New 2010 Promotion

I like the general idea of this promotion. However, since there is no equivalent of the "Birthday Fun Card," I predict it will be less popular with passholders and those already having multi-day tickets.

Yep.

And, apparently, the only people who will be eligible will be ones who live in one of like six cities in America. I appreciate encouraging volunteerism, but if I don't live in LA, NY, Chicago, DC, Atlanta or Sacramento it's not really something I can participate in -- even if I want to. Um . . . k.

I think you are wrong about only being in six cities. The Good Morning America piece showed people volunteering in Miami. I read another announcement(not sure where), but it said that volunteering would be available in 83% of the country. I am sure more will be announced.

It is possible they could be doing more than one promotion. People need to keep their pants on perhaps. Especially since this says they are looking for one million volunteers over the year period of time.

"With this announcement, we’re looking for 1 million people with a passion to make a difference"

Are they just going to stop the promotion in the middle of the year if they get their million?

I think there is more coming.

I'm not enthused. I thought the WWYC was a lot cuter. So why does WDW have to have a theme every year, remember the days when you just went to WDW to have fun and the biggest theme would be an anniversary? I say forget the theme for this coming year and work hard on a great 40th Anniversary theme.

I don't know if the "WWYC" theme will be there next year, I mean on the website under the 'downloads' section they have the Celebration 2010 Prize-O-Meter. Maybe the theme for 2010 will be "Give A Day, Get A Day".

I usually volunteer one day a week anyway...there were many places on the map..I signed up for e mail updates....the black out dates i read were Easter wk & July 4th....

:confused3I like the idea... but I noticed the blackout dates- April -July... Isn't that when a big portion of people go to WDW? I know that's when we go. I still my volunteer but the 1 day will do me no good.

I think this "theme" is meant to get people involved in ways that will make a difference down the road. It means a lot more in the long run that just a one day ticket. And hats off to Disney, because many prominent people have tried to get more people to volunteer but may do not as they do not see any benefit out of it. Granted, a one day park ticket might not do it either but at least they are trying to get people out there doing something. AND THE PEOPLE THEY ARE LIKELY TO TARGET ARE YOUNGER, WHICH MEANS THEY MIGHT BE VOLUNTEERS FOR LIFE!

I followed the link provided by tazleiten12. And then kept reading and kept following links. When I got to the point where I could search for my zipcode, there were no opportunities listed (yet) in my area.

BUT, there was a form you could fill out if you were involved in a local community organization to find out if you could "enroll" that organization in the program.

We'll be following that route. My husband is on the board of directors for a non-profit that provides a one-week, free, residential summer camp to underpriviledged rural children. We take a week of our vacation time to volunteer at the camp for the week (sleeping in tents and eating in the dining hall :goodvibes ). The camp has 80-90 volunteers each summer. Why not do what we can to make this opportunity available to all of them?

Just a thought if you're already involved in a community service organization in your area.

Exactly! :thumbsup2

Not April THROUGH July. The week of Easter is blacked out and July 4th is blacked out.

I read the new promotion and thought KUDOS to WDW! I think it's fantastic that they are promoting helping out your community.

We are passholders, and probably will participate. I love it when my kids help others, and while they don't need the recognition for doing it, they will appreciate it and find it exciting.

Also, an advantage of this over the birthday promotion is you don't have to be there on a particular day.

"Volunteers who have multiday tickets or annual passes can get a special FASTPASS for up to six people in lieu of the voucher."

This was posted in another thread at the end of the article. :thumbsup2

WWYC is still the theme.

From http://blog.touringplans.com/2009/09/29/2010-disney-parks-free-admission-promotion-volunteer/:

"The end-spiel in the ad says “Beginning in January, give a day of service to a participating organization and get a one-day ticket to one of our parks, free!.” They are still keeping the “What will you celebrate?” slogan in their ad. According to the DisneyParks.com website, the “Free On Your Birthday” promotion ends December 31st, 2009."

Good: Volunteering

Bad: the "prize"

I am going to volunteer these holidays at a missions center with our family. I can easily volunteer after January too for a free ticket.

however I became a passholder for the first time (and DD next month on her birthday) BECAUSE of the birthday ticket discount. If I don't get a credit this time around, then no more passholder for me.

If they allowed the volunteer ticket to be used to upgrade, this would be great again.. but alas... Disney lost a passholder in a few months....

While this promotion doesn't seem to be as good a deal as others in the past such as the birthday promotion, I think that it is fantastic that Disney is using it's unmeasureable amount of nation/worldwide recognition to do this! Yes, I agree that I feel my time is worth more than $80 on most days, but the whole point to me personally isn't the $80 worth of goods you get in return. The feeling you get from knowing you helped people in need is worth waaay more than $80 to both sides. I will participate, and then I will donate my ticket to charity. Plus, as stated before, even though this seems serious enough to be the only promotion, I doubt it will be. I think that this is something extra that Disney is doing, especially since they have long been considered the evil empire and getting eviler. But hey, I could be way off, and that whouldn't shock me either.
