Just like the change jar concept, this doesn't increase the amount of money you have -- it just shifts it around to a different place. QUOTE]
This is how my DH feels and that's why we don't do it. He likes to track exactly where the money is going. If I get a $5 lunch allowance every day and only spend $4, the leftover $1 gets rolled over into the next day.
We prefer the "pay your vacation account first" method in which a certain amount is directed to an inconvenient credit union every pay day.
I do, however, keep a WDW popcorn bucket in my closet that I stash money in from rebates, coupons, bottle returns, etc.

If I know I'd use between 200 and 500 dollars in a year, I'd use savings and open a 3 month CD 4 times in a row instead. It's like "saving the dollars" AND getting another $100+ for doing so.
Why make a negative generalization? That's just one small example of why this board has such a negative rep on the DIS boards.
