Picture finalizing a VWL resale purchase in April, then immediately attempting to book anything there for 4-9 Dec. As you might expect, there was precious little available. There was a 1BR for the first night, nothing for the next two nights, then a 1BR for the last two nights. And the only rooms available for those two missing nights were at SSR so we took the plunge. Though split stays can be a slight hassle, being able to stay at a DVC resort during the holidays at all was a bonus, much less knowing that a few of those nights would be at the home resort. We were okay with that arrangement given the timing of finalizing the contract for VWL. That's how the situation stayed for several weeks, despite near daily calls from my associate or me. Besides, who wouldn't want six new mugs? ;) Naturally, we went on a waitlist. . .just in case.

The phone calls eventually ebbed to maybe twice a week with the same story: no room at the inn. Except one day, about two months ago, that all changed. Unexpectedly, there was an opening for a 2BR on the nights of the 5th and 6th at VWL--we jumped at it. Yes, it would still be a split stay, but at least it would be in-house (and let's not forget the mugs!). Once again, despite the renewed frequency of calls to MS, the situation remain unchanged. But, hey, it was a holiday trip to "home." We felt very lucky, indeed.

Until. . .until last week. Calling MS for a completely unrelated question, my associate, according to habit, inquired about the off-off-off-off-off chance that a 1BR might have opened up. The CM responded, "Actually, yes. Your waitlist came through--you now have a 1BR reservation for the 4th, a 1BR reservation for the 5th/6th, and yet another 1BR reservation for the 7th/8th." Holy schmoly. The holy grail had been attained! Within moments, the CM linked the three 1BR ressies together into one. . .no room changing, no living out of a suitcase for five nights, no storing bags and waiting for them to arrive three separate times, no higher math skills to divvy up the DxDP credits for each reservation, and almost sadly, no six free mugs. I know. . .it brings a tear to my eye, too. Those mugs would've had a good home; they'd have been happy, I just know it. . .

Is there a moral here? You betcha! I know it won't always work out for everyone searching for last-minute ressies, but sometimes, dreams (or mere wishes in this case) do come true.
NEVER GIVE UP. . .NEVER SURRENDER!

. . .oh, and do a little dance, make a little love, get down tonight, get down tonight. . .:cool1:

Congratulations!

one question about that?? Six new mugs??

They had Three seperate reservation all on the DXDP.
You get a new plan and new mugs every time you switch reservations.
In July we could have had 12 ! We had to have a cash stay in between two point stays. 3 Res. times 4 people...

OP... CONGRATULATIONS! TRULY SOME DISNEY MAGIC! :cool1:
:rockband:

Oh sure, you get your dream vacation, while the rest of us are stuck with bad Cory Heart songs stuck in our heads.

Doesn't seen fair, does it ?

:)

Congratulations!!! You will love it. We visited last December for just a two night weekend vacation and VWL was beautiful. We stayed at BLT but took the boat over to see it and it was awesome!!

Have a great trip!!!!

That is AWESOME!!! Love the title of this thread. I'm still trying to get a studio at AKV for my mom for one night over the holidays, calling daily like you. I will never give up...NEVER surrender!:dance3:

I hope some of your pixie dust rubs off on me. I've been on a waitlist for BLT for a few nights of our trip -- so far we only have the first night at BLT with the rest of the week at AKV. I was hoping to stay a few more nights at BLT (Dec4-8) and am still sitting on the waitlist.

Still waiting.....and waiting.....and waiting.....:cool2:

I don't guess I realize how lucky we were when we got a split stay at Boardwalk Villas/Saratoga Springs at a little less than 7 months out - and then just a few weeks later our wait last came through for a 1br at BWV for our entire length of stay.

We are arriving the Saturday right after Thanksgiving and checking out on December 4th - so it looks like we are doubly lucky being around the holidays!

This will be our first stay at BWV - we don't own there, but we are definitely excited to stay there for the first time! We have wanted to stay there since we first bought DVC.

We can't wait for our keisters to go down the keister coaster!!! :lmao:

:) That's it..shake your grove thing, shake your grove thing, yeah, yeah!!:banana::banana::banana:

Congrats! I didn't think of Corey Heart, I thought of Galaxy Quest and "the Historical Documents". :confused3

I did use up quite a bit, but here's to hoping there's a little more floating around for you. ;)

KeepSwimmingDory: So I've been told. . .lol Can't wait!

Disneywedding2010: Thanks!

ToddyLu: That IS a funny movie, and the remote Disney tie-in I was using is that Tim Allen plays the main character (and, of course, voices Buzz Lightyear in the Toy Story films). Being a huge Star Trek fan, I found Galaxy Quest to be an uproarious homage to all the key elements in the ST series and movies, down to the torn shirt and alien "babes." ;)

We were in a very similar situation as the OP--almost identical, in fact.

We finalized our VWL resale purchase this past April as well, and decided to try to get a reservation for the week between Christmas and New Year's (because we are limited to school breaks). We actually made the reservation request the moment our points were loaded into our account.

We got our first night, wait-listed the next three nights, and got the last three nights in a studio. (We kept being offered a 1BR--but didn't want to spend that many points.)

We did not want to give up that first night, and were resigning ourselves to have to move twice in a week, but after six weeks on the wait list, actually right when the 7-month window opened up, our wait list came through. We now have 6 nights in a studio with no moves required. :thumbsup2

We can't wait! Boy, it's going to be crowded, though. I'm trying to get my family in the mindset of actually making it for rope drop this visit.

Congrats! Though I don't know how many you have in your family, I'll admit the studio might be a tight squeeze. I do love 1 and 2 BRs but, obviously, they do cost more points. No matter, we're both getting to stay where we wish when we wanted. . .sort of an early Christmas present, no?

Sorry if I was not clear. The room is going to be fine for us. I'm concerned about the crowds in the parks for the week between Christmas and New Year's. The crowd calendars have every day that week as a solid "10." :scared1:

While we expect this, we've never actually dealt with these kinds of crowds before.

Ahhh, then may the force be with you. . .lol
