Never taken an antibiotic

My wife is amazed that I have never taken an antibiotic. I've always thought that some Dr.'s prescribe an antibiotic every time you go to them for any ailment (my nieces and nephews are always taken something). My doctor and my kid's doctor only prescribe when necessary i.e. strep. Luckily I've never had any disease requiring them. Anyone else?

I rarely take antibiotics, just for the occasional UTI.

All of my doctors will only prescribe for a bacterial infection--which is what they are for. I very rarely take them nor does my children or hubby. I will not accept the prescription unless their is a diagnosis of bacterial infection.

You've been very lucky to never have need for them.

I used to get strep throat all the time- lots of antibiotics in my past. Had my tonsils out, no more strep!

It's hard to believe someone could go their whole life and NEVER have an antibiotic- or never NEED one- Good for you!

Reminds me of a guy I used to work with who said he had never had a headache!!

We only use them when necessary, but ear infections, strep throat, and the occasional UTI do require such medicine. And thank goodness for it, because before the days of antibiotics, those things were potentially deadly.

I would probably be dead if it weren't for antibiotics. Between ear infections, strep, sinus infections, and an abcessed tooth I've spent more time than I can count on antibiotics. But all of these things require antibiotics, and the strep and the abcessed could have killed me.

I'd trade my migraines for an antibiotic any day.
