Today my DD#1 saved me $65! I had misplaced the clip on sunglasses that go with DS's frames after TBall 2 weeks ago. You can't just buy these in the store for kids that small, they have to be ordered and they cost me $40 2 years ago. I tried to go to his eye doctor last week and they were closed to reconstruct their office. So today we went back and the price had gone up to $65, plus I'd have to have them overnighted for our trip!
So I told my girls that they needed to completely clean out my car and whoever found that clip would get $10. After about 15 minutes DD#1 found it.
I guess she only saved me $55 since I had to give her $10, but that offer sure moved mountains!

I know that feeling as well for stuff... I have done the same thing for my kids..

Those clip ons are really expensive aren't they?

That is so great!

I opened your thread b/c I can sort-of relate! My dd5 is saving any money she gets for her Disney trip in October. When she gets sick, she is HORRIBLE with taking medicine, so I bribe her with $1 for her Disney envelope - and don't you know she opens right up! She's also very willing to clean up after herself! I don't know what I'm gonna do after October!

I told her she can spend her money on ANYTHING she wants - food, souveniers, candy, clothes - and I won't question her. (Of course we will buy her some souveniers too!)

She's almost at $40 and it's only June! I asked her if she can buy some things for her brother (ds2) and she said "of course, mom"! Like, DUH!

Sometimes she can be such a sweetheart!

Yep, my kids never cared about their grades until I started offering 20$ for each A. Now they work harder, get excited on report card day & look forward to spending their money! :)

DD1 (5 1/2) was resisting cleaning up her toys one day. After 2.5 hours and the loss of one of her two bedtime stories, I finally tried a new tack:

I told her I was going to set the kitchen timer, and if she had finished cleaning up her toys by the time it went off, she would get her story back and get money for her piggy bank. I set the timer for 15 mins (her toys were EVERYWHERE). 10 minutes later everything was picked up! It cost me $2 rather than the extra $10 I would have had to pay my cleaning lady the next day!

Wow, $20 for each A??? DD#2 got straight As, that would break me!
I know of a former student who was our valedictorian, however. Her father, a veterinarian, told her that if she got all As throughout High School, he'd buy her whatever car she chose within reason (i.e. no Porsche, corvette, etc.). Well she did it and got a nice car--his reasoning? She got a full ride scholarship so he didn't need to pay for any college!
