't help out completely by being out of service for a couple of weeks.

Sounds like all it takes is for one passenger with the virus to board, spread it around and it takes hold again.
Since people can be contagious without knowing it, it is like any flu, spread during normal daily life. It is just that on the ships people are closer together like in camps, nursing homes and hotels, so it spreads faster.
What a dilemma.

we are out on the left coast in Vancouver Washington and there are over 200 cases reported here. I don't know why the media has hopped on the poor cruise industry like flys on stink when it's obvious that anyone can get this virus anywhere, anytime. This isn't a particulary comforting thought as everyone does their holiday running around and mingling in public places. It may be awhile before the outbreaks stop in confined areas like JLSE50 mentioned. Looking on the bright side, the fact that the media has been all over this must mean that they can't find anything more sensational to talk about. And that's a good thing.

It wasn't the Maritime Today that got the wrong port for the Disney Magic, it was the CDC! See the following URL for the CDC update report:

I suppose it is just a typo, but you kinda wonder if the CDC inspected the right ship!

I found a feedback page on the CDC website and submitted a correction about the home port of the Magic.

This morning I recieved e-mail from the chief of the CDC Vessel Inspection program thanking me for the correction.
