NEW (and IMPROVED, if THAT's possible!)Wilderness Lodge FAQ

I was the one asking about connecting rooms on the concierge floor before. Thanks for the info. Now for the next question, really more a curiosity. Why don't I ever see concierge listed as an option for WL on the disneyworld.com reservations site ? I see it for other resorts. Are they just not offering it via the web, or is it always already booked (doubtful)?

BCVNovember,

It seems to be that way when you check availability on the website. I have noticed this with several resorts, not just WL.

Just call CRO or WDTC and get availability from them. Even between CRO and WDTC, availability may vary.

I have tried to check availability several times for concierge levela and it never comes up under available room types but I always manage to get the ressie by calling. Same with booking suites.

We stayed WL concierge last October. We enjoyed it.

I still have WAY too long to wait until December and my first stay at WL. Having read through all 150 pages of the original FAQ and now this one, I still have questions. (Hard to believe, huh?)

I have a deluxe room booked. What I want to know is if I can simply request one 'at the end with an unobstructed view of Bay Lake from the main balcony (i.e. the one off the sitting room)'? Does that room exist?

Also, am I correct that even if non-smoking, smoking is allowed on the balcony?

And, how do I put a countdown in my signature? And can I do two since I am cruising on the Magic for NYE (lucky me!) in a Cat. 3 suite with some very good friends (Hi guys! Love you!)

....listen, darlin', don't sweat it, you could very well be correct. Whenever AspiringCindy stayed at WL, the KK's were ALWAYS available. They were there, too, when I visited in August 2002. Maybe there was a delivery glitsch, or, perhaps, they don't offer them at WL any longer.....I especially LOVE 'em fresh out of the oven!

Well Kimmar, I finally made it over here to the new thread. At this rate, it will reach 150 pages before we know it. You know it gives me a little chuckle to see the craze of KK doughnuts. I must be spoiled since I lived 15 miles from the original location. I guess eating those things for 25+ years can do that to a person.:D

ms1, you can get a countdown clock by clicking here

ratpack, I have only been exposed to KK donuts for about 3-4 years. If I had known about them 25 years ago, I would have exploded by now.

kimmar, please see my new siggie! :D

FloridaFam - Thanks for the info on booking concierge.

Now, maybe someone can tell me if I'm understanding the "views" at WL correctly. From the maps I've seen it appears that the back (or "vee" shape) of the WL is pointed toward the pool and lake. The other rooms on the outside of the lodge would be "woods" view, correct? So the lagoon must be at the front of the lodge, (meaning it is inbetween 2 bodies of water?) as some of the "woods" view rooms are the ones that allow a view of the Castle and fireworks. Is that right?

Now apparently the 7th floor, where the dedicated concierge services are located are at the front of the lodge only, or do the rooms extend back toward the lake?

Thanks!

From what I know...

The inner courtyard where the pool, etc. is are all courtyard views. The south side of the south wing is also considered a courtyard view even though I believe you look at the villas and the villa quiet pool (this is what we were told in October).

The north side of the north wing is woods view.

Does this sound correct to anyone?

I believe the woods view, higher floors are where you may catch a glimpse of the fireworks.

I believe that the 7th floor stops about 1/2 way down the courtyard of the lodge and does not extend to the end of the resort.

I was thinking the other day that if we ever did concierge there again that I would actually prefer a woods view from the 7th floor than a courtyard view.

I'm sure someone will have more info or be able to confirm if my information is correct or not.

HA HA HA - KIMMER - I took this quiz and thought of you because look what my results are!!!

We stayed in a deluxe room in December 2002 (Room 4166). We had a great view of Bay Lake from the main balcony and a great view of the geyser from the smaller balcony (and the fireworks at MK). It was quite a hike from the lobby, but it was worth it, my son loved to watch the EWP every night.

I had posted this on the Resort Board and I am reposting it hear at kimmar067 suggestion.

Just got back today from an 8 night stay at the lodge (May 17-25).

The WL is fantastic and we enjoyed every minute of our stay.

We had a block of 3 standard rooms booked at the AP rate of $124 and I faxed some requests in 4 days before our arrival. I requested:

- non-smoking rooms.
- 2 of the rooms connecting.
- North wing 4th floor or higher (best view possible) (I read here that this was the best spot for a standard room)
- all 3 rooms as close together as possible.

They gave us 3 non-smoking rooms together with 2 connecting. We were upgraded to courtyard view on the 4th floor of the south east wing. The room numbers were 4156, 58, 60.

The rooms overlooked the Wilderness Lodge Villa pool and the woods next to it. It was a great view and we were very happy with the rooms. It was very convenient for access to both pools and the boat dock but it was a pretty good hike to the elevators.

I enjoyed opening up the balcony door every morning to watch the sun rise and hear a virtual symphony of bird song. I am not certain but I think they were Mocking Birds in the woods that I was listening to. At night we would sit on the balcony and listen to the frogs croaking in the woods. No mosquitoes or any bugs bothered us on the balcony or anywhere on the grounds.

I was never bothered by any noises from other rooms and was never bothered by noise from outside.

There are so many good things to say about this resort I don't know where to begin. I loved the theme music they play, it really sets the mood and makes you feel you are at someplace special. I could even hear it from my balcony.

I spent at least a couple of hours just looking around and enjoying the amazing architecture and grounds.

I used all the pools, the hot tubs, the pool bar, rented water mice and used the boat transportation so if any one has any questions fire away. The only thing I didn't use was the buses.

The housekeeping was adequate but nothing special (no towel animals or anything like that) and I did tip most days.

The Whispering Canyon Cafe has great food and a really fun atmosphere. We also went to the Yachtsman at the Yacht club resort and I can honestly say that the steak was much better at the Whispering Canyon and $10 cheaper. I would not recomend the Yachtsman restaurant as the food was poor (and overpriced) and the theming was dull and the atmosphere stuffy.

The only negative thing I can say about the lodge is that the pool is too small. We toured around some of the other deluxes (CR, GF, Poly, BC, YC) and the pool at the WL lodge is obviously the smallest. I wonder why they made it so small compared to the others?

The boats are fast and frequent. We never waited more than 5 minutes for a boat at WL. They have two different colour flags (Green and Blue) to tell you where they are going. The one to the MK stops at FW and then goes on to MK. It means that WL is the first stop on the way back which is nice. Its also good for going to the Hoop Dee Doo which we did one night. There is so much to look at during the trip you don't notice the time - I am not sure how long a trip takes - 15 minutes?

The boat to CR is smaller than the one to MK. We took this boat to tour some resorts. We used the monorail to go from CR to the GF and Poly (I liked the atmosphere and look of the WL much more than the Poly - sorry Poly fans)

One night after fireworks at MK we went to the boat dock to go back to the resort and our hearts sank when we saw a massive lineup to get on the boats (backed up past the monorail overhead). I thought we might not make it we were so tired and the kids were cranky and putting up a fierce barrage of whinning. To our surprise the boats started coming one after the other and cleared the lineup in about 10 minutes! It was great and demonstrates typical Disney efficiency and logistical planning.

The boats actually pass over the road to get between Bay Lake and Seven Seas Lagoon. I thought that was pretty cool as I didn't know that before I went on one.

The Boats are fast enough that they can sneak up on you if you are not watching behind you in your watermouse. This happened to my DD and she nearly abandoned ship when they gave her a horn blast to get out of the way!

Paul G. sound like you had a great trip!
As far as the pool is concerned, I think they designed it small on purpose as not to detract from the ambience of the theming. They were more concerned with quality than size.

Thanks so much for joining us here on our humble thread. You'll find us a meek and happy bunch!

Great siggie!!;)

BVCNovember ~
Go to the link on the 1st page of this thread. Then look to either the last or one of the last pages on our old WL FAQ thread. I think you may find your answer there....:D

Ratpack ~
Good to have you back!:Pinkbounc :bounce:

Thanks to everyone for all the good info !!! It feels like forever until I get to go but......coming here just makes me happy knowing I going to the WL !!

Wishing everyone many DISNEY days ahead

:earsgirl:

Could anyone tell me if the Wilderness Lodge has a direct email address? If so, can you email room requests?

Also, are requests beneficial? We have a Wood's View reserved starting Monday 6/2, and would like the North wing (I think), but really would be happy anywhere. So, I guess I am looking for someone to tell me definitively whether it is worth the trouble to bother the WL staff with a room request when I really don't know what I want?

Egad, forgive me for being so convoluted :D

Hi Jaygatz!
Can't help you with the email address, if it exists, but wanted to let you know everytime we have faxed our requests, we have gotten it.,or close to it It doesn't always happen, but it definetly won't if you don't fax it!! WL is beautiful, and a relaxing break form the fast pace of the parks! Fax # is 407-824-3232. Fax 3 days before your arrival. That would be now! Your trip is here! Have a "MAGICAL"time!

Thanks for your reply:D I am giddy with anticipation. I'm going to fax, and we'll see how it goes. I've got my fingers crossed for some magic:D

Well, I'm off all. I probably won't post anymore here until I come back from my trip. Send prayers our way. If I find time, I might post from the WL. Thanks for all the great advice. WL, here I come!!!

Turn on the Travel Channel....WL is being featured RIGHT NOW!!!

edit: oh, thanks, Ratpack!!

The view they showed on the Travel channel show from the deluxe room is exactly the same view we had except I think we were up one floor.

The view they showed was looking out over the Villas pool and adjacent woods.

Wow deja vue all over again!
